Eagles indirectly told Allen to go, but look they are in a rebuild and frankly they are helping Allens career telling him it is in his interest to move on, what is the problem??

Problem, lol no problem. I think you need to scroll back a page or two because the convo was on Merrett and the Hawks and what it will take to prise him away, and then Eaglevision mentioned about pick 2 for nank which he misunderstood my point. Anyway, leaving it there.

Could you imagine if this was Cotchin coming off a B&F, captain, contracted, etc no way you accept that, regardless if they are not winning anything anytime soon.

Hahaha too true unless it's West Coast :tearsofjoy:

If that's the offer, it's a big fat no. Pony up Hawks, and get two first-rounders within the top 10, that's what it's going to take.
For 30 year old Cotchin

You take that for sure.

30 year old Merrett is not worth 2 picks in the top 10 lmao.

Whether you think Merrett is not worth it is irrelevant, he's contracted and the Hawks are pursuing hard, will need to pay more, so one top 10 pick ain't going to cut it, that im sure of.

Look, to play devil's advocate, if it were 9 and 12, it could sway the bombers to get the deal done.

Reminds me more of Ryan Griffen. 28yo, 2 x b&f winner, AA and captain at the dogs in 2014. Wanted out at the end of that season. Obviously not the same calibre of player but still a good player and club captain. Traded with pick 6 for Tom Boyd. Dogs won the flag 2 years later. If Merrett wants out you trade him out

Realistically is the Merrett situation that dissimilar to the Deledio situation at the end of 2016?

I’m pretty confident that if this happened we’d not be trading with you for at least a couple of years. At least bid on one of the ones we don’t want
Seems you guys are the ones chasing our junk this would be devastating 😭

ESPN AFL Draft Power Rankings: Who's bolting, sliding after the combine?

With the AFL Draft combine wrapped up and more intel for clubs to go by, ESPN releases its October power rankings featuring the top 40 junior prospects from around the country in 2025.

The 2024 draft crop was blessed with an abundance of depth; Jobe Shanahan at pick 30, Sam Davidson at 51, Ty Gallop at 56, and Zak Johnson at 70 are all examples of how deep last year's pool ran.

This year's crop is decidedly different. The top-end talent is meagre and the prospects that clubs are confident bringing onto their main list runs dry quickly. Expect to see more rookie elevations this year, and the 71 selections taken 12 months ago will look closer to 60 this time around.

There have been some late-season bolters to provide more depth to the first-round contingent. Eastern Ranges duo Sullivan Robey and Oskar Taylor could land inside the top 15 on draft night, with Robey a chance to bolt into the first five. Before them it was WA's Jacob Farrow who announced himself, with the halfback now locked as the first Sandgroper taken.

But there have been sliders across the year, too. Fred Rodriguez couldn't capitalise on his fantastic bottom-age campaign, Louis Emmett came into the season with as much hype as Cooper Duff-Tytler, and Collingwood's father-son Tom McGuane won't find his way to the Pies in the national draft.

All that's to say recruiters have the same concerns they did about this class 12 months ago. They'll make their money picking in the back half of the draft, while the first round will be filled with club-tied talent. Accounting for compensation/assistance picks and night one will stretch well past 30 selections.

There's still reason to be excited if you're picking inside the first 15 or so. This year's pool has terrific, bankable players who thrive in specific roles around that range. Xavier Taylor, Aidan Schubert, Mitch Marsh, Josh Lindsay, and Sam Cumming are all such different players ready to step up to important roles in an AFL system.

