Dan Andrews was a very savvy and ruthless politician who would have thrown his mother under a bus if it helped him politically. Jacinta Allan is nowhere near as savvy as Andrews.

This poll would make sense had there been 1 Opposition leader since the election, the fact they have had 3 different ones suggests to me that logic has gone out the window with people and there going on emotions and feelings now. Considering the ever shrinking grip "teh media" is having on the electorate, it is possible that swinging voters may abandon Labor without any real influence from the media. They've been in power for 11 years and have seen a lot of ministers retire. There would be a conventionality to them losing next year.

The ALP certainly seem to have run out of money and ideas. But they do have two mega projects opening in the year leading into the election.

The Melbourne Metro will be a win for them and rightly so. The West Gate Tunnel, if it is to provide any political win for them, will be in people from the west no longer having to drive through roadwork which they have been doing for near on a decade. The project is not a good one and was given the green light for the wrong reasons.

Dan was much better at lying and blaming others and the scope of his failures wouldn't be felt for several years. Libs acting like cookers during a health crisis helped him too

It's a neither here nor there project IMO, over time people won't notice drastic changes to their commute. Unlike NEL or MRRT which is where the big wins should come from. That and more crossing removals.

It was weird, it was the wrong way around. he was negligent and potentially corrupt in his initial management of covid and arguably has blood on his hands (like scummo) but isn't blamed for that- is hated for generally doing the right thing after his initial failures.

On Andrews, it is worth noting that people don't like being locked down. It doesn't matter why when it happened so often, people will just get unhappy. Most of us have moved on, but there was always going to be people who never forgave.

I mean, it's a mistake, right? No one in their right mind would knowingly decide to charge people $5 to walk through two train stations just to get to a shopping centre.

As opposed to doing nothing? You would have the same complaints we had for years around infrastructure from the same people if we meandered along the same trajectory. Maybe that's ok for some people but not me. Cost is irrelevant to me it's the long term benefits that matter. What happens if we had cost blowouts building hospitals? Schools? Prisons to house all the people we are going to start locking up soon? Should we not do it because of cost blowouts? You would never have anything happen anywhere.

Everything has a value. Taxpayer's money shouldn't be so blithely thrown around like the cost of anything that might be deemed important is irrelevant as long as it gets built.
