Your ignorance towards this basic fact doesn't make it any less of a fact.

You live and work in a country and own a house there, regardless of whether you are naturalised, for nearly 30 years pretty much means you are essentially a citizen.

He was not Australian. He was not a citizen. Fact.

As I said to you a few days ago.. my mother moved here from the uk when she was 18.. had three kids, owned property and businesses.. but didnt bother getting naturalised until in her late 60’s.. she’s been an Aussie for a fxxkn long time now regardless of when she went through with the ceremonial fanfare.

Comparing your British mum to these people is hilarious. Your mum brought Spotted Dick. These people brought death, destruction and mayhem.

The son of the bondi shooter was born and bred here.. please tell us all that you think he wasnt an Aussie so we can all have yet another laugh at your expense.. you give us all so many great laughs as it is.. one more wont hurt Petey!

The son, yes, is an Australian, on paper at least.

As I said earlier, that only underscores how baked-in the problems become with the wrong type of immigration.

Birthright citizens who hate the country, subscribe to less than zero of its values and go on to kill people.

Great. Fantastic endorsement for immigration from third world countries. Not only are we importing people who hate the country, their Australian citizen kids will also hate the country. Bonus.

But, they're giving it a damn good shot ;)
What they will do is introduce laws banning hate speech against ALL forms of racism, hate and bigotry.. not just anti-semitism..

And then lets see the LNP back out of voting for them in Parliament.

Like I said.. the LNP will over cook this and back themselves into a massive corner. The biggest self wedge is coming for these LNP morons and they are blindly walking headlong into it.. all in a desperate attempt to get a boost in the polls.

The LNP flatly refused, when last in government federally, to make changes to 18c.. because, as George “Soapy” Brandis put it at the time.. “bigots should be allowed the right to be bigots!”

And also because the LNP’s religious backers at the time knew that it would put them in danger of being prosecuted for their hate speech and bigotry toward the LGBTIQ community.

ALL racism, bigotry and hate needs to stop.. not just antisemitism.

This will be the angle the Albanese government will use to finally get the 18c changes through.. and probably even stronger one’s than have been proposed in the past.

The hard right, who rallied so hard against the “Black lives matter” cause with their “all lives matter” retort is gonna look very contradictory and hypocritical if they try and say its just antisemitism we should be forming policy against and not ALL racism, bigoty and hate..

Ignorant racist muppets like this bloke are very quickly going to find themself on the wrong side of the law..

Perhaps, but in order to reduce the likelihood of it happening again you have to be able to form government, as those currently in charge have zero interest in that goal.
How so?

How can they bald face lie about the basic facts that the bondi shooters were Australians?.. a father that came here nearly 30 years ago and his son who is a born and bred Aussie.
Sajid Akram was not and never was an Australian, he maintained hiis Indian citizenship right up to the time he massacred innocent Jewish Australians. He had ample opportunity to take up Australian citizenship like millions of immigrants over the years, hell even when Tony Burke put out an all points bulletin before the last election to all eligible immigrants this cretin didn't take it up.

Because you can learn things from the experiences of other countries.

And you go around calling other people “ignorant”. Man oh man.
But Petey, this conversation is about Australia and Australian politics.. see the heading of the thread.. it’ll give you a clue..

The issue that's already been raised is, what will be the definitions in the legislation, defining racism, hate, bigotry ect .....it's a minefield of generalisms

It could end up being a lot of hot air .....and then of course the cost of policing the new laws .....do we think additional expenditure will be allocated, or as expected, the policing to be absorbed within existing budgets

He’d been here nearly 30 years..

And why don't you mention his son in your comment Bicks?..

Oh.. thats right.. it tears your racist garbage argument to shreds.

Oh gee, I don’t know Wayne.. How about we tax religion. Religion is the cause of this.. so maybe religion can help pay for the attempts at finding some of the cures?..

Maybe its about time we asked for these religions to fund the solutions to the problems their bullshit 2000 year old fairytales have caused?..

George Carlin was right.

I find it to be hypocritical to publicly launch these "gun buy back" schemes for political expediency .......both parties have been in power, whilst gun ownership has doubled since Port Arthur .....doubled !

So what have these schemes achieved, other than costing taxpayers .....whilst at the same time, our Hospitals require more funding

Fact is these schemes are designed to appease upset voters, up until the next issue arises ......a few months is the length of our focus

Remember after 9/11 ...we were to get Air Marshalls on every plane flight, plus secured cockpit doors ......well, how long did that last .....actually, I don't think those declarations were ever followed thru on ?

They do have secured cockpit lock doors if you hadn’t noticed.

The issue with air marshalls on planes is them being armed, not good idea to have guns on planes.

And just on hospitals, you could give them $50b more and they would still want more - and specialists would just increase their charges.

3 million people have migrated to Australia, mostly under LNP governments, in the past 25 years…

about 2, maybe 3, of them have been involved in terror attacks in Australia.

The problem isn't immigration and anyone that tells you it is, is fukn lying to you mostly for their own political means and ends.

What did George Carlin say?

It is another red herring but it is expected by those with racist views.

And it hasn’t dawned in a few or refuse to believe it but antisemitism has increased since I don’t know, October 7th 2023. It is one of the reasons.

And the Coalition was in government for 20 of the past 29 years - what did they ever do to limit immigration? The hypocrisy knows no bounds - net immigration over past 44 years

Let's set the record straight on this .....firstly, most wars thru history have been because of religion .....the fanatics dominate all religions

When I was getting married, we did not tell my grandmother, my future wife was Catholic .....you just didn't mix religions back then .....and I was conscious of everyone's religious background & how it impacted their attitudes
In fact, I could only get married in a Catholic Church IF I signed papers saying any children would be raised as Catholics

Fast-forward, religion in the west now, IMHO is largely a non-event, particularly the young generations ....so is that good or bad ...well, I'm a COE converted to athiest, so maybe not the best to ask

However, my POV is .....religion provided people with a moral compass, which was reinforced by the family unit ....no social event ever occurred without input and commentary by the church
The events of the Catholic Church have now buried their relevancy

IMO one of the major social issues nowadays is this lack of moral compass, which work hand in hand with the laws of the land .....who provides that now ?

