Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Oliver to Collingwood would be a shrewd bit of business. Reckon he goes back to his best next year and leave several clubs scratching their heads about a lost opportunity (including us, imo - Cripps can't live forever as an inside midfield and our mature stocks are thin - Hewett and who else? Not Cerra and Walsh).

Pies have flown up to Sydney to meet him but can’t get hold of him.

I saw and listened to Clarry on a recent horse racing podcast. He looked horrendous for an elite AFL player and sounded like his lifestyle is still in fullswing. Sounded like he has learned nothing about changing. And a new look Melbourne's actions strongly indicate they feel that way too.

Club in recent days pitched an offer to Steele Sidebottom to see if he would be interested in a player + coaching role from 2026 onwards. Unlikely to happen but an example of some of the smart wheeling that GW is doing in the background.

Love it. Would really benefit the team to bring in solid proven leadership, whether it’s Sidebottom or similar. I have really strong doubts about our current player leadership capabilities.

Ok with a coaching role but a playing role? that would be a terrible idea. Let Pies deal with his ageing out not us.

Can we plug him into the matrix... and then load the Steele Sidebottom program into all of the Carlton players' minds?

Interesting

My source is very close to Butters best friend - all he has told me is that Zak is almost certain to follow Ken
Almost certain
Slightly dead
Just about a sure thing
All but done
Next to perfect
As good as ours
More or less agreed
Practically sorted
Virtually locked in

Shoot me now…

He is contracted for next year.

We asked about him joining after next year? He would be 36yo....

Not a good idea for Carlton to recruit players that are loyal to coaches...

... it could be a very short-term attachment here ;)

Nah, he's still better than any of our dedicated wingers.

A managed season with him working with Jagga, Ollie, Chesser and El Campo would be perfect. 15-ish games, transition into a transition/ball movement coaching role.

I hate to say this but De Grey would be a player I would chase. Kicks goals, adds mongrel and could pinch hit through the middle to take pressure off Cripps and Walsh.

TA
Would be wonderful for the 3 games you get him fully fit each year.

We've just started to move off of those who are perpetually injured/have low training standard, not super keen to be adding them back IMO.

Also probably not the guy you want at the club when you're trying to perform a cultural reset.

Wouldn’t touch him personally, going off what I was told as of a month or two ago he was still a long way off someone I’d want us bringing in

Not a position of need. You have Cripps, Hewett, Cooper Lord and Ben Camporeale so we are covered there now and for the future. I suspect that Cooper Lord will be a better player in 2026 than Oliver, despite not getting paid $1.4 mill (yes Melbourne will be paying a fair bit) and without bringing the same amount of baggage. Surely he goes to GWS.

Correct

2027 is two years ahead

this is the first year clubs have been able to trade two years out

Or is your question aroudn the ability to trade this year, next year and the year after first round picks as part of one trade?
The question I have is whether the AFL would approve a trade that involved Geelong's 2025, 2026 and 2027 first round picks.

AFL 'rules' of course specify that clubs are to use 2 first round picks over a rolling 4 year period. Cats used their 2024 first rounder on Smith, which means they would have used zero first round picks over the 4 year period from 2024 to 2027.

We know the AFL can approve exceptions and Geelong are their love child. And I could understand/accept them approving 1 pick over 4 years, but surely they couldn't approve a club using no first round picks over 4 years unless they trade another one in.
