Maybe wishful thinking on my behalf, but would Mihocek have second thoughts heading to Melbourne ?

Looks like they're heading for a rebuild and most of their stars are departing en masse.
I think he’d be leaving for money & more years. He must know already that he’d be giving up the chance of playing finals

Say to see Mihocek go but can't begrudge the guy prioritising money in what will be the last contract of his career, given he started late and probably was never paid big bucks.
He also feels like one of the 30 somethings that we almost must start loosing in order to rejuvenate the list.

Let them match it. If he'd prefer to leave, that's his choice.

You dont understand the free agency model, do you? He doesnt get a choice if they match. That's the difference between restricted and unrestricted. If Port matches he has to stay.

For the money he'd be a risk worth taking IMO, IF his off field issues are not insurmountable. Doesn't matter if he's past his prime, doesn't get brownlow votes etc. But it does sound from all the commentary that the IF is a big IF

I also wouldn't be taking both Oliver and May.
all these bolded if's and increased fonts is bringing back memories of the old Dave the man days 😁

Trying to turn around their culture, I assume he would appreciate.

Long v Oliver in 2025. It's a no brainer. Oliver would do better in our strong culture and environment. He's 28 so has minimum 4 good years in him. Dees can pay part of the salary. His job is to feed the Daicos boys.

Hard to argue against those stats.
And this in a year that people are saying he was no good. Imagine the upside.

If port matches, it just forces a trade.
Depends where they are next year. A compo pick could be better than two late 1sts.
If he is set against going home, I dont think they'll stand in his way.. They'll just make it hard if they want to put their foot down and force a trade like GWS for Cameron

Yeah I do understand it.

If a RFA who wants to leave, a matched offer from their original club creates an extra step in the process, requiring further negotiation for a trade or a move into the draft to finalize the change of clubs.

You don't think there will be clubs trying to get Butters in 2027?

Why shouldn't we be one of them?

don't know what that means, but okay
sorry should've looked at start date Dave the Man was Tradedraft back in the day
and every time he wanted to make a point or yell at someone that's the way he'd post

2 seasons back Oliver played with a busted hand and a partially torn knee ligament for majority of the season. He couldn't even make a fist.

This year Dees started turning him into a defensive midfielder which obviously was phase 1 of moving on from him.

I don't believe for 1 second he is past his prime.

Been in a shit environment while battling some mental demons.

Even Petracca has been average in the Dees system.

He's an elite clearance player and we would be mad not to seriously enquire.

First of all, it's 2026, end of next year's season that people will come for him. Second of all, my initial point was he would cost x2 first rounders plus something else, that is super expensive when we are low on first round pick resources.

Would I take Butters, absolutely, is it realistic to think we will, no, we just won't have the picks or player other teams do, and we are already coming from a long way off.

Plus, Pendles, Steele, Howe, Crisp and others may be looking at retirement at the end of next year, so we may not be a finals destination team.

That's why I've said 2027 in all my comments 🥴

Who knows what picks/players may be up for discussion by then.

If you want to rule him out as never being obtainable, fine.

If Butters chooses us then a deal will be found.

When a player is a FA/or OOC, these deals get done one way or another. Even if its less than what they would prefer. So even if they force a trade, they would have to accept what you have. Or he goes into the draft, where he goes anywhere and someone gets him for nothing.

If he wants to come home, he's given 8 years of service, I think port would be reasonable. You couldn't have asked for much more than what he has given that club. You can also trade 2 years in advance.

I'm really hoping we might be finally be the team on the right end of a salary dump for once. If we look at the teams in contention that might appeal to Oliver:

Geelong: already committed to Worpel and Marshall and trying to make a play for Curnow.

Hawks: committed to Merrett

Adelaide: Petracca is priority number 1 and bringing in Ah Chee on a 5 year deal. If Suns win the Petracca signature, it will still be a big decision for Oliver to decide to move interstate.

Collingwood: Only committed to Buller so far with Cox, Mitchell and likely Mihocek on the way out. We don't have the trade collateral but probably don't need it to address a clear midfield need if Oliver is available.

Not sure he particularly cares about that. He's got a flag already, this is about better setting himself and his family up post-footy.
