I wouldnt consider that smug, I'd consider it childish from someone with a brain the size of a pea. Between him and Charlie, they'd be lucky to have 1/4 of a functioning brain between them.

You dont find what Dangerfield said about going to Charlie's bathhouse smug/arrogant and he comes across as having half a brain. Smith was just adding more fuel to the fire to ruffle feathers as Dangerfield did.

Don't assume that the "A" grader we are chasing will come from the club Charlie goes to. So many scenario's to play out and Cats wouldn't throw hat into ring unless they think they can believe they can get it done

This has been months in the planning and we need numerous picks for F/S, Academies and other traded players like Khamis, Cheeser, Reidy, Florent and a couple more.

Flanders is a no. We won't even offer him a contract

Deep down we know the Charlie deal could unlock numerous options for us. As an example could help us get Walker next year along with Top 3 pick this year and a couple of good role players. Not to mention room in SC to go after Free Agents over next few years

Told by so many people at weekend that Charlie has made it clear he doesn't want to go back.

Wright is looking at this as a 2 year list balancing exercise with most done this year. He rates our youth especially with Jagga, Dean, Ison and Walker being added. Middle tier is his biggest focus

I'm not sure we can get an A grader and an early 1st rounder, plus enough points for Walker and others. Not off the back of a Curnow trade anyway.

The only way I see it happening is a trade for 2 first rounders and an A rated player, which seems impossible. Trade a first and TDK compo for Pick 2 and Chesser, but the first needs to be a decent one, not end of first for West Coast to agree.

We will need 2 firsts to pay for Walker next year, so that's all currency spent.

The SOS compo should go close to paying for Dean.

Brisbane's second for Khamis. A future 2nd for Florent. Whatever for Reidy.

To achieve what we are saying here, I feel we may need to trade our 2027 1st rounder as well.

Fitness staff mishandling his injuries. Wright coming in and letting the players know the gravy train is over. I just don't see what Voss could have done considering how easy he has been on Charlie, even when his standards dropped.

The last one is the fans. We called out a lot of conditional stuff last season.

Charlie may become a journey man if that influences his decision - all clubs have those supporters

Port will be able to match a bid next year, so we would have to trade for him anyway. A couple of south Australians high up in the draft this year means they may want first round picks this year as adequate compensation

from what i've heard he's basically been told no more special status - that's pretty well fourth hand fwiw

for someone who has always been more of a vibes player, can run all day put has a very active social life at night this might also be a part of the problem.

His talent and personality has made him face of our marketing and what i've heard he's been allowed to pick and choose in ways that aren't an option for less talented players.

As much as I don't like him, I think we are reading too much into Mackie's comments. Seems Charlie approached Geelong first. They aren't going to outright reject him. I think they know doing a deal is next to impossible unless the situation becomes untenable. Smart of them to keep the door open but not make any commitments.

IMO, think it’s a combo of his business partner in BS friendship and the freedom he’s allowed down at Kardinia Park, coupled with his promotion to the leadership group that he could not buy-in on and more onus on his investment into football / club first. Hoping at the latter part of the year he got a serious rev up on his application and attitude.
Don’t put aside he’s in a relationship now and different strings may be being pulled.
