Laughing stock we are.

Sad Talk Show GIF by iOne Digital

I just saw afl.com.au....with staff writers (Cal Twomey) trumpeting how Cal has 'done it again' with his phantom draft....spruiking how he got most of his predictions correct etc.... why do people have to treat us like idiots? If you don't nail the phantom, just own it, don't give us some word salad trying to show how good you are....not.... But maybe he did better than I thought, so I reviewed which players he got correct where they didn't go to an aligned club (any muppet can get an aligned club correct):

Duursma - correct
CDT - correct
Cumming - correct
Grlj - wrong
Robey - wrong
Farrow - wrong
Taylor - wrong
Pickett - wrong
Sharp - correct
O Taylor - correct
Dovaston - wrong
Lindsay - wrong
Nairn - wrong
Carmichael - wrong
Marsh - correct
Schubert - wrong
Barker - wrong
Sweid - wrong

So he got 6 of 18 correct. 33% hit-rate. Cal, you had a shocker. No shame there...just own it poindexter.

Laughing stock we are.

It's hilarious.....go through the draft and trade period articles for the last 15-years. The Bummers have won more of these than I've had hot dinners...it's like clockwork. The more they 'win' the draft or trade period, the sh*tter they become.

Robey would've been Dusty/Bont Mark II with us...with the Bummers he'll be a poor man's Jarrod Berry and Mason Wood - we all know this is how it will play out.

I'm not going to get into this in any further depth as I've learned that you can never change people's minds on the Internet.
One last thing I'll say is, they were able to match bids on two top 5 picks and two further first round picks by trading out the bottom rung of their best 23 players to accumulate points. These players were undoubtedly going to be transitioned out of their team eventually through natural attrition.

They need to be giving up more equity of consequence to be able to bring in the quality that they are.
How are Jack Lukosius and Sam Flanders bottom rung best 23 ?

In Cal Twomey's draft rankings on August 27th, Robey was not in his top-30. Robey played his last game for the year on Sept 20th. Yes, his 40 and 3 game was after August 27th, but let's not panic just yet that we've missed a Bontempelli/Dusty clone.

Also, let's put the 2024 (top-30) and 2025 (top-31) drafts together instead of analysing them in isolation....so we've got 10 x picks across 61 x players - and it's generally accepted that in the open draft, only Duursma and CDT would've been locks for a first round pick in 2024, so our picks 7 & 8 would come early second round in a combined list.

So for our 10 x picks it would be:

Lalor
Smillie
Hotton
Faull
*** (2025)
Trainor
*** (2025)
Armstrong
Sims
*** (2025)

So picks 5 and 7 is where we took Cumming and Grjl.....

Having secured Lalor and Smillie, and already having TT, Hopper and McCauliffe, would it have made any sense to secure another hulking mid-fwd in Robey? Or a slow clearance beast in Sharp? Or an intercept defender in Taylor having secured Trainor, got Gibcus back on the park, seen Brown become a best-23 lock and confirmed Balta is going to play permanent defence?

Or would it have made perfect sense to secure elite midfield speed, endurance and defensive intent via Cumming and Grlj?

And if available, to complete a perfect mix, no reason we can't take Greeves (35 and 4 goals in an U18 PF, and touted top-15 for almost entire season). Or NHH or Poo (classy wingers). Or Emmett (potential #1 ruck).

The club has absolutely nailed it. Cumming and Grlj are exactly what we need, and at 7 & 8 not a reach at all in a draft regarded as pretty shallow.

Kudos Tigers for not getting caught up in the hype (as I was along with everyone else).
Memories like sieves.
So many posters banging on all year about how slow and predictable we are, so instead of injecting some pace into the mix, we want more bigger bodies o_O

XT on SEN…. 🤨 got “rinsed” last night after the draft. Will be an interesting watch. Whilst I was a little flat last night I’m really happy with what we’ve done and really like the two boys we’ve brought into the club.
I can now say that my Mrs did work with XT's mum.....she thought she was a massive bitch....
the apple obviously didnt fall far from the tree.

Can we afford to have identical types in Kickett and MRJ in the same forward line?

45 /
Campbell hits the scoreboard, Green drafted as a mid I think, turned into a small fwd and is replaceable. Maybe Alger is enough.
Maurice is a fair/poor kick of the football. Not long or accurate. has little game sense/awareness. often injured slow to regain condition.
Lightning quick run down tackles.
MRJ had a lot of CBAs vs Suns late season Taranto missed, MRJ not great.

Maurice 50 odd games, 24 y.o. and flawed. I can't see him improving.

apparently we were interested in Rosas from GCS. I think I saw Grjl in the forward line of our VFL team.

so, pick 31 and

how many rookie spots left?
