Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

I get that, but if I'm Sam Walsh, I'm getting big offers from multiple clubs...

Then I see Carlton giving someone else a massive offer...

And coming to me with a lot less (because we need to take less for success)

But you want me to be the captain...

I'm thinking, well **** you... I've given my all since I got here, and other clubs clearly value me more...

It's def a risk when it comes to getting Butters... are we willing to accept that?

I personally think the Captain should be the teams highest paid player.

I think it depends on who that player is - Tom Harley at the Cats or Nick Maxwell at the Pies (or Richie Vanderburg at Hawthorn) were great captains but arguably not in their best half dozen players. Walsh is a funny one, he could be our best but injuries/form mean he is quite a way off it.

If Walsh leaves it will because he reckons his fellow players are rubbish. If I am a younger player and looking at some of the behaviours and performances of so called stars who are leaving- I am thinking "good riddance".

Players are moving for money and whatever they say to justify/explain/account for their move that avoids talking money is a load of absolute crapola.

You have to understand that blokes like curnow who are twice the player that TDK is on 1/3rd of what TDK is now earning are very very pizzed orf.

Curnow wants to move to get paid more money
TDK moved for more money.
Silvagni moved for more money.

The only way to manage this reality is to be absolutely ruthless with players and that is perform or FOFF. You need to pour resources into fast tracking developing players so that they can contribute whilst still not commanding enough BS money and they leave - or have accumulated enough older talent and depth that you are play the we play finals every year card.

The list that Silvagni built missed the midfield repeatedly for 3 years in a row - that is why the Club has lacked the depth to really contend- that and extremely poor mental leadership. There is no way a decent team concedes a 40 point start in a final and loses - the flag was there for the taking in 2023 and Russell was 100% correct when he stated recently - Carlton senior players were as a a collective - mentally weak. Walsh and cripps playing with a mattress on his ribs - were the only 2 who stood up.

Voss may be unpopular with some players- because he calls it out. No coach wants to come into a team with an inherited imperfect list and cop the crapola Voss has copped - he has actually outperform given the list he has had to work with.

This is why he hasnt been sacked. If Carlton make finals next year- he is going nowhere.

As for tanking - that is the worst thing you can put your players through - what a disgraceful way to build 'culture'.

I've said repeatedly the top of Carltons list has always been the problem. Mentally weak players bred and developed in a losing environment, and getting to play like that. 2023 was the exception to the rule. That was the list at its peak, it was never going to be repeated with the same players.

Sometimes around 2016 a veteran with premiership experience who could set standards was needed.

Tin foil hat: maybe Graig Cameron taking little pot shots at Bailey publicly is to get their fans a little riled up at him, so that trading him out becomes more palatable. "He wants out, he doesn't want to honour his contract, he's been speaking to other clubs behind our backs - guess we'll swoop on Curnow, what a big-brain play by us!".

Now ask yourself why we didn't get a flag, ney, we didn't even get close to a flag...

So why sell the farm for Butters now?
If not now when? With Cripps. Walsh, McKay, Weitering mostly into the second half of their careers, now is the time to strike if you want to make the most of those assets

Whenever this thread hears about a possible trade for anyone even remotely approaching a big name, it goes nuts.

No wonder the saints are paying Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera $2M a year.

He's got one of the biggest names in the world game!

Trade week should operate for 7 days, it’s ample time to complete trades. Currently its staged for media to maximize it, and its an embarrassment.
Reduce the farcical show to a minimum and reduce the theatrics.

Needs to be no longer than 36 hours. Even thats too much.

I hope for Blues supporters sake that Carlton are in the mix for Butters but just letting you know that Torin (Baker) and Butters are friends. Torin recruited and coached Butters at Maribyrnong Sports Academy. Torin is in regular contact with heaps of his past players and people he has mentored.

Butters will settle for salary of $500K/yr just to be close to Torin.

Got it.
