Disappointing end but a lot of cricket to be played.

If someone gets a good ton we're right in it.

Our batting has been poor in the last couple of seasons but I think Labs, Smith, Green and Head seem to have turned the corner.

Weatherald could score a few. Carey handy. Inglis helps us bat deeper.

We're not the out of form outfit we were a year ago I reckon.

The other thing is if we stick it out we're less likely to face too many overs with a new ball tomorrow night because the poms traditionally have terrible over rates as well.

I think the poms are ahead but if we wear their bowlers down we're still a good chance.

Luckily we won’t have Doggett again with Pat back soon
I think that was part of the issue, outside Starc and at times Boland everybody else lacked penetration to really cause any concern for a player of Root's stature. Take Starc's wickets away and the run out the others took 2 wickets between them. Cummins and Hazlewood is a totally different proposition. Both bowl faster and get bounce. We need them badly.

Silly finish after getting back into the game (and perhaps even getting in front)

Root was brilliant all day, England seemed to throw wickets away whenever they got on top. We were made to pay for being scared of batting a 15 minute period under lights and they runs they added could definitely be the difference

Still Starc or bust for our bowling attack. Might need to take 50 wickets for us to win the Ashes

A bowling lineup of Doggett, Neser and Boland is disgraceful let’s be honest.

All state level players at best and we’re lucky Starc has found another gear.

Missing Cummins and Hazlewood big time and worrying for when they finally hang it up.

They’re all very short term options. The next wave will be better. You could put Jhye, Bartlett and O’Neill out of the A game and expect them to fair better.

Still don't reckon 325 is that good of a score from England

They were 4-200. Yes they collapsed and we leaked runs at the end, but from that position earlier in the day, they absolutely should have been making 125 from the remaining 6 wickets.

Very little movement from the ball after the first 20 overs and basically nothing in the pitch. Had we bowled them out for 260 we would have been miles in front. 350 is probably par

Yes, happened under Paine, Cummins, Smith, Langer, McDonald. These blokes are paid 100's of thousand of dollars not to see things that us mugs on the couch can see as obvious. Frustrating day, poor captaincy, poor bowling, bar Starc, poor team selection. Whatever could be poor, bar Starc, was poor. Now a 61 run 10th wicket partnership when we could've had them out for 270. Having the field out for Archer, watching balls fall into places 50m from the fielder because they were all on the fence.
It’s the old setting fields for poor bowling and trying to predict where the ball is going to land rather than just setting a standard field and waiting for an edge or one straight up in the air.

Yeah this is why I don’t rate the Root 100 nor Englands batting lineup.

Been very lucky this series, winning both coin tosses and facing state bowlers, yet still find themselves chasing the series.

It was a sublime innings from an all time great of the game.

Richardson breaks down more often than an English fast bowler.

And the other two are worse Shield bowlers than Doggett, so how would they improve the line up?

It's the mindset of not wanting to bat and making it obvious that everyone watching knows it.

What's worse? Chasing 280 and being 1/10

or going out to bat tomorrow chasing 340 if we are lucky.

And also do bowlers really want to warm up and go out just to bowl 2 overs.

As people have mentioned if so then Stokes would have declared.
