Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

Is this the biggest trade period in a long time?

Just names that might move or want to

Petracca
Oliver
Curnow
Butters
Merrett
Simpkin
Marshall
Ah Chee
Starcevich
De Koning
Silvagni
Flanders
Humphrey
Ugle-Hagan
Steele
Worpel
McVee
Spargo

It's a lot. No wonder these early trades are going on. They need to get through the business to try and get the big deals done

The AFL just gave WC a PP which they then allowed them to trade to Brisbane in order to make sure both clubs were compensated for the loss of their free agents.

If you were dumb and tried offering a 1st rounder for a 2s player, then yes id agree with you, but overpaying elsewhere wont get you in any trouble.

Are you forgetting we're Carlton? Different rules for us mate...

Not a fan at all but when Rosas goes for a pick around mid 50's and Spargo for 41, then I expect nothing of similar.
Are you saying those guys are better than Baku or worse? The count has scored more goals the past two seasons than Spargo has in the last 3.

Who knows if there’s anything coming back with Buku

Gotta Say Brisbane must have an absolutely elite list management team. With Oscar Allen attracting first round compensation surely that values him at around $1 mill a year. I am aware they have lost Ah Chee and Starcevich but with that list it must be a very near run thing both now and into the future.

Trees will definitely be getting shaken around Bailey, the Ashcrofts and around the edges very soon.

The Ashcroft's? 0% chance i'd say.

Honestly Butters is a gun, there is simply no argument there. But. In order to get him you need a few things.

-You need to know that all your pieces are in place and you are ready to push through the last hurdle to achieve a premiership.
-You will need $2 mill a year or the best part thereof to satisfy him.
-You will give up 3 years of your draft plus a quality player to satisfy Port, cause you better believe they will match any offer.

I simply cannot see us matching that profile and would rather we say "Love you mate but it is not a great fit for us right now".
He is 25 and one of the best mids in the comp we have a top 10 pick coming in this year (dean) and potentially a number 1 next year (walker) and a number 3 pick (jagga) from last year, we will not be giving up 3 years of draft, we also dont need draft picks for curnow we had 3 rising star nominations this year, we need all the elite talent we can get, if we got butters it would actually change the whole dynamic of our midfield, would probably give cripps a extra 3 years of football, yes we would lose curnow but a makeshift forward line around mckay hok kemp and could have cripps down there aswell would still work just fine

All sounds great!

Now tell us:

  • How do we satisfy Port in a trade?
  • How do we tell Sam Walsh that we're giving Butters $2M+ / season but not him?

Also, that "makeshift" forward line you mentioned needs a lot of work to be "just fine" ...

Fair comment and you are are 100% entitled to that opinion, I am no more a seer that the next man.

My view is that we do have some elite "now" and some potentially elite "soon", but I don't believe we have the toolbox yet to form a genuine contender in a sustainable way. Going after Butters would give us all a buzz and we would improve because of him. I don't think in our current guise that is enough to win it all.

I like what the team seems to be doing at the moment. Not big swings but value acquisitions to improve depth and competition. Once you have a deep 25-33 you can take the big swings.

Again, just my view and I fully respect those that see things a different way.

Haven’t seen many mention it but, band 4 for Worpel smells like a turd. I struggle to believe in a world where St Kilda are offering a small fortune to anyone with an eye on an exit, wouldn’t have offered him a much better offer.

Band 4 would be average wage type of offer, i dont buy it.

If anyone wants to get anyone out of the Lions, its not going to be the big names, it will be players like Starcevich who get offered overs.

Where are you getting 2 mil from, dogs have apprently offered him 1.6, Collingwood would not be able to give 2 mill and neither would geelong and hawthorn.
That forward line would be more then enough in the tall department might even still be able to get the 3 first rounders and still add Hayward from Sydney, and tbh I think the players would be rapt by all reports the drama going on at the club is we didnt bring in a A grade player last year, imaging the players if we lose curnow and dont bring in a gun to replace him, if im walsh your looking at the team with absolute no hope and leaving for that reason

I agree with this but there's a caveat, Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer, Judd. How did that work out for us?

Yeah the charlie on one ankle that had great service because we move the ball so quick, yeah Khamis must be awesome, that's why everyone is after him lol, lmao even

I didn't say he was awesome. You said he should be delisted. I disagree with that and pointed to recent example as to why.
