1/4 of our 2023 premiership team was acquired via trade….

I think he means trading first rounders for b-grade talents.

Money-ball style acquisitons like Hill, Frampton and Mitchell is all we should be doing this year, if we can't land an a-grade talent.

Do you want to give back the 2023 cup? We ain’t winning that without McStay’s contribution on the road to GF, Bobby’s on GF day and Mitchell throughout the season. High value for cost players are worth their weight in gold. Unless you’re taking the word ‘elite’ to its most liberal sense.

Apologies if you only meant this year as we indeed are in a particular situation with limited capital and 1-2y until we lose 4-5 clear best 23 players.
💯 A similar type of selection as 2022 please. We have places to fill to round out the list and we have connection issues that seem to plaque the team. Please fix these with a rounded approach. Buying a kilo of sugar helps but ain’t gonna do it all.

Trading lesser picks for a need based player is one thing but burning high end pick after high end pick is the type of trading we should avoid.

Example, Ben King or Patrick Voss next year, King is a RFA. Gold Coast will force you to trade for him and will want two/three first round picks. Voss who has previously been delisted will be unrestricted.

While King is the better player you would target someone like Voss as you can then take those picks to the draft and also build for the future

McStay was the only fringe player you listed. Mitchell won a Brownlow and the Hawks were paying half his wage. That’s worlds apart from North wanting a first rounder for Simpkin.

While I’ll admit Mitchell was never as good after breaking his leg. Simpkin was just never as good as him period.

Bobby, you brought in someone early 20s with elite potential. Coming off some health issues.

At least Rowbottom is 25 but Simpkin it’s a hard pass

You’ve just said in your previous comment “trading should never happen”. Of course there are situations where trading should happen.

And none of them A-graders.
This is irrelevant, but Hill and Cameron you could make a case for.

Buying sugar will just contribute to plaque.

So who would you target? King with the trade price attached or Voss? You should avoid trading where ever possible yes some times there is no other way but it should never be a priority

Calling your own theory "quite logical" is equivalent to giving yourself a high five. I think you need to log off for a bit and touch grass.

Graham Wright while at Collingwood hired Fly
Graham Wright while at Collingwood rejected Voss
Graham Wright quit Collingwood and went to the arch rival in Carlton
Carlton's coach is Michael Voss
Michael Voss is not a good coach
Michael Voss' contract ends in 2026
Fly's contact ends in 2026
Graham Wright will not renew Michael Voss' contract

How is the idea that Wright will at the very least try to poach Fly some out there and wild idea?

So yeah, call it giving myself a high five all you like, doesn't make it illogical

It's a bit too hypothetical.
Would Fly change his daughter's name from Maggie to Bluey?
