Wasn't at training for the 2023 draft day either, clearly doesn't have the work ethic required.
Pfft... Training is for mere mortals only... Not number 1 picks!

As an aside... Now that Harley is moving up in the world...perhaps we can pass him the message to use his influence on puke Kent to double bid gc boys at pick one unlike pussying out at pick 2. Kapiish

Refreshing to hear 2 of the top prospects in this draft actually sound like adults.

Duursmas response especially as a potential pick 1 fills me with so much confidence compared to Harley.

Duursma will be a scary af player, that height/explosiveness/two-way running and goal sense could overtake Harley hype eventually.

Mitch Woodcock onto it with a Phantom. Lots of deep insights. Has us taking Marsh. Describes Phillipou as "A powerful athlete who has a love of raw traits"
Not a position of need for us imo. Dovaston taken the very next pick, would love him on the list.

The eagles draft experts will tell me why I have over tought this one, however I would think by bidding on Dean early, you are almost certainly costing yourself any chance of pick 13 coming in a pick or two to 12 or 11?

Right now, as it stands you have pick 13.. take out all other matches, as they come after this pick, simplistically thinking this pick comes in 2 by taking 9 and 11 of CFC? Well played in theory?

However, by bidding this early, CFC will now trade pick 9 and 11 to two certain users and two clubs - North and Essendon on almost the exact same list build timeline - direct competitors.

Eagles are more likely to get pick 1, 2 and 11 by NOT bidding on Dean, than bidding on him?

They will 100% not get that pick 13 higher by bidding and remain a good to great chance of it coming in one or two spots by not bidding?

Scenario 1 (Simplistic scenario where Carlton just cop it):

West Coast bid pick 1 or 2, Carlton do no trades and match.

West Coast will pick 1,2,11.... well played WC.

Won't Happen

Scenario 2:

West Coast bid pick 1 or 2, Carlton trade and match.

West Coast will pick 1,2,13.... north and Essendon 100% use those picks.

Media speculated scenario

Scenario 3:

West Coast don't bid on Dean, pick their player or bid on Patterson/Annable (or Richmond do)

Richmond pick Dean pick 6.. Carlton Match and lose 9/11 and get 22 (may stay in to get this one back).

West Coast will pick 1,2,11....

Better for Eagles - Carlton still may trade here as pick 22 is touch and go

Scenario 4:

West Coast don't bid on Dean, pick their player or bid on Patterson/Annable (or Richmond do)

Richmond don't bid Dean.. Essendon do Carlton Match and lose 9/11 and get 18 (almost certainly stay in for this pick).

West Coast will pick 1,2,11....

Best case for eagles and likely if they don't bid?
My understanding is that WC rate Dean at pick 2 and have spoken to him multiple times. So as it should be, if they rate him then bid.

Marsh would compliment our forward line very well , another forward option .
Good pick if we do .
He’s definitely a point of difference forward, showed some ability to get up and down the ground as well but geez the imbalance issues will be tough to juggle. CDT, A.Reid, Waterman, Shanahan, Marsh all in and out of the forward line is too tall, no forward pressure.

Will need to get our small and half forward mix right if we go down this path, Dovaston would’ve been so fun here.

All signs point to Freo bidding on Tylah. I thought we had an informal agreement that we didn't bid on each others NGA / Father Sons? Have we ever done so to them, or vice versa?

Shanahan , J Williams , A Reid all talls .
Waterman versatile but add M Marsh gives the forward-line more good options .
We like our tallish forwards....maybe Clarke, McQualter dont , few hr's will tell .
How would this work? One stay at home forward with Waterman and Marsh working up the ground, Archer/CDT as DEF/RUC rather than FWD/RUC? Or would we still want that extra tall forward and Waterman/Marsh take the place of a medium forward?

If Dovaston slide to us there its a pick I'd love to take. But back in the day an 18 year old 191cm CHF called Jack Darling used to be our highest rated pressure forward and transformed our forward line. In fact drafting this undersized CHF saw us rise from 18th to 4th. So it's among the most proven list strategies we have, actually.

mitch marsh at our 3rd pick would be interesting roaming chf, booming foot that cut the field up kick from center circle could hit 1 on 1 with snake/jobe

If we take CDT, we just HAVE to take a small at 13 (/17 whatever it is), ideally a mid if one is available. I mean there is a reasonable chance Duursma is a flanker type his career.

Leaving the draft with no pure mid (if we take our NGAs) would be an extremely poor outcome. Our midfield is deplorable.

I always figured that if we didn't go the CDT route with 2 (whether that be drafting a Robey/Cumming/Sharp etc or trading it) then Marsh would be very likely with our third pick. But if we are locked in with CDT, I can't see us also picking Marsh given it's a good chance that CDT ends up more of a forward than ruck and we also have Shanahan/AReid/JWilliams as young tall forwards too.

A Reid and J Williams unproven but good potential for sure .
We have NGA as possible draftees who are small forwards so Eagles have options .
Clarke / McQualter preference's will shape our draft .

Not sure what you are talking about here.

You've clearly made the trades already, they will be contingent on bids coming before pick 9, but as soon as the bid comes you'll confirm the trades then match. THere's no way pick 9 and 11 get eaten up matching.
Exactly, so WC bidding hurts any chance of pick 13 coming in?

WC Bid, pick 13 will only be pick 13.

WC don't bid, richmond bid, carlton tade and pick 13 remains pick 13.

WC don't big, richmond don't bid, Carlton may not trade.. pick 13 becomes 12 or 11.

What is best for eagles?