Whether you agree or not with the merits of different religions, and most would disagree .....Hinduism, and the various forms of Islam, do provide their followers with a life code of beliefs and conduct

Given the event & number of deaths & injuries, i would have thought a commonwealth royal commission is warranted.

Need to take all steps necessary to try & prevent this from happening again.

Yes Minister had the answer 40 years ago

" Never set up an inquiry unless you know in advance what its findings will be."

I'm a cynic as I get older ........ where Childrens Hospital Telethons were "originally" to be in addition to normal hospital funding ...... I'm suspicious that the funds raised now, largely replace a proportion of normal operational funding .....call me crazy

Key Australian Children's Hospital Telethons in 2024

  • Good Friday Appeal (Melbourne):
    • Result: Raised a record $23,368,724 for The Royal Children's Hospital.
    • Focus: Funding research, equipment, education, and care programs, with significant support from regional Victoria.
    • Highlights: Featured stars like Guy Sebastian, Human Nature, and Channel 7 personalities.
  • Telethon (Perth):
    • Result: Raised over A$83 million, a record for the WA event.
    • Focus: Supporting over 100 beneficiaries, including a major $135.5 million donation for children's cancer research over 10 years.
    • Highlights: Included celebrity performances and major donations from businesses like Hancock Prospecting.
Remember when we were taxed 4 cents a litre for the purpose of road maintenance .....and then discovered it simply went into consolidated revenue ....and road maintenance continued to be given scant regard

I think its termed getting wiser with age.

The longer you live on the planet the more cynical you become.

Look, just my opinion Wayne.. but.. If anyone needs a religion to provide them with their “moral compass”.. then their moral compass is pretty dodgy from the start..

Religion, when it comes to morality, basically teaches that all is good if you are a complete prick to someone or something.. all you need to do is just ask this fairy in the sky for forgiveness after it and all will be well.

And then.. as long as you are good (mostly).. you’ll gain entry to this place called heaven when you die!..

So… basically.. dont be good just for the sake of being good and cause its good to be a good person.. no.. be good to get yourself a reward in return!

How the **** is that anyway of teaching someone morality?

Nothing is more morally bankrupt than this utter nonsense.

Victoria

I heard 90% of the road maintenance budget for Victoria was dragged back to help reduce the GINORMOUS DEBT of Victoria ......I can't recall if it was 2 or 3 years budget allocation

There's a 5KM road joining Greensborough to Diamond Creek, which was undrivable over that time ........your tyres couldn't survive the trip

Strange Govt call, given if someone died ....you knew there'd be a substantial lawsuit coming

As more information comes to hand it was very fortunate there weren't many more dead and injured if the 3 pipe bombs and a tennis ball bomb had detonated when thrown into the crowd as well as a large IED.

Bondi Beach terror attack: Police facts tendered in court case shed new light on alleged gunmen

Police facts tendered to court in the first mention of alleged Bondi Beach terrorist Naveed Akram have shed new light on how cops think he and his father planned the massacre.

olice allege a dead terrorist and his son “meticulously” planned the horrific Bondi attack claiming 15 lives - conducting weapons training in country NSW, recording ISIS-inspired videos, and two days prior under cover of darkness scoping out a footbridge used.
Counter-terrorism detectives will also allege 24-year-old Naveed Akram and his father Sajid threw a number of bombs into the crowd they attacked but they did not detonate, a 22-page police document released by a NSW court reveals.

It reveals the pair had allegedly spent months preparing before the appalling massacre at the Chabad of Bondi’s Chanukah by the Sea event on Bondi’s beachfront.

On December 12 – two days before the nightmare unfolded – police allege CCTV depicts Naveed and Sajid travelling to Archer Park at Bondi Beach in darkness. The pair walk along the footbridge where they are later alleged to have unleashed gunfire on the unsuspecting crowd. “Police allege this is evidence of reconnaissance and planning of a terrorist act,” the document states. Two days later, at 2.16am on December 14, CCTV allegedly captured Naveed and Sajid loading multiple weapons, bombs and Islamic State flags into a silver Hyundai Elantra parked at an Airbnb they had rented in Campsie.
All up, they allegedly loaded into the car two single barrel shotguns, a Beretta rifle, homemade improvised explosive devices(IEDs) – including three pipe bombs, a tennis ball bomb, and a large IED – with two Islamic State flags.

By 5.09pm, they left in the car for Bondi.

At 5.58pm, CCTV taken in part from the Sydney Chevra Kadisha - the Jewish funeral home where a devastated community farewelled many of their dead – captures the Hyundai turning off Oxford St, Centennial Park and stopping for almost 20 minutes on Ocean St, Woollahra.
The police document also alleges: “Upon approach to the footbridge, investigators believe the three pipe bombs and tennis ball bomb were thrown towards the crowd in Archer Park. It is unclear at this time, whether accused (Naveed) or S Akram threw the improvised explosive devices.”

Preliminary analysis indicates the pipe bombs were made of sealed aluminium piping with explosive, black powder, and steel ball bearings. A subsequent raid at the Campsie Airbnb uncovered a firearm scope, ammunition, a suspected IED, Sajid’s driver’s licence, his Hunting Association membership card, 3D-printed parts for a shotgun speed loader, a rifle, a shotgun, firearm parts, bomb-making equipment, and two copies of the Koran.
