I'm hoping CDT can teach Archer how to kick as a 201cm unit...

Good skills for a big man and can bang them in on the run from 50m

That really would be a stunning fall - from top 3 pick lock (on here) at start of season

He's only spoken to a few clubs. Not zero chance clubs are keeping their distance but it looks unlikely.

So here's a not unlikely scenario:

We grab NHH/philipou at 29
Williams pick 35
Banfield cat a rookie (straight onto the rookie list given he nominated as FS as I understand it?)
Evans cat B

We're then left with pick 1 in the rookie draft, and no list spots to use it. What if a Curtin or f-rod or blamires is there? Serious waste of a pick

Just reading the melts about trading out the Saints F2.

In a night where we got great prospects in the first round, there are a bunch who are not happy Karens! Oh well, some are never pleased.

Let’s not focus on how happy the 3 prospects sounded in becoming Eagles. Let’s worry about what is likely to be a mid 30’s pick was used to get up the draft board in R1
Lets ignore reality and just believe what we want to believe doesnt feel like the path to success.

We make mistakes. We acknowledge them and learn from them... Well we should :(

I'd probably take Poo first, there is an arrogance with that boy that I'd like to see explored.

I can understand being disappointed in trading away the F2. Without all of the information that was available to the recruitment team, I find it rather difficult to justify getting too worked up about it. I guess there's a release of endorphins from getting rabid frothy.

The team made an informed choice, and it was their call to make. Happy with the three picked so far. Not convinced that we rate Williams as highly as other sides. Hopefully when everything comes out in the wash that we have the three, with Banfield being the priority.

He is but he has a very high footy IQ , good tank, great vision , good desicion maker and a lethal left foot to go with that ability
Was rated top-10 up until about August. Form was stable, others jumped him in the order.

BOG in the U17 futures game then AFL academy vs Coburg vfl game, excellent start to the championships, U18 AA.

He is a significantly outside leaning player, but has some elite attributes.

Lindsay was the best available IMO. His kicking and vision are the best you’ll see at U18 level and I’ve rated him for a long time.

Question is would we have preferred Lindsay or any of Schubert, Nairn, Marsh, Barker PLUS the Saints F2?
I reckon a fair few would have been pissed had we ended up with another forward. Barker would’ve been alright although flattening with his injury.

F2 is a high price but it probably had to be done and it looks like a couple of other clubs thought the same.

In July ESPN had him rated as per the below

5. Josh Lindsay (7)
Geelong Falcons/Vic Country
DEF/MID, 183cm
National Championships: 3 games, 24.3 disposals, 4 marks

Lindsay enters the top five frame and has a shot at becoming the best ball user in the AFL in time. He possesses all of the attributes necessary in a distributor, able to weight kicks to perfection off his pinpoint left boot and also clear zones with penetration. Lindsay hasn't proved it as a midfielder and his contested game is lacking, but his ball use and dash suits the modern game to a tee.

IN August Cal Twomey had him ranked at 7
"After the championships finished, Lindsay went back to play with school side Geelong Grammar before returning to the Geelong Falcons in round 18 of the Coates Talent League, where he found 20 disposals. The laser left-foot kicking of the skilful half-back and midfielder has taken the eye of clubs and he can open up a game with his vision and execution. "

GWS trade up 2 spot using a f2nd and launch failed bid on Kyle, then take a player who'd have likely been available anyway:
WCE board - "That's elite shithousery from GWS."

WCE do exactly the same thing with Addinsall(one less spot):
WCE board - "WTF?! Club better explain this! SACK DUMB PUKE!!!!!!!"

FMD some of you need to get a grip.

teeny weeny difference....

GWS in finals contention with a shot at the title if they stay relatively injury free.

WC, currently AFL's biggest basket case.

We can't afford to play games.

It's still a pick that probably holds not much, if any, meaningful difference to our overall list strategy.

Not great to throw it away but like I said in an earlier post, we've burned 2nd rounders on shit picks for the better part of a decade now, at least we tried to do something meaningful with it this time.

This must've sounded good in your head, except:

We traded F2 from the Saints who finished lower than the Giants
We did it to move 1 spot up the order (which ended up 1 spot lower LOL)
We then bid on 2 players in a row, both of which were matched.

So we gave more than GWS, bid more than GWS, and missed more than GWS.

Stop defending bad decisions like your life depends on it - call a spade a spade. It was a mistake.

Still happy Lindsay is in the Blue and Gold but we ****ed up our acquisition of him

FWIW Hawks weren't the only club we tried to trade with to move up. Quite a few clubs did not expect GC to match on Addinsall, which includes us. Going to be a hard task for him to make it into that midfield.

I said it was a mistake.

I'm just saying I don't really give a shit that it happened because of all the mistakes the club's made recently, this isn't a particularly massive one.

It's a pick in the 30s next year, where we're likely to get more picks as some players start requesting trades, or explore FA.

Not worth melting over, because the biggest melters over this tend to be the same ones who melted that we didn't 3-peat after '18.

Addinsall wasn't expected to matched by most scribes and AFL clubs , GC are the new Geelong , allowed draft privilage thanks to the AFL .
But Eagles did pretty well with our picks , could have been better , still pretty good with only one list spot left possibly .

Yeah that's the thing. He's unlikely to play seniors for them any time soon. Would've been better for him long term to not nominate to begin with, tbh, plus GC could've benefitted from getting someone else who suits a need better.
