Traded Jack Steele [Traded to Melbourne for 2027 R3 (Melb)]

Completely untrue. The contract is with the AFL and carries over from team to team unless it's specifically renegotiated.
The player also needs a proper incentive to leave a current club on the current contract. It's up to the new club to make it worth their while. Steele is within his rights to play out his contract with the Saints, so really the ball in St Kilda's court to find him a better offer/home.

It's more the player managers role to find a new club.

The player's inventive to leave is opportunity when they are no longer wanted.

Jack made it sound like he wanted to stay. Wherever he ends up, I'm sure he'll get some sort of sweetener out of it.

Clubs can't just bring in players when they expect to retain the same contracts. It's hypocrisy for them to expect players to play for less when they're the ones that offer up the contract.

lyon has treated this guy horribly imo. demanding he lose bulk in the 2022 offseason and then expecting him to keep taking the physical punishment of being an inside mid was some of the dumbest coaching ive seen.
I'm neither here nor there about Steele leaving, because he hasn't been great for a hot minute there, but you're definitely spot on with this.
He and Ross just never seemed to gel, which is weird, as you would have thought he'd be a prototypical Lyon player.

I think maybe Ross 2.0 is a bit different, and favours outside run players like Hill a bit more now. Whatever the case, he hasn't been great for Steele's career, which is a bit unfortunate.

I think a current captain has to publicly say he wants to stay.

But sounds like he's gone.

Eagles would be a good fit for both parties.

go west coast saints get liam ryan and mid 30 pick.

Not sure he would want to go to a club down on the ladder because his mentality seems to be that he has stuck with the saints through some difficult patches, but we may be on the up, so he is happy to prioritise results over midfield minutes. I can't see him going to WCE.

Adelaide might be a different story.

Culture killing by saints

Yeah we’ll throw money at crabs like tdk and silvagni but skipper you can play on a flank or **** off
The culture they had wasnt worth keeping alive

TDK/Silvagni got nothing to do with this move. Its Flanders coming in to take his spot.... which Flanders wouldnt be doing unless Steele moved out

Isnt he just going to have the same problem Laird had with speed in your setup which is why he got punted back to defense?
We arguably overcorrected by pushing both Laird AND Crouch out, we had no-one in finals to play that tough inside role, hence why Naicos/Newcombe were able to waltz the ball out of the middle so easily

I’d argue we probably need Laird in defence to help set up our most dangerous ball users, so a guy like Steele would help

I think the argument your Crowbro is trying to make is that Steele is not quick, and potentially not the guy to slide into the middle of the minor premiers midfield, to help carry the team to a flag, at this stage of his career.

He won’t carry a team to a flag, but he’s at least a showing of trying to help rectify our midfield problems a bit, an immediate upgrade on Berry

Would be a great fit for WC and an easy swap for Ryan but its a big move at this stage of his career. Understandable if he just doesn't want to come over

Doubt he goes to a contender. Too slow. Would be a terrible fit for a team like the Crows imo.

Maybe Bombers? Or he just stays