1. Willem Duursma
2. Zeke Uwland (Suns Academy)
3. Dan Annable (Lions Academy)
4. Cooper Duff-Tytler
5. Dyson Sharp
6. Xavier Taylor
7. Dylan Patterson (Suns Academy)
8. Sullivan Robey
9. Sam Grlj
10. Sam Cumming
11. Harry Dean (Carlton father-son)
12. Aidan Schubert
13. Lachy Dovaston
14. Josh Lindsay
15. Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves
16. Jacob Farrow
17. Mitch Marsh
18. Oskar Taylor
19. Ollie Greeves
20. Adam Sweid (Essendon NGA)
21. Harley Barker
22. Louis Emmett
23. Max King (Swans Academy)
24. Fred Rodriguez
25. Beau Addinsall (Suns Academy)
26. Archie Ludowyke
27. Jevan Phillipou
28. Blake Thredgold
29. Rory Wright
30. Hussien El Achkar (Essendon NGA)
31. Blake Oudshoorn-Bennier
32. Cameron Nairn
33. Jack Dalton
34. Matt LeRay
35. Kye Fincher (St Kilda NGA)
36. Sam Swadling
37. Zac McCarthy (Collingwood NGA)
38. Jack Ison (Carlton NGA)
39. Tom Burton
40. Toby Whan (Fremantle NGA)

I’ve always looked at it this way re trading for any player - what’s the player worth to the club and their Premiership aspirations or even playing finals.
If getting Merrett gets them a flag in the next 3 years he’s worth 2 top 10 picks, regardless of age.
For a club like us, in the rebuilding stage, no way I’m giving up 2 , top 10 picks.

No Louis Kellaway in that top 40 rankings. More proof we don't need a pick for Tyler Young. We could literally trade a 2027 4th round pick for a late pick in 2025 a team intends to "pass" with to match any bid on Kellaway after pick 37.

Or use our 5th rounder this year.

No need. We still get picks after the 4th round in this draft if required.

I didn't know we had one haha

That's you, and you're entitled to that way of thinking.

Say what, before 2017, we hadn't won a flag for 36 years. So to answer your point, no way would I want Cotchin going even if he wanted out.
But before 2017, Cotchin wasn't 30 years old. He was 26 years old.

And if Merrett was 26 years old and I was Essendon, I wouldn't be trading him either.

But he's 30 and they're a basket case. And he doesn't want to be there. And his style of captaincy clearly isn't inspiring his troops or holding them to account.

So move him on and cash in on Hawthorn's potentially over-inflated assessment of his worth to them.

I'm just very thankful that our hat is not in the ring for him.

On Cotchin, I have always rated his leadership qualities and as captain too, so I wouldn't want to see him go.

Bombers are all over the place that i agree, but on Merrett, if the price is right, then yes, the bombers will let him go, but it won't be for a sole first-rounder and a fringe player. They have the upper hand, and they will leverage this to the max. Hawks pick 9, and another will be needed around pick 10-12 to get it through. Other clubs will need to be involved, a 3-4 way trade.

Merrett will help the Hawks because they rely on precision passing and overall good ball use.

Look at us last year, everyone saying Bolton ain't worth 2 first rounders, but we got 10 and 11, and yes, he's younger.
We got it because he was contracted, and the price to pay will always be higher.

Same with Rioli, pick 6 and 23 (two first-rounders). If he wasn't contracted, pick 6 would be it and nothing more by the Suns.
Baker about right, at pick 14

Anyways mate, it's been a nice discussion but I dont want to clog up any further this AFL draft/combine thread with Ess/Hawks trading scenarios.

why, is Eagles not here to win premierships???

what is your point???

If Allen is not in their window why be *******ed???

The Eagles are in WA, lot of mining companies. Ever heard of the Lassonde curve building a mining company??

things are not supposed to be linear, they represent real life cycles and journeys
Lol

$1m x 6 years, our offer was almost half that, certainly in years.

Come one bro, you dont know that, pure speculation that WC supporters convinced themselves is true to feel better about it. Its cool, we would probably do the same.

Duursma 193cm now?
He’s #1 pick for sure.
Most versatile prospect that’s come through in a long time.

Yet some posters on here think he wouldnt even go top 10 in last years draft FFS.

Been watching some highlights of Robey/Lalor/Smilie.

My big concern is kicking. Watch Lalor and Smilie and the way they hit players in space with pinpoint accuracy with minimal reaction time. Robey’s kicking is not in the same league - inaccurate and no ability to weight and read the play.

Yes it can be improved but instincts can’t be which Lalor and Smilie look to have and Robey doesn’t.

Could be wrong, but I’m happy for us to pass right now.

Fair chance the 2 we have would go 1 & 2 in this draft though so no surprise they're better.
