And fair enough too. If he gets a run at it he will be a star. With Gunston another year older he is a must keep. (even though Gunston is seemingly getting better with age)
Lewis will already be 27 in a couple of weeks, he's just an injury prone forward.

Trades that are good player for good player.

Whens it happened?
  • Dees trade Jesse Hogan to Fremantle
  • Gold Coast traded Steven May to Melbourne
  • Fremantle traded pick 6 to Gold Coast.

So Melbourne traded young up and coming player Jesse Hogan (kicked 48 goals in 20 games that season) and got older veteran never been an All Australian previously Steven May in return.

May became a hugely important piece in Melbourne winning a premiership, just like the crows want Petracca for.

Why would they need to change his contract at all? Smells like bullshit to me.

Unless they are adding cash or years, the terms would be as-is you would imagine.

could alter the terms to spread the money per season differently while keeping the total the same.

There’s only one logical conclusion here based on

Fact 1: Dees supposedly want to do a salary dump
Fact 2: Crowd don’t want to give up much collateral

Logical conclusion here is that we rename this thread to the Clayton Oliver thread.

Got any examples where you're not combining separate trades?

Why does it matter that they were separate trades 8 minutes apart?

Melbourne traded Jesse Hogan to acquire Steven May.

Hogan is better than Rachele, Petracca while 2 years older than May at the time is better than May.

Disagree, Petracca in a down year recovery from injury had a better season than Rachele. Adelaide are getting the upgrade.

If you want something from Melbourne you got to give something Melbourne wants. If you thinks overs then move on to another player to trade for.
You mean rachele who misses multiple games too injury twice this year 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hogan requested a trade - you didn't forcibly move him on to bring in May. May was also 26, not 30.

Oh thanks for pointing this out.

My value for Rachele was without considering his injuries this past year. Something that should be taken into account.

Incorrect. Melbourne wanted May and told Hogan we will trade you to Perth if you want (to get the picks to acquire May). Melbourne pushed the agenda.

Melbourne couldn’t get May unless Hogan wanted to leave. Melbourne had to wait on Hogan to say yes, trade me to Fremantle before Melbourne could get May

Because it’s exactly the point. It wasn’t a gun player for a gun player.

It was a trade for draft picks. As it always is. Melbourne then turned around and traded those draft picks to a different club for a player they wanted as a separate trade that has nothing to do with Fremantle.

Crows will trade 1 or 2 first round draft picks. Melbourne can then go and use it trade in another player if they want or take it to the draft.

PlayStation trades don’t work because a player like Rachele isn’t going to suddenly want to go to a team that’s looking at a rebuild in another city off 1 weeks notice to help a trade go through.

It’s draft picks and maybe fringe players that will move because they’re looking for opportunities.

The days of ‘going shopping’ through another clubs list because a player is going there doesn’t happen in the real world.

So whats the other examples of trades you havent had to mesh together?

No, Melbourne had to satisfy Gold Coast who wanted picks.

To get what Gold Coast wanted Melbourne had to trade players to get those picks.

Melbourne didn’t trade Hogan to the Gold Coast and tell them go look for your picks.

Now Adelaide have to satisfy Melbourne who want players not picks. Melbourne don’t want to trade Petracca unless they are satisfied. Picks and fringe players isn’t it.

How many examples do you need?

Melbourne have said they want players, Melbourne themselves have traded a young good player to acquire the player they want.

When Adelaide wanted 2 first round picks for Jake Lever and no one thought he was worth that and was going to be dragged out all trade week, Melbourne came the party and traded 2 first round picks in the first deal of trade week.

When you target someone, you need to satisfy the other club, not just the scraps you’ve got.

You can't trade players who don't want to be traded. If you offered a player $1.7M at 4 years and he decide to be traded then he will be part of the trade otherwise it will be done with picks like other trade of contracted and uncontracted players. Doubtful it will only be pick 14 though.

Now on his way to GC.

Spicing up now. Anyone on the GC can you confirm there are petitions to sign Trac up there too?

Bit simple minded to think it’s that black and white.

Good thing they are both contracted, so we can call the shots.
That's what it looks like from the outside, probably Oliver was chosen as he doesn't even have any trade value. It was either Oliver or Petracca staying.
