MIDFIELD MIX 2026 | who’s in?!

Tigers midfield will need to take on a new look in 2026 to take steps forward, let’s take a look at a few combos!

Link below ⬇️

Prestia is cooked and you’ve got him as our most important mid. If he’s playing anything more than a supporting/depth role to Taranto and hopper this season then we are heading down the wrong path

His coaching on field to set up the younger cubs is what makes him important.

But he can’t be in there with Taranto and hopper, he needs to be with 2 younger players.

He finished the season on a 30 disposal game, the kids aren’t doing that yet so Prestia is still an important cog.

Yeah we hear a lot about “onfield coaching” but if you’re not physically capable anymore you shouldn’t be playing. He is running at 3qtr pace, he’s fumbly with his hands and is very poor defensively. Should have called it at the end of this season I reckon.

He played 13 games straight, frequently in our top 5 disposal winners averaging 23 touches, averages 4.4 clearances a game, kicked goals.

Not sure what much more you want from him all things considered.

We still need the experience for another year or 2 whether we like it or not.

None of the cubs are putting up those numbers.

We have plenty of experience in the middle. Stats are misleading. Watch the games and see how he’s moving and the junk possessions. He can’t sprint anymore. We are slow and lack spread and he is the worst of our bunch in that regard and general defensive work rate. Watch the opposition stream past him on the spread.

We can’t carry our three senior mids in the same 22 and he is worst of the three. I’d rather be getting mid time into the kids when are losing games anyway.

Anyway, I like your vids that you are producing. Creates good conversation. Good work

I agree we can’t have the same crew in the middle as last year with the speed factor, that absolutely must change.

IF (big if) we are smart with how we position Taranto, Prestia , and hopper especially with the extra bench rotation now, I think it can work for 1 more year.

But as you said they just can’t co exist in the guts.

Prestia averaged 23 pretty average disposals per game last year, I would bet that if Lalor or one of the other new kids came into the midfield full-time, they would average close to that, and with better ball use and run and carry. The ball was a bar of soap for Prestia for much of last season.

Split the midfield times of Lalor, Smillie, Hotton, Campbell, (Robey/Cummings) up, with Hotton, Ross and Taranto. Where does Prestia fit on their because he is not playing better than those 3.

I think expecting 2nd year players to be full time central midfielders is a good way to run them into the ground and stifle their development.
