Adelaide's Best EVER win 'Excluding Premierships'

Obviously we have strong candidates like our first ever finals win and some countless games where we have come from behind to snatch victory. No so much in recent years.

My candidate for our best ever win is hands down '1997 Preliminary Final' Come back win against the Western Bulldogs.

I remember this day vividly. My Grandfather had died this day in the morning and I remember at half time thinking to myself 'what a ****ing day' Only 17yo at the time.

Trailing by 31 points at half time I thought the match was as good as over. We never had a good track record of coming back and at 31 points I thought like probably everyone else the game was gone. Especially since Modra was stretched off with his knee, Liptak and Riccuito were out. My head was down. Even at the last change I was thinking to myself 22 points is a long way back.

But that last quarter comeback was epic. One of the best things I have ever seen. Imagine being their live. It would have been one of the best experiences outside of a premiership a Crows fan can have. So many ups and downs that day. Its a match I watch once a year along with the St Kilda Premiership.

Anyways, im sure everyone has their favourites.

I remember that game well.. it was hot day too for late August. bright eyed 10 year old kid i was haha red ball in the first half, yellow ball in the second half. i remember cutting up old white pages and taking a big plastic bag to chuck the papers up after a goal haha and yes, i too was chanting "we're in the finals"

Bogey side, superstar ex player, pressure on, and we destroyed them from the start.

Another one for the memory books.

Archer on Modra. Modra has 7 on him up until 3 qtr time including jumping on Fairleys shoulders in the 3rd qtr for his 7th. But North Melbourne at that time had dominated the year. They kicked 8 goals in the third qtr to lead by 26 points at 3 qtr time. Mods kicks another three in the last qtr to kick 10. We kick 6 goals to Norths 1 in the last qtr to win by two points. All though Mods third goal of the qtr he did push Archer straight in the back. Umpire was not brave enough to pay it with 48000 of us screaming.

The 2008 R3 showdown is the other one.
Basset knocked out. Jericho with the broken sternum from Brogan. Massie off with a hammy. Edwards groggy (no concussion protocols back then). Griffin was off injured for a bit. Porps on the field with a dislocated shoulder wrapped in his guernsey.
And you still lost you pack of talentless thugs. **** 'em.

Fitzroy.
Our third win in a row to start the season

We jumped Fitzroy in the first. But they came back in the 2nd. Fitzroy dominate third qtr kicking 7 goals. They got 6 goals ahead halfway through the third qtr.

Then enter Modra. Takes 3 amazing marks. Kicks 3 goals in five minutes at the end of third qtr. We then kick 3 to 2 in the last to win by David Pittmans Poster at the end.

Hard to go past our 2004 win against North Melbourne

An epic come from behind victory at home. Kangaroos were leading by 4 points at half time (score was 0.10 Adelaide to 1.8 North). We come out and blitz the scoreboard with a further 9 shots on goal to 3, putting us up by 7 points (2 goals 17 behinds to 2 goals 10 behinds at 3QT).

A frenetic last quarter where both sides score 3.2 and we take the win (5.19 to 5.12)

Honestly though, winning a showdown is the next best thing to winning a flag. And we get to do it twice in a year!

First Crows game I ever went to - We won tickets through SAFM

Don't remember a hell of a lot - but I do remember after Pittman kicked the poster and going a point up the crowd collectively just started saying 'siren siren siren' to finish the game and I was just a bit too daft and I was thinking 'THIS IS GREAT WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT IT TO END?!'

I do think I should clarify. Obviously there are good sensational wins and excellent come back wins. But that win against the bulldogs was a win of wins. It was an all or nothing game, both teams with everything to lose, huge injury losses to our best 21 at the time, down by 5 goals at half time. Nobody leaving the ground would have blamed us for dropping our bundle and the dogs cruise away. This is why I say it was the best win of all time.

Those saying the showdown win in 2022 with Dawsons kick after the siren, forget or are unaware 1997 2nd Showdown had us come from behind in the wet to steal it at the death. Was at the game. Brilliant.

The 1998 semi final probably needs more love.

For pretty much any other Crows team in our 35 year existence, it would have been a white flag, surrender game, and out in straight sets.

Thrashed by Melbourne in week 1, the club's highest profile player dropped and humiliated, playing away in tough conditions. We even got reamed by the umps.

Vardy with one of the all time finals performances that night.

Wish I was old enough to really appreciate it at the time.
