It's Membrey he'd most likely replace in our team if we keep Checkers. But I really hope they've got Membrey mentoring West. In terms of his VFL game, the big scope for improvement for West is leading - both patterns and clunking at pace on the lead.

agree on the mentoring - Membrey is superb at finding space and knowing when and where to lead.
West definitely has pace I think his 20m sprint was elite for his size.

He's very exciting. I see it a bit differently though, to me he hasn't yet got many ways to score as the doesn't yet have the forward craft. Most of his VFL goals were one on ones where he just owned the ball drop. That's the exciting bit, he's got the two big ticks that you want - he's going to be an awesomely powerful athlete and he reads it really well in the air. He needs to develop his reading of the game and craft and timing to get it on the lead and his hands on the lead weren't great, but he's got the pace to be unstoppable if those things come. And he's got a lot of scope to be dangerous on the ground as well. Best tall forward prospect we've had by a big margin since Cloke arrived 20 years ago.

I agree he needs to work on his game sense / footy craft but he clunked some very good lead up marks at VFL level this year. Was unlucky not to be paid one in his senior appearance.

He'll have Billy tutoring him on leading patterns and timing his leads.
He has strong hands and is a good kick for goal.
He has the raw materials to become a very good player.
With Checkers gone, a forward position is his for the taking.

Definitely would go up in the pecking order. And now he'll depend on his pre-season. Can he demand a spot from the get go. Lets see how he goes.
But either way you look at it, it will open up greater opportunities for him.

I've liked how we haven't rushed him to play senior footy. He had every right to debut earlier based on VFL output in the first half of the year though we let him keep developing. Bit of a victim of circumstance as well given we were chips in for the flag.

Not expecting a Logan Morris type second season though could see him booting 20+ which would be a great result.

I think West is the youngster with the best potential on our list, but think we need to temper the expectation a tad, he did come in this year against West Coast (of all teams) and played 2/3rds of a game for 3 handballs, 0 marks and one snap goal despite awesome VFL form.

He needs a mighty strong pre season to move the needle from our expected tall fwd line up of McStay (in Checkers’ role) - Buller (fwd ruck) - Membrey (3rd tall).

Well look at McStay and was not best 22 even with a Injured Miocheck and that is not a Good Look

We played shizen housen that game, no quick ball movement and the big guys just lead into each others space all game. Leads weren't being honoured, just dump kicks into a giant pack.


Would love for him to come out firing in pre season. Dont let the buller kid straight into the team.

How the young players, Long, Hayes, Howes, HDM, Steele, TJ, Ryan, Steene, Smit, Allen, Parker develop after another pre-season.
