Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Highly Valuable (Bottom 4 potential, very unlikely to top 8)

Middle of the Pack (Could finish anywhere between bottom 4 and top 4)

Challengers (chance at top 4, but have potential to finish outside the top 8)
GWS
Swans
Freo
Crows

Contenders (Probable top 4, unlikely to finish outside the top 8)
Hawks
Suns
Cats
Lions


Overall, I think the 'best value' is to be found in the "Challengers" section, as the picks won't be too expensive relative to others, but could end up being very strong picks. If, for example, we can get the Crows pick valued at 16/17/18, there is limited downside and a lot of upside. It goes without saying that the risk and value comes from a mismatch of how good we think a team will be next year, compared with how good they think they will be. This can be seen in Richmond's trade with North last year. I don't think North thought that they were giving up pick 2 in that trade.

The teams who I think will overrate themselves going into next year (and therefore the picks I would ideally like us to target from a value perspective) are Melbourne, Saints, Pies, Crows.

I can remember being at an under17/18 game alongside, let's say a coach and recruiter (both AFL) about 15 odd years ago. There was this kid playing who was not big, but he threw himself around, got in the face of opposition players, gave away free kicks and saluted the crowd when he stood on someone's head and then proceed to banana it from the boundary.

I saw him tackle someone high and hold the headlock for about 30 seconds, the crowd were into him big time! I saw him get up and smile at them, as if he was in a WWE wrestling match and annoying the crowd.

I distinctly remember having a chuckle and then the recruiter turned to us and said, 'what a flog, he would be an absolute nightmare for a coach and club culture'. The 'coach' then replied, 'I want him, he is going to be special. You've shown me 10 nice blokes, how do you think we will succeed if we have a team of altar boys (exact phrase), him and Jez will scare the shit out of the defenders and become leaders. The recruiter's response, 'we can trade him 3 years in, one of the Vic clubs will give us a pick for him'!
