Jesus he really is pushing Taylor & Grlj to Richmond isnt he
Based on list needs , Surely he should know when drafting specially in the 2nd year of a rebuild you dont draft for needs but the best talent and when was the last time a HBF with speed or a HBF interceptor was drafted with picks #3 & #4 ?

Grlj is not a mid he is a HBF that should be selected #8+ and similar to Taylor
Inside / Outside mids or Fwd / Mids with special traits should be the focus with Richmond 2nd year rebuild
So if we were to bid on Uwland Patterson Annable & Dean before drafting Grlj & Taylor at 7 & 8 you'd have no issue.

Grij in the VFL game looked such a likely type, way more then just a HBF.

Find it hard to understand why he isn’t getting more love.

Robey and Grij - but still wonder if WC take Robey so we turn have to decide on Robey or CDT.
But did Grlj look better than Jagga and FOS did last year. Probably not and we didn't draft either of them.

What does this even mean? Our recruiting team wouldn’t even have the slightest idea what he says, how’s he pushing it? It’s just an opinion and has no bearing on who we select

Grlj is a mid 🤦🏻

Yeah. Considering all the available players come with a question mark or two, this article reminds me of what Grjl could project as in a few years at AFL level. Exactly what we need.

“Grjl is unfazed about where he starts his career, likely as a linebreaking half-back or hard-working winger, but blossomed when charged with midfield responsibility in 2025, which is viewed as his long-term position.

The worry I have with him is he could end up as a Butters type or he could end up as Will Phillips. I don't think he's a safe bet, which really no player is really a safe bet but there are riskier types and I feel he is one.

His backflips on Jevan and Sharp are incredible, talk about back to the fence to cover some butts

other commentary must have pulled him into line, lol, reckon he is playing some politics for extra hits
Feels like he got Lalor and FOS right last year so double downed on an X-factor, athletic type

I get it. I see a bit of Josh Ward. But the fact is Sharp could end up a Will Brodie, Robey could end up a… I dunno… Ben Lennon? And so on.

As I said, every option has question marks… high ceilings, sure, but floor level we don’t want to admit is there. Will come down to where the club projects them ending up you’d imagine.

Good stuff. But I reckon they could have thought a bit more deeply. Didn't mention Robey, CDT or Sharp. Robey - power mid/forward to compliment Lalor and Smillie to give us the strongest and most dynamic midfield in the AFL. CDT to work in tandem with Sims to give us a super athletic and quick around the ground set up. And Sharp to work with Lalor and Smillie to complete a defensive and attacking midfield.
Interesting that they didn't look at those highly rated players, just filling the holes types.

They did mention Robey as well.

CDT wasn't mentioned for us or Essendon as they're predicting he becomes an Eagle.

Sharp just isn't a top 4 pick and a poor list fit imo. He got mentioned to the Bombers.

He didn't mention them because he'd just been asked about the players Essendon could get and they were the ones he highlighted., so no need to show the same players again.

Sounds like our picks are going to be out of Robey, Taylor, Cumming, Grjl, Sharp, with CDT a remote chance of being available.

What’s with the Will Phillips comparison? At worst he will be a good linking HBF.

I'm still all in on Robey and Grlj.

Half the people criticising Grlj don't even know what position he will play in. Aristotle said he was a small forward and went to town on him FFS....

See Damo80 's post if you want to know the correct answer.

He fits a need and after pick 3 he's in the tier of players more or less of the same quality between 4 and 10, but with the skills and weapons we are seeking.

Whether we split pick 4 and risk trying to nab him later is another matter altogether.

Loved this part:-

"Grlj catches the eye with his devastating overlap run, possession chains and clean skills, but it's underpinned by a hunger to get the best out of himself and beat opponents"

Sound like a Richmond man to me. Exactly what we need.

On the proviso that the Eagles pick as many expect Duursma and CDT, what two combo options would you like at our picks 3 & 4

I like Option 1 personally, Robey, the big-bodied mid who can also roll forward. Grjl a mid who is quick, attacks the contest hard and can start as a hard-running defender.

Second would be Option 5, Sharp, who is a bit undervalued on here. He is a hard-working mid with good leadership qualities. I have Grjl in both combos provides another element to the midfield who can also play as a defender.

1. Robey & Grjl
2. Robey & Sharp
3. Robey & Cumming
4. Robey & Taylor
5. Sharp & Grjl
6. Sharp & Cumming
7. Sharp & Taylor
8. Taylor & Grjl
9. Taylor & Cumming
10. Grjl & Cumming
I'm leaning towards 1,3, 5 or 10 I think. I think option 10 appeals to me most. Although tbf I haven't actually watched many highlights of any of the players and instead just read this thread lol

Good to know context. That explains it

I’d argue he looked every bit as good as either of them.

We didn’t pick Jagga or FOS because we took Lalor ahead of them, doesn’t mean we didn’t rate them.
Jagga and FOS are light years ahead of Grlj IMO, it’s not even close but spot on with your second point. If FOS or Lalor were going to be available at pick 3 last year there’s every chance you would have had picks 1, 2 and 3 in this year’s draft.

I don't see the Will Phillips comparison at all. Phillips is slow, Grlj is not. I also think Grlj has him well and truly covered when it comes to his competitiveness. I think Grlj has a pretty high floor, it's hard to see him not being at least a handy HBF, as we saw at VFL level.

In this draft with so many question marks about the top prospects, I'm taking that floor combined with his high upside/potential to turn into a Butter type midfielder.
