Yeah, so funny that there's this lovely movie and then...that in the middle of it.
Would you like me to pull the nom out spinynorman ?
Certainly was intended as a fun, accessible track, and not to offend people.
Happy to change. I had two other noms I was going with as well...

And

When did the theme become Jazz?
When did Plonka become Plonka?
How high the moon?
Somewhere there's music....how near how far...

Sorry, that comment of mine your quoted was about Breakfast at Tiffany's! No, don't change, I wasn't claiming offence!!

I'm not sure why the results are being given in the middle of the night, but I'll set my alarm, and I'll be sure to be present for the voting.

Well it's 48 hours from release which is pretty standard.
Also it's a deadline nothing more.
If people pull their finger out and bote then who knows just how early yu will be able to get to bed

Preliminary results update
A new batch of botes has turned things on its head!!!

Now in last place we have Tigerat2020 with zero botes and TWO billies
Did you even check the submissions? Isn’t it your responsibility to reject noms?

I wasted a good song on a jazz round which is not a bloody jazz tune bc of you 🙄

One of my votes was for a non-jazz song! It’s possible that it being different to the rest made it stand out even more.

I can give an HM for the song you would have entered if it helps?😉

I am loving all the ai covers that I’m hearing but I’m not a musical purist like most on here and can appreciate the art of electronically made music.
The fact that AI can make tracks as well as it can, albeit a little souless, is pretty cool. The main issue at least personally is that the AI is trained off real music and there's no royalties or even acknowledgement to the original artist. I'm also fairly certain the definition of art always makes a point to call it human expression so anything AI cannot really be called art.

I was messing around with one of the song AI and if you're specific enough in your prompts the AI will spit out tracks with entire beats or riffs just straight lifted from actual songs. That's not cool. That would be grounds for a lawsuit for a human. About a month ago Warner reached a settlement with one of the AI so now the AI can legally use the voices of artists that opt in. That's both a positive and negative step I reckon.

Billy hunting is a ****ing lazy venture to begin with, if you're just going to submit AI then what are you doing? Put some actual effort in. It's easy enough without resorting to slop. Host should just reject them really. If you want to listen to them solo, fine, but in a comp up against actual artists it shouldn't be allowed.

But it is cool that computers can do it. In a decades time it's going to be scary good and maybe our attitudes will have shifted with it.

I dunno, aside the issues you raise, part of my enjoyment with art is that it's a personal communication between artist and audience, and if you follow their lives you can see how their attitudes change, both philosophically and artistically. For some of the prolific GOATs, think of Picasso's evolution from Blue Period to Rose Period to Africa to cubism to surrealism and beyond, or Jean-Luc Godard's post-May 1968 shift to revolutionary cinema, or Dylan from folk to protest music to electric to the 1970s ups and downs to Christian music to the 1990s comeback and bluesy styles (or, sticking with the jazz theme, Miles Davis' shifts into bop and then into jazz funk fusion and then into the 1980s and that dare I call it muzak Time After Time cover that's in this playlist, but then his experimentations with hip hop shortly before his death). Part of that artist's journey and their own individual idiosyncracies is what I love, and AI almost by definition can't offer that.

It's also that context that gives meaning - Highway 61 Revisited is in part so revered an album because of what it means in Dylan's life and artistry, Godard's 1970s films are just totally foreign and confusing objects if you're not familiar with his 1960s.

I'm on your side, Norm. All that goes without saying. I'm just mean with the rapid progress it made in a year, by a decade from now its going to be able to fool people way more than it currently does. I might not like it but it's cool what technology can do, it'd be cooler if we were doing anything of worth but can't win em all.

There's already plenty of people now that have no issue with it, I think it's timbaland that's currently pushing an AI "artist". A decade from now that's probably not going to get better. There will still be holdouts but the better it gets, the more it will be accepted.

I’m just enjoying hearing songs I previously liked being made into different versions through genre changes by ai. I would hope royalties get back to the original artist but am not sure if that is likely or not. It will be interesting to see it progress to a point where an ai artist or band is created , would people go to a concert that has holograms performing ai music?
