Ryan Davis former Eagle and Sun is likely going to be coach apparently…

Current Brisbane Midfield coach under Starcevich… let’s hope he doesn’t fully adopt Brisbane’s game style though, that only works under Starcevich due to freak athletes and clean skills, something this list doesn’t really have a lot of at the moment.

Some background on Davis... played 35 games of AFL footy over two stints from 2008-09 (at West Coast) and 2016-17 (at Gold Coast). He played in the WAFL in between, winning a premiership with Swan Districts in 2010.

After that, he became the inaugural Southport Seniors Women's coach in 2020 (in the QAFAW), won back-to-back premierships (2020, 2021) and then saw their promotion to the QAFLW in 2022 where his team made the grand final and he was awarded QAFLW coach of the year.

In 2023 he was assistant coach for the Queensland women's team in their match against Tasmania, and then he joined Brisbane's AFLW team as an assistant coach in 2024, working with the midfield.

Obviously, he is still the midfield coach there at the moment given they have another GF to play, so presumably if he does come to the Crows it won't happen until after that.

It’s a more than fair women's coaching background, I just hope he can finally bridge that developmental side with the team and at least try to develop a more advanced game style. Interesting though it means they didn’t get exactly who they were after given the reports were always they ideally wanted ‘AFL mens coaching experience’.

Also hopefully he looks to bring in a couple of his own assistants rather than just being influenced and surrounded by the ex-Crows ‘family’.

Yeah, and five grand final appearances for his teams over six years is a decent return too. And clearly he doesn't mind moving across the country, given he's done it once before.

Good coaches will adapt to the playing group they've got, rather than trying to mould their playing group into a set style. Perhaps it's a good sign that Brisbane's midfield plays to their strengths well. Mind you, their midfield has always been strong, so you could argue he was gifted a plum role.

Yet to be announced, of course. I guess we'll find out for sure soon enough!

Big write up about Ryan Davis in today's 'Tiser. I hope it works out. He seems promising, but I would've liked someone perhaps more well known. It seems there are several other Clubs also looking for new coaches, with maybe not many contenders. So fingers crossed Ryan is the right fit when if he becomes the new Crows' coach.

"There are currently four senior coaching vacancies in the AFLW after Melbourne premiership mentor Mick Stinear announced his resignation on Monday.

Geelong parted ways with Dan Lowther last week, while Scott Gowans left Sydney with two years remaining on his contract after a shattering last-round loss which meant the Swans missed the finals."

Given his background I am happy its a great choice
