Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

I'd argue this is even worse than the * off season I mean just look at this list

TDK
JSOS
Ryan
Flanders
Aleer

I've genuinely never seen a more uninspiring list of recruits in my life.

Mind you, they've lost their heart and soul skipper and one of the best ruckman in the game to boot.

Don't be fooled by them "being active".

If I was being unkind

TDK - inconsistent

JSOS - injury prone

Ryan - hasn't produced at a high level for years

Flanders - pushed out of GC mid. Downgrade on Steele

Aleer - all potential atm

It's all big swings IMO. If half of them don't work out I think it goes bottoms up

Jimmae, I'm with you, but in my honest opinion I'd take him comfortably over 2 kids in this draft.

He easily could and likely will be a damaging burst mid who can kick 30+ goals a season.

The Dusty comparison is accurate.
Dusty was only a burst mid very late in his career and while being a 95 kg ball of muscle, so that comparison is aiming a bit low aerobically given Humphrey won't be able to run through blokes the same way.

Probably not going to be a 30 disposal mid ever, really.

That kind of line drawing reminds me of when I compared LDU's ceiling pre-draft to a late career Judd, which is and was far more apt.

I'd only take Humphrey over a single top 15ish player in this draft, and I'd only start doing that at pick 8 onwards, but then you have to consider his contract weighing him down compared to the talent pool.

For all the sense of physicality and spectacular moments, the production just isn't there. He's already having knee issues from his style of play.

Interesting conversation this morning and SOS came up. The comment was, he’s learnt from drafting days that it’s impossible to build a list with a few top 10 picks over 3-4 years. Go after free agents and move on contracted players that you don’t want/need. Geelong and Swans the kings at this.

He tried to do a GWS with Carlton but he didn’t have enough picks to play with. He also wanted to trade out 2 of our top 5 players for picks/players but was shouted down!

There will be so many players looking to move when Tassie come in, plenty have their contracts expiring around then!
He had the picks, he just severely sucked at selecting the right draftee.

That & always wanting to return to the well with his previous selections for a trade..

I respect and understand where you're at with the club, but so far I'm the opposite, I'm more optimistic than I have been in years.

Next year definitely feels like a 1 step backwards to take 2 steps forward kinda year. We're weeding out the players who don't want to be here/are bad for culture, regardless of talent (TDK, JSOS, Lij, Charlie to a lesser extent) and are done 'playing nice'. We're setting standards and are holding people accountable to them.

We're losing a lot of talent, yes, but I think now is the time to hit the draft a.) before Tassie comes in, b.) whilst we have a lot of young talent coming through.

Let's pretend for a second that we make a pick before a Dean bid this year, and we don't make a first round pick next year due to matching Cody. For the 2027 season (ages away, I know) we'll have these names on our list who are 22 and under:

Lachie Cowan (23 by a month so I'm counting him)
Hudson O'Keefe
Cooper Lord
Ashton Moir
Billy Wilson
Matt Carroll
Jagga Smith
Harry O'Farrell
Ben Camporeale
Lucas Camporeale
Harry Dean
Jack Ison
First round pick this year
Cody Walker

That is a hell of a young core to build with, and we can either inject some quality youth into a strong team, or have a really solid head start on a rebuild despite Tassie cooking the draft for us, regardless of where we're at on field.

I can see the vision we're building towards, as it is clear that what we did in 2023 won't work anymore, and I like that we've acknowledged that rather than digging our heels in (by trading for Houston last year, for example).

Like I said, I can fully understand if someone is to be doom and gloom about our situation, as we have underachieved with a quality list and are losing a lot of talent in one off-season, but I'm super optimistic about the future.
You can keep Cowan in your list without qualification. He's 22 for the whole 2027 season.

Who cares about '26 finals.
I'm getting the vibe that next years target will be to finish above Saints.

You know we will be playing them early next season.

AFL loves to book players against their old team early in the year

So I guess with GC focusing on Petracca and JUH and Marshall being Geelong's focus, the only options for Cur ow now are stay or go to Sydney.
How things change in the space of a few days.

I'm still liking the idea of 2 x 1sts and either Florent or Hayward, now that he's said he'd be open to a move. Need to make something happen before all the options dry up.

We really don't...

If those clubs prioritise trades other than Curnow, we keep him and tell him to give some serious thought to why those clubs weren't moving heaven and earth to bring in a dual-Coleman medallist.

Even if he wants to reload and try again end of next year, he'll need to put in a big 2026 to ensure clubs are prepared to make serious offers.

Humphrey is probably more like Petracca or De Goey.

Unsure if he will have the tank for more than bursts in the middle.

Absolute cracker of a player
De Goey's midfield minutes maybe, but he doesn't have the size or pedigree of either. Burns team mates pretty often by comparison.

A lot needs to change about how he is able to play the game.

They suns are going sll
Out to try and win a flag. All
I see is Trac and JUH coming in whilst losing Flanders,Ainsworth, fiorini , budarik, Rosa’s Jr and maybe Humphrey.

Does not look all out to me. It looks worse IMO. Surley they are chasing Curnow. Surley.
Only way Bailey comes to us is if curnow goes to suns

If the deal looks anything like that, I want something other than just 2 and Chesser back, especially if we're sending off Acres, because we could use him ahead of some of our forward options we seem happy to fill the bench with.

I've seen this valuation of Humphrey for a few hours now, and if the club is reading this, I want to be very clear: **** that.

Do not make that deal, do not even entertain it. There is no valuation of Humphrey where that makes any sense. He would have to transform into a star midfielder for that to make sense.

That deal is horrifically bad for the future of this football club and helps neither Voss nor any reboot or rebuild.
Humphrey not worth a first round pick?

They can’t play the Carlton v saints game late / too late in the season because JSOS will probably be injured by then. Hahaha
Too soon?
Can't go too early either because his pre-season injury will keep him out

Humphrey not worth a first round pick?
What I'm writing here is I would put his peak at pick 7 in this draft, but probably have him sitting roughly at the TDK pick in a trade.

Gold Coast reached for him a little back in the day because his floor was higher than many in his range, and my evaluation of that hasn't changed. Now that was a weak draft...
