Re: 'Alleged' rumours resurfacing ...

Folks, this is the way things are here.

Posters are responsible for what they post. Moderators can not attest to the accuracy or otherwise of any rumour posted.

Moderators will intervene for a couple of reasons.

1. If a thread is threatening to be derailed because of a post.

2. If invested parties request the removal of material.

None of this draws a conclusion as to the accuracy or otherwise of the original post.

There is no need to further speculate. What will be will be.

Also, you need to remember that this thread like all parts of this forum is bound by the rules of poster conduct. If you want to express skepticism towards a rumour that's fine, but having a crack at posters who are contributors to this forum is simply not on and will be acted upon.

Simply put, don't be a dick.

Thanks all!

For some reason
It wouldn't surprise me we agree a deal with Swans and Curnow and his management refuse for him 2 go there
The natural reply to that is "suck it up princess... you wanted out, we're getting you out".

Swans have leaked today (via Cal Twomey) that they are shopping Florent to try and get the Curnow deal going. That implies that we aren't interested in Florent, but Swans think they can shop him for something that helps

Have also leaked that Hayward/Carlton info again. That implies that we DO want him

I suspect Swans are trying to get a first-round pick above where a Dean bid will come. If we keep TDK pick to match Dean, that feeds into something 'too good to refuse', I think.

Interestingly, I don't think we have been linked to Rowbottom, even though I think he is great and would fit perfectly, and so I suspect they are kicking the tyres on a big series of trades like:

  • Rowbottom --> GCS or Essendon for pick 6 or 7ish.
  • McDonald + a pick to West Coast for pick 2? From our end obviously we want pick 11 to go (not pick 7) so lets assume that IS the case and a few other bits and pieces change hands

The 'too good to refuse' trade could be something liek:

  • Curnow --> Sydney
  • Pick 2, 7 (or 11), F1 and Hayward to Carlton
  • We also ship a player to WC (Acres? another WA boy?) to get them off the cap and clear a list spot (a la the Durdin trade)

The carrot here is that it is at least one pick and either a pick that covers Dean (allowing 10/11 to be used by us) or even a second pick ahead. Plus a later pick next year - assuming our own gets used on Walker we can then draft at 15-20 or so as well

Is a top 5 pick, Hayward, a bonus top 15 pick this year, and a bonus 15-20 pick next year enough? I'd rather Rowbottom directly, more than the top 5 pick, but I think that does become enough

Ollie cracks in,Lij has the easier role.
Poor Ollie's light body gets crunched at every opportunity by the opposition.
Ollie was starting to look more like a mature body towards the end of the season. I'm expecting him to come out next year a touch more heavily muscled and still just as quick.

Hayward himself said he'd be willing to be part of a deal. He is reluctant, but he would still agree to come if push comes to shove.

We’ve established from Sydney and Geelong supporters (on BigFooty, reddit and social media) that every single player that’s been rumoured from either club to be part of the Charlie Curnow trade is a better player than Charlie Curnow.

Imagine the disappointment from these fanbases if even one of those players come to Carlton. 😲

That tells me that syd offered him to us as part of the trade and we said not interested.
They might have offered him to us as part of a trade that originally didn't involve Hayward and we said no thanks.

2029! Who the hell put that contract through?!
Is this a bowes type situation then?
Wasn't there a trade rule put in place a couple of years ago where if a club wanted to dump a contract, they would hand over a pick to go with the player they're shipping out. If that's the case, we'll take him and pick 32 thanks :D

Charleson would be stiff, showed a bit in the twos. Florent fills a need was hoping we could trade for him separately.
Charleson still has a couple of years of development to go through. Think Billy Wilson, but more Matt Carroll in size.

We could definitely get Bailey in the future just not this year

If we can show promise with the restructured squad we can impress talent to come across. Cody and jagga the main two who will help with this
Yeah it might actually help us in the long run if he is held to his contract. I reckon a few other clubs would be in front of us in the pecking or now, but if we can impress in 12 months, you never know

Hopefully goes around again.
Should have had a look-in at the end of the season to assess.
Charleson and Lemmey should have both played at the end of the season to assess them in the big show.

I still don't think it's done just yet. The swans will have to convince players to leave. That's never easy.

And cough up a lot of draft picks.

I consider it a 40% chance of getting done... but a 95% chance of getting done next year. #Gibbs.

That would be the last thing Carlton would want I'd suggest. A whole year of will he or wont he stay from the media.

Are people really going to be happy with a mid-teens pick this year, a pick in the 20’s next year, and a couple of role players for Charlie? I’m not going insane am I?
?

Pick for Dean, pick for Cody and some best 22 players for a guy who underperformed this year, and is no guarantee to not sulk it up next.

At the start of the season it's a no. But we are here now and 4 players for 1 is better than hoping Charlie doesn't go full Bazlenka

Agree.
And I think it’ll end up being something big that where very happy with.
I just have a gut feeling that Davies/wright/austin are only excepting something mega fruitful for us

Someone on the Pies board suggested their F1 for Buller and Rowbottom.

I am dreaming of this, its almost worth trading Curnow just to have a Collingwood deathriding thread just as they are about to fall off a cliff.

Swans:
In: Curnow, Carlton 2026 R3
Out: Rowbottom, Buller, Hayward, Sydney 2025+2026 R1

Pies:
In: Rowbottom, Buller
Out: Pies 2026 R1

Carlton:
In: Hayward, Sydney 2025+2026 R1, Pies 2026 R1
Out: Curnow, Carlton 2026 R3

I think that counts as blowing us away

We will have the points for Dean regardless of whether we get the swans first this year or not. And their pick next year will be useless if we need 2 top picks for Charlie

And he's dropped the ball there. Melbourne can't get pick 8 for Trac because he has us getting pick 8. And what's that shit about us giving up Curnow and our JSOS compo and only getting 3 firsts back? That deals not working at all.

Get your point and if it was upsetting the player group to have him around I could understand, but it seems (and I have no idea) that Walsh and quite a few others want him to stay!
Definitely possible, and haven’t heard any player comments to suggest he’s not wanted by the group. But based on recent comments from Voss and then Davies this week it sounds like we’d rather pay him out than keep him.

There’s usually a pretty compelling reason clubs land on that course of action

Depends who drove the article.

If it was Carlton, he is staying and they’re managing the optics after telling him to explore his options.

If it was Elijah and his management, he needs to find a club and this is a call to show he is on the mend.

He is too good a talent to delist or trade for pick stuff all, but obviously he has burnt a lot of bridges and that article isn’t telling the full story. If he’s going to get it right surely his best chance is at Carlton with his brother. Please retain him if it’s even remotely possible.

His brother is already here and he's "clearly not getting it right" now.

That’s not bad tbh.
That would give us an absolute war chest of picks to play with
