You know what, it might just be that he's friends with that dickhead from Hamish & Andy.
Can't stand those two.
Thank the lord it’s not only me.

Used to shit me so much. Locked down for COVID in Victoria and I would realise a Gus and Gawn podcast had been released, take a beer out to the garden to have a listen and chill out only to find they had invited that dickhead Hamish onto the pod. Happened more than once. If I want to hear that guy crap on about himself I can just watch his terrible shows.

Don't really like either of them but if i had to pick my poison at least Hamish can actually be funny, would actually kill it doing improv on thank god your here back in the day, i can't deny that.

Andy always seemed to be the marketable pretty boy face of the two, being a strong Carlton man probably never helped in my books. Had a year as a reoccurring panellist on the footy show one year and it was Carlton this and Carlton that, this was shortly after Hughes had gone through the show doing the same bit but with that grating voice. Titus equally kind of shits me more when he jokes about us on TV

That all said, they seem to have a really good chemistry together but their youthful comedy style that made them fresh around the 2000s doesn't work so much now they're older. At least Hamish puts his bias Melbourne fc comedy on a pro Melbourne platform like the podcast so it doesn't annoy everyone under the sun. I actually had no idea he went for us until the podcast... Andy on the other hand made it very clear very early

Andy pulling Meghan Gale back in the day was one of the all time wins for a bloke
And then she dumped his sorry arse for some d-grade spud from Carlton lmao.

Both pretty harmless. Not overly funny but probably highlights the lack of younger comedians in the country. All the funny c***ts are still older blokes that were around before we all went pc.

Still think there are plenty of funny young people around, just the older more established are more likely to get gigs on traditional media like tv/radio and keeps them known. Just need to be a bit more involved in the scene/know where to look. Kinda the same with a lot of other things

Gawn surely now the third greatest Demon behond Ronald Dale and Robbie. Maybe anotgher AA and a flag would put him in the conversation with the other two, but I don't think he's at that level. Neitz IMO would be next. Could put a heap of others in the mix for #5. Plenty of the old guys we never saw live but we clearly had an amazing list. But I wouldn't be upset with Jimmy at #5. I don't think Trac or Oliver are in the top 5 imo.
I don't go on medals, or numbers of B&F's.

I go by how the players go against opponents and how they help and influence the team on-field over a long time.

Flower continually cleaned up opponents, time and again, and in SOO games he was even better.
Turning games from his own boots.

The only time i saw Robbie get beaten, was when he had to play on Malcolm Blight, at CHB, I think it was. Blight was too big and strong for Robbie, playing in that position.

Robbie regularly beat up on Ross Glendinning (CHB), whilst playing at CHF for the Dees.

I don't like Gawn but I can't find a reason why he's not considered our all-time greatest outside of Barassi... his career shits on Robbie Flowers.
Wow. I watched him over his career.

He is at the level of greatest ever Demon. Gawn isn't there, quite at that level.

He is better than the Saints Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera... who I see as very similar to west coasts former star... Peter Matera.
Robbie was a better rounded player than these guys.

Yeah this is how I feel.

Looking back, the Goody years, especially the last two, were fairly cultish. Don’t admit to failures on or off field, we know best, don’t question our method etc etc.

I reckon Gawn got told to toe the line in the media tbh.
Gawn has to kick the goals on a regular basis... and dominate against the best rucks of our lifetime. He's almost as good as Dean cox was.
Gawn is a remarkable player keeping fit to play as often as he does, and is a wonderful mark down the line.

But his play with ball in hand, and on the run shows his foibles.

He's not in the top 2 of demons. Oli is nowhere near it... and Tracca is inside the top 10

Yeah saying Gawn sh**s all over Robbie Flower is one of the more puzzling things I've seen in a long time. If Flower played in a side that won some flags he'd be considered one of the greatest of all time. Incredible talent. Because he was stuck in a club going absolutely nowhere his whole career, he's often looked over by some. I've never seen a Demon with more skill than this guy. Max clearly the best ruck of his generation, but in regards to pure talent, Robbie has him comfortably beaten, and I'm a huge Gawn fan.

Bloke on demonland compared Oliver to Ablett snr :$
That guy basically lives through Oliver. The irony is that he hates almost every other player from the club.

People think Danster's obsession with Oliver was bad but that demonland dude basically treats him as if he's Ghandi.

I do think though oddly, if Neitz had captained flags he would be rated a lot higher also but that's my opinion obviously

Depends what you value and how you attribute them, which is why these debates are never ending when you get to the standout contenders. Success, Skills, Games played, Statistical categories lead and so on. It's normally why I don't pick a best of all time

It's also hard with generational gaps. I never saw Robbie play in person and imo looking up highlights never quite fully encapsulates a player. A lot of people here never would have seen Barassi or Hassa play in person or highlights that aren't five seconds of newsreel footage so you're only left with their achievements in the game

idk where i'm going with these points, judging things are hard, not everyone goes with the consensus and everyone values different players differently based on what they value

I fully endorse these comments, having seen Flower play on countless occasions, he was a joy to watch, incredible talent in a team, (for the majority of the time) that was not worthy of him. Max is a great player, Robbie was other worldly.

lol come on redleg, is it even possible to have an obsession over a guy that won 2 x coaches votes awards and won 4 bnf's? His accolades do all of the talking.

Imagine proving the point you were trying to dismiss in a post

Oliver, Gawn, and Trac are top 10 Demons all time

Gawn is in the running for the greatest. He may well be #1.

The other two could have been in the running too but Oliver dropped off badly the last two seasons and is gone, and Trac is gone too.

I would have Trac ahead of Oliver all time.

I meant that you were tame compared with that demonland dude 🙂
:) I just reckon it's funny that I get slammed for obsessing over a 4 time bnf winner but heaven forbid I don't rate Harvey Langford as high as others. It just shows where the expectation level is at for a young player compared to established players I guess.

Then it's like 'you can't have early conclusions on a 1st year player'. But then draft season is here and everyone is like 'Cam Nairn looks like garbage'. Contradictions all over the place. Not from you. I'm just talking in generalities :)

We're way too precious as an industry. In the nba, players get booed on draft night when their name is called. And before someone says 'we shouldn't follow the nba', but we do. We even changed it from afl draft CAMP' to afl draft COMBINE' for no other reason than to copy the nba. Not to mention copying all of the graphics and having 'the pick is in' with a wind chime sound effect just like the nba does. Rant over :)

It's fine to not like a draft pick. When they have an excellent debut season and are universally highly rated, and you're still complaining about them because you don't want to be wrong, that's where people take issue.

Don't rate Harvey, man oh man, he just had the highest rated season by a first year player in history, should have won the rising star, if he was playing at Collingwood, the media would be calling him the greatest player of all time, had a better frist year then the untouchable protected species Nick, at this rate he will be better then trac, he can do all the things that truc can do, but he can kick, and is a dead eye goal kicker.
