The improvement on Max early days and how he’s continuing to develop is what has me most excited on Hunter.

Smith looks like he just lost his spot on the dash brothers team
Mario - Max
Luigi - Hunter
Yoshi - Smith

I like it. Worth a throw at the stumps.

We’ve taken players like Willis, Evans, Constable and Jansen with picks in this region. It’s a zone of the draft that can be very patchy. The Holmes pedigree and the athleticism make this worth a shot.

I dont really like the pick if im honest. What I do like is athletically he does have a lot of potential and he clearly comes from a good family he will be a good citizen off field.
I dont however think his kicking is anywhere near afl standard and im not sure it can get to afl standard (that said hes raw so maybe with development it will).

I personally would have preferred philipou although no doubt his personality issues compared with Hunter as a good citizen comes into it.
No doubt that the club was more motivated to take him with Max already here.

100% agree. Whilst I can see the romance, he looks a long way back. Kicking is nowhere near the standard and looks quite rushed and no composure. Feel there were better options available and maybe we got a little sucked in? Of course could be wrong snd he could surprise but his kicking action is just so terrible. Reminds me a little of Oscar Riccardi who was just not up to AFL standard. Wish we had selected Phillipou or kondogiannis

Also not sure what role we are expecting? We have an abundance of wing run and carry players

This set of highlights are different to the ones I'd previously watched a few weeks back - my interested was piqued when I clocked his running capacity back then, but this game against the Stingrays highlights some other attributes HH has to offer; the quick hands in tight (a couple of indiscriminate handballs too, but the good far outweighed the bad) and a better look at his kicking technique, which imo looks more promising than the more obscured vision I'd previously seen.

Absolutely right. This is the only way we can beat equalisation. Pick players who are not ready to play (Dempsey, Zuthrie, Close and many others I assure BF family will identify) and therefore aren’t attractive to teams needing to get better immediately….but players with AFL traits and just build them up over 2-3 years.
..
With Startups, they call it "Patient Capital". Not having a short leash and allowing 'em to flourish. It's almost like we're fishing in a different pond.

It helps that we're successful and our supporters (us, we-all) are more tolerant to downturns.

I think it's a good pick, and it's not just a punt on athleticism either. Watching him in a pretty patchy Metro team I didn't seem him as raw, necessarily - he did a lot of running but he also knew where to run and what to do with the ball when he got it (which was a reasonable amount). The kicking was obviously hit and miss but a bit like his brother can be a 70m player. I think unlike Max, as Cursed Cat has said, he already has a bit of an inside game - in particular, he has quick hands and the vision to clear the ball out of congestion to outside runners. I think that's necessary because while he's quick I don't think he's got the same raw acceleration as Max - he can't just burn guys off from a standing start.

I don't think he play seniors next year but he might come on quicker than people expect. Certainly a VFL midfield that looked one paced last year should have some more dynamism with him onboard.

Cats kept it in the Family with Hunter Holmes
because :- You just can't teach speed
Plenty to work with... Plenty of work to do
Predict he will surprise by quick improvement

Cats now stacked with speedy wingers & back flankers.
2025 draftees fit into Cats brand of fast attacking footy.

Damn we really have had a lot of brothers on our books since the start of the century

Gary Jnr and Nathan Ablett
Travis and Adam Varcoe
Joel and Scott Selwood
Cam and Zach Guthrie
Jack and Ollie Henry
Max and Hunter Holmes

I think the weakness of his kicking is being massively overstated. Sure he's not Humphries or Duncan but he's got real penetration and in some highlights I saw he made some good decisions by foot under pressure.

His handballing looks good and his hands look incredibly clean below his knees. He uses his body to protect the ball pretty well, tackles aggressively and looks decent above his head.

So he has some good football attributes and outstanding athletic attributes. Looks like a worthwhile pick to me.

Happy with the club, is raw but has pace if they can get him improving his decision making will be a handy addition
