You don't know that. Only father time does.

And yet somehow you reach a conclusion that we should draft a guy whose a half back flanker without any reason (and in any event, is rated behind some mids).

Makes no sense.
A. I didn't reach any conclusion about any half-back-flanker.
B. Rated by whom? Zero Hangar? Rookie Me? Give me a spel. The only ratngs that matter are those of recruiters.
C. It is my opinion that there are no elite mids in this draft. It is my utter conviction that if there is one, it won't be Sharp or Cumming. Phillipou is the best chance in my view - should we use pick 4 on him? I'm all for splitting pick 4 if it means we get Phillipou and another good pick, peferably next year.
D. It makes perfect sense not to draft mids just for the sake of it if you don't rate them. Recruiters are paid to make these calls based on their experience and judgement. It's a prediction.

TIGER CONUNDRUM

Which players Richmond selects with its first two picks remains a big talking point among the industry.

Should West Coast overlook Duff-Tytler, the Tigers would almost certainly pounce with their first natural selection. But the expectation is the Eagles will pair Duff-Tytler with Duursma.

Three open-pool players are consistently linked with Richmond: Eastern Ranges star pair Xavier Taylor and Sullivan Robey, as well as Oakleigh Chargers speedster Sam Grlj.

Robey – a powerful 192cm forward-mid – is the biggest bolter in an AFL draft since Clayton Oliver 10 years ago. No AFL club had spoken to Robey prior to July this year. Three months later, all 18 had contacted him.

Taylor is a serious defensive talent who’s rocketed into top-10 calculations over recent months. At 191cm, he’s a genuine hybrid third defender who has the athleticism and versatility to either lock down or intercept while playing on forwards of different sizes.

Grlj, who’s spoken to 17 of the 18 AFL clubs, is a hybrid midfielder with the appealing combination of speed, power and endurance.

Opinions from rival clubs vary on what the Tigers will do.

Some believe Robey would be too good to overlook. If the Tigers didn’t select him, he wouldn’t get past either Essendon or Melbourne.

Most would be shocked if Richmond overlooked Taylor, who’s seen as a possible long-term replacement for the likes of Nick Vlastuin and Nathan Broad. But would the Tigers prioritise midfielders at the pointy end of the draft? And would Essendon or even Melbourne have a similar mindset?

The Tigers arguably don’t have a player with running power and speed like Grlj on their list. But if they don’t pick Grlj, he could slide past several clubs and land somewhere in the middle stages of the first round.

The only other prospect in the Richmond mix would be South Australian midfielder Sam Cumming, yet it’s more likely he’ll land at one of the Bombers or Demons.

If we take Taylor & Grlj, I'm not sure how i will be able to get up in the mornings.

Youve changed man. The old ratd would have slotted himself into the last sentence with (and probably ahead of) recruiters.

Why do you thing Phillipou is the best chance to be an elite mid and not Sharp or Cumming? Is this based purely on his athletic traits or something else?

I rewatched noobermensch season highlights on Robey and Sharp. Both look so very good, and so very different.

Robey is a run and gun type, big marks and metres gained. Good footy smarts and a monster.

Sharp is inside first, with not much run and gun. His body movement is incredible, ability to slip a tackle and get to the ball in tight is amazing. Very high footy smarts, and good skills.

Both a big units, and go hard. If you combined both their good aspects you'd have a complete footballer of super high level.

I reckon you could play both of them together. Sharp fills a hole we have in our future midfield mix. Robey is similar to Lalor, but not as skilled (although Lalor is super silky, so that isn't a real knock).

They both look like top end picks in most years. But both are not compete players. It'll be interesting to see what we do.

My opinion has no influence, so it doesn't matter. It's still right, of course.

The main point that makes me want to draft Sharp is his improvement from last yr and willingness to play in different positions to improve his footballing ability. He clearly doesn't want to be pigeon-holed to one spot on the ground which is what supporters are seeing him as currently. Give him some time and i think will be effective not just on the inside but in multiple areas of the ground.

If we overlook Robey and then another side comes in and steals Kellaway late on us this board will go nuclear.
chief will need to put the board in a lead-lined sarcophagus and file it next to the ark of the covenant.

Not having a crack at him, but I can't quite get my head around what Tom Brown's role in the team is?
Not really a run and carry, not really an interceptor, not really a lock-down defender on either talls or smalls?

Just coz I'm thinking about the backline and how much of a need X Taylor would be.
Could easily see him replacing Jayden Short in 16 months time
Has the speed and endurance now and is a great kick and reader of the ball. His marking is very good and can intercept

Easy to see what his future role is 'If you want to see it '

How many list spots do we have that we can use on draft night? If we split pick 4 into two picks this draft, could we use them as well as 38?
We currently have 33 senior listed, 4 Cat A rookies & 1 Cat B rookie.

We're elevating Campbell which makes it 34, 3 & 1.

That would mean we could take up to 4 players in the draft, at present we have picks 3, 4, 38 & 81. So if we split 4 into 2 picks that would effectively mean 81 disappears.

You see I’d have Dalton at a much better pick than that so it proves it isn’t me
So what happens if Hicksy has Dalton inside the top 30 then?

Richmond trading pick 4 to Carlton for 9 & 11 then bidding on Patterson at 3, Annable at 4, then Dean at 5 would be the best draft night experience ever.

Geelong board were devastated that we pinched him. I think he's a real talent and probably going to be HBF.
