Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

GW and CD have come out and siad they're happy with where the contract discussion is at with Walshy.

I suspect that they'll wait until trade period and the draft is over so they can finalise cap space. That's my theory.

Of course, the media are frothing at Walshy because his FA is coming up and they love a capitulating Carlton list.
Walshy's Manager Scott Lucas said the same on SEN this morning ie: Walshy happy & they're all comfortable where it all sits

That will never be the starting point. Ever.
No, we won’t ask for Gulden because they just won’t do it as you don’t trade for a gun with a gun but the opening line should be
What would you want in a hypothetical trade for Gulden? That’s the level of compensation we expect for Charlie with 4 years left on his contract.
So unless you present something serious in that ballpark the we are wasting each others time

Come on guys
Do you really think we’re in a spot to land a ‘big fish’ ?
I’d rather fill the needs of the team this off season, actually follow through with the ‘no bs’ culture throughout the pre season and into next year and beyond, and then go for the big free agents along with Cody next year.
We should have plenty of cap space, multiple first round picks and our most desperate need is quick midfielders. Forwards and backs don't function without run and carry and the pressure that quicker talented mids bring.

Opposition's biggest weapon the last few seasons against us is to shut down Walsh because he's our only quick mid. Takes opposition teams biggest weapon against us off them.

Butters, Smith, Walsh, Cripps and Co puts us firmly inside the 8 next year.

Add Walker and some quality forwards and we become contenders in 2027 onwards.

Sam Walsh to be our captain in 2026.

Love love love this if true.

Walshy has a ruthlessness to him that Crippa seems to lack. One of the first things people mention is how much he hates losing. Always has. He strikes me as someone who can raise and maintain standards, give guys a clip when they neet it, and still bring them along with him.

Crippa has been carrying this team for years. He deserves to be able to focus on his individual game for the last 3-4 years of his career without all the crap that comes with captaining a team like Carlton.

Hayward, Florent and two 1st is absolutely in the ball park of a fair deal IMO.

I think we're treading water this off season. Pushing some assets to next year to hopefully be in a better spot to attract better players.

We aren't an attractive spot for a player to move to atm, think we have to turn the perception around next season and go for it then.

Get the depth this year, quality next.

Sydney taking the piss and saying Hayward not going anywhere so Gulden it is.

I wouldn't read into it. Clubs have to be careful with how they discuss players who haven't requested a trade. Saying he's contracted and required for now is the right thing to do. They probably move on that if negotiations get serious.

Swans ruling out Heyward:
"Will Hayward is contracted for four more years, and he will see out that contract. There is not much in those rumours to be honest,"

But barrett pretty confident about CC going to the swans:
"Charlie Curnow, I believe, will be a Swans player by the end of this trade period."

Lol Barrett... this after tweeting yesterday that Geelong "always find a way to get it done"

True, and I don't think any club would turn down the opportunity to get Butters.

But one of our big issues for a while now has been that we're incredibly reliant on big games from our big names. We've got a lot of players whose "role" is to scratch around getting 10-15 touches and doing **** all with them, while we wait for Cripps, Hewett and Walsh to get their 30 possies, and Curnow and McKay to kick 8 between them.

I think we probably stand to benefit more from finding more of those quick mids and flankers who can get 20 disposals a game, with guys like Cripps and Walsh and Jagga being used to feed the others. Spreading the load makes us a lot less vulnerable to injuries and form fluctuations for "key" players.

Need to bring Cowan and Carroll and Wilson into the game off half back, need to bring Cerra and Chesser and Hollands into the game between the arcs, and need to bring Moir and Williams and Kemp and (Hayward?) into the game up forward.

18-25 touches for the half backs, 20+ touches for the outside mids, 15-20 touches for the high forwards. That's how we improve organically - not spending multiple first round picks on one "gun" player while players 8 through 23 are just occupying space.

Very fair IMO!
For a guy who doesn’t chase or pressure at ground level, has shown signs of being undisciplined & petulant and can be very erratic kicking for goal in big moments or big games, is nearing 30 and has injury history………

In saying that would also love to have him back fully invested, in good form whilst adding some bits & pieces with a renewed focus on team/club culture as well as team first footy/effort.

Good trade for reiddy.

Happy that Walsh will be taking captaincy-

Given Cripps was reported a couple of weeks ago as saying Walsh was about 2 years from being ready to take on captaincy, does that suggest he is being pushed out of the position?

nek minnit freo comes calling… 😜

Bring him in

"Among his standout games this season was a best afield performance in national colours, against Carlton’s reserves" (from his draft profile: https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/jake-rogers/)

Ticks all the necessary boxes then.

Seriously though - would take this guy over Ainsworth in a heartbeat. Cost would be an interesting discussion though. Taken at Pick 14 couple of years ago, but hasn't really done much at AFL level yet - he's still in the "potential" barrel.

I'd do something like 21 (JSOS compo) for Rogers and 35. Then 35 could go to WC for Chesser.
