It’s seeming pretty unlikely that he lasts till then.
Maybe, maybe not…
It’s not that he isn’t good enough, i just think that it’s very much the clubs before them are posturing for an outcome that provides better draft picks…
If so, I’ll be a little disappointed only because it cuts away a decent later round pick, but very happy just to get both Harry and Jack in provided we can maximize the best outcome from it, Fpick and points to cover them…

It’s unlikely to improve West Coast or Richmond’s draft hand much at all.
Totally agree, just responding to all the repetitive clickbait crap coming from the media platforms…
I’m not really fussed by the probabilities, whatever way it falls we end up with 2 great young players…
An extra late round pick or a future pick combination would be a bonus outcome…

Can someone please explain how those proposed trades suggested by Cal Twomey make any rational sense? I just can’t see how such trades would benefit us.

I would rather we hold onto 9 and 11 and see what plays out on draft night…
I think the most logical explanation is that we are learning that Dean and Ison are going to attract very early bids.

If Dean gets bid on at 3, and Ison at say 20, then 9 and 11 are completely wiped out and we have nothing leftover.

With these trades, we can match Dean at 3, Ison at 20, and have a (probably good) Future 2nd from North leftover.

Given the circumstances - as unsexy as these trades look, they are deeply pragmatic and are our best bet in an ugly situation.

The Eagles were offering 13 and 34 for 9, IMO this is us calling their bluff on a Dean bid.

They can't beat Essendon's proposed offer without dipping into future picks.

I don't want to be rude. But we must be at 20 pages of people discussing this

That's not how it works. Dean will cost us 21+25+27 combined. Ison will cost us 30+43+whatever spare change we have. It's looking like we are just taking the two.
That would be Dean being bid at 4. I’m not sure that happens and if the GC kids are bid on 25 and 27 would come in, albeit only by 1.

I’ll be surprised if we only take 2

Expect us to take Dean and ISON and a player around the late 20 or early 30 mark depending on where ison is bid at

On paper people will look and say we got shafted, but of all the drafts to potentially trade for unders value, this is the one.

Considering we will basically only be taking the academy/FS kids the actual numbers of the draft picks we have is completely irrelevant.

If we'd made no trades, likely 9 and 11 get taken by a Dean bid then whatever else is left is eaten up by Ison. Even if we net just 1 future 2nd round pick (we'll likely get more, but for arguments sake) we still end up ahead of where we'd have been if we made no trades.

21, 27 & 30 from the Bombers are worth 1708 points, 9 is worth 1355

25 is worth 590 points, 11 is worth 1205 - if North's second round pick is 25 or better we win on points there.

21,25 & 30 would be able to match a bid at 4 with a 10% discount for Dean (if we traded 27 out first somehow)

Ison we could easily get if we traded 27 and 54 for a pick in the 40's (to bundle with 43) and a future pick

So we could get Dean & Ison and a future second and future third for 9 & 11 and go into next years draft with 2 picks in each of the first 3 rounds

any club wanting to mess with any club's FS selection should be ganged up on by all other clubs at the following draft.
should WC or Dee's put an early bid in for Dean ... the next draft those clubs have a FS selection I'd bend them over the draft table !

Who's messing with it? Maybe they think he's a top 3 pick and are willing to draft him there, so bid. On the less than 1% chance the club doesn't match the bid you draft the kid you think is a top 3 pick in a position of need.
