Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

If GC are confident they are getting Petracca, then I imagine what they need is draft picks in a trade Humphrey.

Curnow to Sydney; Hayward, Florent, pick 9 and Future 1st to Carlton

Then use an assortment of pick for Humphrey.

Preferably pick 9 and 19, but can resort to 9 and TDK compo if we need to elevate our bid from Melbourne’s. If 9 and TDK compo are used, I would expect a pick around 30 to come back our way to assist with Harry Dean bid.

2026 picks should be off the table. Our own F1, Sydney’s F1, and our F2 should be enough ammunition to get Cody across the line.

In a roundabout way, Curnow for Humphrey, Hayward and Florent would be a pretty solid outcome.

I dont think it does that. Sydney won't ramp up talks unless Charlie choses them. Geelong being in the hunt puts that on hold.

We can't send him to Sydney just because they're offering the best deal. Their offer is irrelevant unless Charlie chooses them.
Player will nominate the destination club if it can get done.

Sydney throwing up chaff isn’t endearing us to trade for a contracted player (hence no nomination) who will be back at pre-season without a more than compelling offer. Charlie is a required Carlton player unless he wants out with the destination club and his management working to our benefit.

Merrett hasn’t made a declaration either due to the same circumstances.
All in the background..

People are absolutely kidding themselves if they think Geelong are trading their back-to-back best and fairest on their grand final team.

I'm not saying that Curnow's not worth that much but... that ain't happening.

They can get it done by helping us get a major trade done with a third team.

Otherwise, unlikely.

i just dont see how they have the assets for this either?

Some of their younger players will be disillusioned by the influx of high paying mercenaries and the fact the club boned the captain. That really shows loyalty to the playing group right there.

They'll be wondering where their's is when it's their turn that's for damn sure.

I believe they banked a lot of cap. I believe they've refused to give the uptick moving forward. But the money they've spent this year accounts for the overwhelming majority of it.

They've spent like kids in a toy store knowing they have Christmas money. Instead of managing it long-term they've spent it all at once

Next week the fun and games begin, most clubs footy formalities are completed, so full on focus will be on team upgrading.
Good luck Baggers, Should we decide to cut Curnow free, I’d be very happy with Humphrey and Florent and assorted picks to assist to snare Charlie Dean and Cody Walker.
Don’t think we’ll get Charlie Dean, a bit undersized as a KPD.

Bit late to the party, gang.

Pick #19 for Jack.

Reckon we made out like bandits.👍

Imagine that's what we use to get Dean or thereabouts.

An injury prone father-son taken in the 50s out for a fresh one ranked in or about the top ten in the draft.

Bandits indeed.

Suspect a rumour or two may drop between now and 7pm tomorrow night. No idea what but feels like the club has been saving something for the B&F

Really like the aggressive intent from GC, even Adelaide, Geelong and other teams who are actually going chips in for a flag tilt.

Same as the Pies at the end of last year.

It once again shows to me how badly we stuffed up, that after 2023 and 2024 we added stuff all and had no scope to do what other clubs seem to be able to

While I get why Charlie wants Geelong, I’m a bit more confused on why they want Charlie. Yes, I know how good he is and when a player that good wants to come to your club, you don’t say no. Yes, I get the Jeremy Cameron isn’t a spring chicken. Yes, I know that Hawkins retired last year…

But I’m not sure a Charlie, Cameron, Neale forward line works. Neale already kicked 44 goals this season and he’s just going to get better. Maybe I’m naive, but I don’t think they lost the grand final due to not having a third key tall.

If Charlie was a free agent, I could see it - he will partner Cameron for a few years as Neale develops as the third, and then he and Neale play for another 6 years. But the cost to bring him in via trade will surely make them lose some very good players, and I just can’t see many wanting to leave Geelong unless it’s to head home inter state. Maybe it’s a TDK Marshall situation and they are happy to push Neale out - but again, he’s not a free agent, so they aren’t pushing Neale out for a draft pick, he would have to be part of the deal.

Oh well - going to be fascinating to see how it plays out…

They have the assets (Holmes, Dempsey, Neale, O’Sullivan, SDK, Miers, Humphries) but they don’t look like they’d be open to using them for a trade.
I would hazard a guess none of them want to move to Carlton. Their first pick this year blows out to about pick 25. And it appears that SOS is asking for two firsts for Marshall.

If they're handing off their first round pick for Marshall, then they definitely don't have the draft assets to get Charlie unless they offload a bunch of second tier players. And we won't be accepting second tier players from them.

No team wants to lose talent just to get talent. That’s the issue, they will trade draft picks and depth players but everyone wants to get better 18, else why trade one in to lose another.
That’s why we can’t cave and must keep Charlie unless we get a Kennedy, pick 3 /20 deal. Else we really haven’t moved forward and will always be everyone’s favourite trade partner.

Probably been stated but getting Flanders and using pick 7 on him also takes them out of the bidding for Harry Dean scheme which was always a chance (spite). Bulldogs at 12 might be the first genuine bidders.
