Just something to think about but do Gold Coast even have enough open list spots for all the potential academy players?

Maybe that’s why names such as Ainsworth and Humphrey are now being mentioned along with Flanders and Rosas. Still they’ll be likely bringing in Petracca and the head case from the dogs.

We ain’t getting any GC academy players. They will get the picks they need 100%

They are going to need to cough up picks to get Petracca.

Unless they part ways with more than just Flanders there is a very good chance they won’t have enough after the Petracca transaction

Think now Flanders has nominated the Saints who put their first rounders on the table they get it done easily. Need Dees to drive a hard bargain

The Suns have enough points to match bids for Uwland and Patterson providing the pick they get for Flanders is enough to satisfy the Dees for Petracca, they will however go into a bit of deficit next year.

What is looking likely is that they wont have enough points to match Addinsal, Coulson or Collins.
why wouldnt the sons trade fiorini and flanders in swap for petracca thus keeping all there picks

Yeah so suns will get pick 7 there.

But dees are going to ask for that or 6 as a starting point you would think.

the picks all slide down one as well losing points value once wce compo comes in too.

If suns have to give up their first for Petracca, that will leave them with 3,590 including what they get for Flanders.

If the dees can get 13 or 16 as well…

As compo picks are added current draft picks slide back to fit them in.

Eagles started with pick 19 from the AFL, bit it has now become pick 21 due to TDK & Silvagni picks being added.
Yes, but it could still shuffle forward and backwards during the draft due to other clubs matching bids.
Does the points value of every single pick change as they move?

Dees aren’t getting 2 firsts for 30 year old Petracca.

Also Bombers/WCE/Norf are all eyeing GCs 1sts for their 15-30 picks. Points won’t be an issue.

I’m just waiting for them to trade a f1 in trade period then go into deficit for 2026 at the draft. Or is there some rule stopping them exploiting that loophole?

On Petracca it’s the what’s he worth to the suns piece though.

He is contracted too.

If suns think he is the difference between a semi and a prelim / gf, they will pay up and dees will know this and push hard I reckon.

On the deficit stuff, I think there is a limit on how much deficit you can go into?

Even if they do that they'll still be in deficit next year if they match bids on Uwland and Patterson at 2 & 4, thus missing out on the 4 or 5 other Academy kids.

If they pass on Patterson then they'll have the opportunity of picking up 2-3 of those Academy kids.

Lots of posters are in love with what Robey does, but I haven’t seen anyone analyse his weaknesses. Some might be upset here!

I watch all the Eastern games and I’ve been watching him since he started there. So here’s some things I’ve seen.
He is generally a very good kick even under pressure, occasionally doesn’t weight it perfectly, but generally sharp and penetrating. However, when not on the move he doesn’t show a side step or shimmy or fake to give himself an extra second to pick alternative or lateral options. You will see in the videos his kicks sometimes get smothered because opponents can see where he’s going. This happens multiple times, not a once off.
I love how as a big guy he goes in and gets his own ball, and through strength can get good clearances. However, regularly those clearances go to the teammate directly in front of him, sometimes not the best option and those players are immediately caught. He can do the long range handball to a runner, but he doesn’t have Lalor’s vision to select from a range of options, it is typically directly forward of where he’s looking. Sometimes a wide option is better and he doesn’t typically find that.
When he’s in space running, these things are not as obvious, but if you look for them you will see. There is a vision, decision making and lateral movement limitation there. These are more of an issue as a mid, less so wing or forward.

Having said that, everyone has limitations, so much of what he does is very impressive. Power, speed, clean hands, two sided kicking, goal kicking, spread, aerial and ground ball etc. He is still very young, hasn’t had a lot of time in the top development pathways and his scope for further improvement is scary. There’s probably lower risk picks, but I hope we do pick him with our first pick.

I think it used to be around 1200pts, but that's been pushed back to around 950pts IIRC

Ahh right nice, thanks heaps!

So essentially we need WCE to bid on someone at 1 to really tighten the screws and make this interesting.

yeah even GC is subject to some limits, I don't think they get Petracca all the kids, or they do, but will lose more than just Flanders

Ideally, but bids at 2 & 4 would see them with a deficit of 550pts and that's with them keeping all of their picks bar pick 6(7) used for Petracca.

Nope, I was a bit off, nonetheless it has been substantially reduced. Did a bit of digging around and found this in an AFL article.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Under the outgoing bidding system, clubs have had a points deficit limit at 1723 points, meaning they could only go that far into deficit to match bids. Any further and they would not be allowed to match a bid on a draftee.

The number was the equivalent of the total points attached to the group of picks assigned to the premiership team each year: No.18, 36, 54 and 72.

But with clubs heading into next year's model, they will have their new points deficit reduced to 1167 points, equal to pick 18 (836 points), 36 (317), 54 (14) and 72 (0) in the new model.

Yeah something has to give to fit them all doesn’t it.

Good observations, especially the handball to the nearest target thing. That sort of thing can be worked on, especially in preseason where the pressure is off and you do a lot of decision making work, especially the mids. The main thing is he has the hands to pick it up, the size to hold his own and the spread to give himself time, something our other mids like Hopper and Taranto don't have, although Hopper does have that lateral step that's pretty handy at times.

If you've watched him all year and you still want him that is a good sign, and a lot more of an educated punt than most of us on here, or maybe even the recruiters.
