Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

The question I have is whether the AFL would approve a trade that involved Geelong's 2025, 2026 and 2027 first round picks.

AFL 'rules' of course specify that clubs are to use 2 first round picks over a rolling 4 year period. Cats used their 2024 first rounder on Smith, which means they would have used zero first round picks over the 4 year period from 2024 to 2027.

We know the AFL can approve exceptions and Geelong are their love child. And I could understand/accept them approving 1 pick over 4 years, but surely they couldn't approve a club using no first round picks over 4 years unless they trade another one in.
They say rule but it's only a guide. The AFL just don't want teams being stupid then having to ask for priority picks to get back. They'd never enforce it in a club like Geelong's case.

We know the AFL has rules and 'rules'. Like the rule where clubs can't trade out a future 1st unless they have a future 2nd and 3rd. Last year we had to trade in Brisbane's future 2nd to allow us to trade our own picks for Jagga.

Should we have just asked the AFL for an exemption because we weren't being stupid? I recall Port asking for an exemption when they were attempting to broker a deal for JHF a few years back but were knocked back.

The AFL just pick and choose who and when they grant exemptions. For mine, they should just get rid of these rules and let the clubs manage their own lists without the AFL interfering. And get rid of priority picks while they're at it when clubs make bad decisions. We know the AFL don't like clubs sitting at the bottom end of the ladder for extended periods, but there's better ways to assist these clubs without granting them additional draft picks which then in turn penalise the other 17 clubs.

Rant over and it's time for a cup of tea and a bex.

don't believe everything you read especially from me as all I do is talk shit but I trust this guy

Gotta Say Brisbane must have an absolutely elite list management team. With Oscar Allen attracting first round compensation surely that values him at around $1 mill a year. I am aware they have lost Ah Chee and Starcevich but with that list it must be a very near run thing both now and into the future.

Trees will definitely be getting shaken around Bailey, the Ashcrofts and around the edges very soon.

Wouldn’t touch him personally, going off what I was told as of a month or two ago he was still a long way off someone I’d want us bringing in
Agreed. The Dees gave him many opportunities to set the good ship Clayton Oliver bsck on course and have now cut their losses. There is always a possibility that a move to a new environment can jolt him back but I wouldn't bet on it. Its a risk some clubs might take but not for us at this juncture.

Ess have Bailey in their sights and are prepared to make him an offer he can't refuse...

It will be who else gets shaken out that will be of interest - cant see the ashcrofts fletcher or raynor being moved on

Zac Bailey will go for $$$ and I guess fair enough - already won two premierships so why not cash in and set your life up

Club in recent days pitched an offer to Steele Sidebottom to see if he would be interested in a player + coaching role from 2026 onwards. Unlikely to happen but an example of some of the smart wheeling that GW is doing in the background.
Should be Pendlebury or both. and skipworth
GW does a SOS

I could see one of the Ashcroft's being shaken out. Both looking to play very similar roles. Perfect for Tassies timeline.
