Alright, back on track. I've whipped up a quick consensus again – will add the missing ones as they're made available.

Thats not a simple mark. Also, as i said, winning a rising star means nothing. Lewis Taylor and Rhys Palmer won one. It just means youve played regular footy.

anyway, i'm done with this thread til draft day. People so hurt because theyre offended at wanting Tauru over Langford even though majority would.
Taking a mark means nothing.

Shock horror that he can actually do the basic fundamental part of footy and that's literally marking a footy.

Super keen for the majority to chime in and say they prefer Tauru to Langford.

FWIW, I would have preferred Tauru last year. For no other reason than him being the best KPD prospect on the board and his draft range was around our selection.

And the year before that, I preferred O'Sullivan or Curtin ahead of Windsor for the exact same reasons.

Turner is promising but he needs more help.

I don't have confidence in Petty being the cornerstone of our backline after his foot injury. He was good as a third tall in our flag year, but he has been poor since his foot injury. He will have good games here and there, and clunk the occasional mark but he is not someone that is going to regularly bother opposition forwards. Not great at locking up opposition forwards. His disposal is not damaging either, not the player you want to launch the ball in transition. Not sure what he brings to the table.

I don't have an opinion on Jed Adams. Needs more time and games put into him. But how much time do you afford someone who took to the end of his third year to debut?

Not a Howes fan. 28 games in 4 years. He should be further along in his development. Fringe player.

Tauru is very good and better than I thought he'd be in year 1, no problem with someone saying hes a top 5 player out of last year draft. But Langford is better.

10xAA Tauru better learn how to kick the footy in 2026. Turned the ball over plenty of times in defensive 50 under no pressure.

Could also learn how to handball on his left.

Compares well to a number of big-bodied mids in their first seasons, despite not spending as much time on the inside as most of them (apologies for the image-heavy post):

Please don't use this lol
I bet Rhys Palmer, Tom Rockliff an others of that ilk did as well lol.

Some of you guys really love conversing with the posters who like to think outside of the brain.

errr, because Tauru only played 10 games after injury and knocking someone out in the vfl. also, don't embarrass yourself and use the rising star as any sort of metric. A lot of spuds that didn't even make the grade have won the award. aka Rhys Palmer and Lewis Taylor. Let alone guys that came 4th.
This is exactly why we don't prejudge Windsor, Tholstrup and Langford, on any of they're weaker areas.

I said Murphy Reid was a gun last year pre draft and he won the rising star to prove me right but id still much rather Langford than Reid after what we've seen. If people watched us more closely last year (fair enough why no one would) you cant tell me you'd take anyone over him. Langford in a faster paced team will be incredible, buckle up Dan and get your apology ready.
mReid always was good in U-18's, but it wasn't obvious IF that would translate into AFL
He is slow and that is the hardest skill to fix.

After 3 seasons should be time to really judge how the players are tracking, in AFL terms.

I still think the club got it wrong, Re Verrall.

One thing I like with us potentially looking at Farrow and Nairn, is that they could potentially start to push out Salem and Langdon, respectively, over the next couple of years IMO. Plus, the flow on effect of Farrow and Lindsay both hopefully being backline regulars could mean Rivers gets a more consistent role and he finds his form again.

I'd still much rather Pickett or Dovaston with one of our picks, but hypothetically can see how things can come together.
... maybe we get to use our 3rd Rnd pick on Pickett.

not gonna post the clips of hodge comparing him to Glen Archer or Lyon frothing over Tauru? How about his mark of the year nomination? or his elite spoils? Or are u forgetting Langford one armed squibbing in marking contests? be balanced.

So if i was list manager we'd have our key defender locked in for the next 15 years. Let me know how Jed Adams goes.

Petty is a key defender and we should have him for 10 years. Better than that spud Tauru.

Dovaston yes, Pickett no unless he slides to our later pick.

Not sure how Nairn takes Langdon spot,
we already got Culley pushing in there and Langdon is a fast endurance runner which Nairn is not. Langdon also will provide some senior leadership for next few years. Can see Nairn more a Melksham/Joel Smith replacement.

Agree on Farrow re Salem though.

If we want to talk about players to **** off out of the team we should be talking about Sharp, closely followed by Sparrow.
What I see with Nairn is he looks like a possible replacement for Fritsch.

I want us to completely rejig our inside F50 players.

.... Allowing for JvR starting deep, but leading up as the ball gets close, and then staying out high-forward, to keep the footy locked in our front half.
So with two talls starting forward, we have spots for Pickett, Nairn, mMarsh as a medium forward, and Chandler, plus interchange spots.
Nairn could play a Wing position, but he looks more clever than that, in how he goes about it in tight with opponents. Imv, he might even become an inside mid.?

Whatever you do don't mention Lever's fumbles.
... and his lack of kicking skills... let alone his NON setting up of fast attacking options, out of D50.

I'm not saying that Langford wasn't a top 5 candidate for the rising star. I'm saying the actual award is flawed. Deeply flawed. It's very hard not to make top 5 if you're a well developed early pick, playing for a 14th ranked team and playing the majority of games. It's got very little to do with performance and more to do with games played.
It's folly to judge a kids career, on his first season.

Barely any players ever start a career like Robbie Flower did with his.

With the 'rising star' award, 99.9% of the candidates are all failures... unless it becomes a draw. It's just another click-bait type thing.

Chandler as our only small forward who will go onto the bench for a rest each quarter will make us the easiest D50 for rebounding defenders to stroll out of. We also got Culley/Langdon and Langford already playing that wing/HF role.

Fritsch still has a fair few years left in him so not sure he is highest up the list to need to find a replacement for when we don’t have any small forwards in our F50 whenever Chandler gets injured or needs a spell.

this is why we need to draft for medium forwards now... allowing them time to grow and develop.
Small forwards are the a-typical icing on the cake.

I don’t. Verrall to me showed his absolute peak at AFL level would be a slightly undersized ruck who is OK at clearances but gives virtually nothing else.

Highlights are highlights, but Heath’s reel of contested marking and his additional height and size make him a clear upgrade on Verrall for AFL potential.
