Really?

Nankervis as PS draft (ie last pick in the ND), Taylor (44), Keane (SSP), Nick Murray (SSP).

The table also misses Worrell after Schoenberg in the 2nd round under Don Pyke
Neither Taylor or Nankervis are regulars though. They could easily be delisted in the next year or so.

Taylor played 17 games last year, including the last 10, and only 5 in the SANFL.

That's a regular to me

You might be right, but he’s been on the list long enough now that due to his output he could still easily be a trade or delist.

Has done really well since from Dawson onwards. Since then the only negative is arguably the lack of genuine high end mid traded in, but this is a bit unfair as those types of players it's far easier said than done. Our midfield situation is more on our drafting than trading.
It's more on our drafting than trading. Trades are not something that is totally in the club's control and teams don't usually just give up gun midfielders. I do wonder how much of it is a development issue though. We've invested a lot of decent picks into our midfield and I wonder how some of those blokes would have developed in a different system.

I'll be keeping a close eye on Schoenberg at the Eagles. If they turn him into a decent player, that's a huge red flag.

Been with us for a decade, a good time for change and fresh ideas
Not sure about that.

Last 5-6 years have been exceptional, possibly best in league (his first 3-4 years were questionable)

Dawson - bargain
Rankine - good unders price paid for anyone understanding his quality
Keays/Keane/Hinge/Murray/Hately - free
ANB and Peatling - approx fair value, certainly not overs
Cumming - free
Ah Chee - free

Has re-signed EVERY elite young player this decade.

Crows have always been best, or close to, for pick swaps. Many instances inc 2018 Blues pick swap, 2023 Curtin and the extra first rounder from GWS for sliding 2 possies (2019 IIrC)

Losing Reid and Burgess are possibly 2 of our biggest competitive advantages

Great job Reidy and will see if I can sneak in the beers with him he has offered before he moves on.

You don’t get Pies and AFL house chasing you if you are a dud. Interesting to see how it plays out and if we poach anither gun footy manager

Even then, it’s not on him. His job is to contact the agents to see who’s available and for what. The committee would then decide whether, say Petracca, is worth that much of the cap and approximate trade value. Reid’s job is then to negotiate the outcome within the parameters provided by the full committee. It’s not on him that trades fall through when the asking prices are too high, particularly with contracted players and trade value.

I reckon that’s more situational, him and Pedlar would be first out if both Rachele or Rankine were available. Add Ah Chee and if we had a full list to choose from, I’d be pretty confident he’d be in the 2s. A ‘regular’ to me is someone who will play when fit, no matter who else is available. That’s not Taylor in my view. Nank played 20 the year before, so based on your metrics, he was a regular going into 2025.

Has there been any names floated yet as a possible replacement?

Reckon it’s a not complicated job, but you need to have a background in player values. You’d immediately have access to ours, which would get you started, but you’d think they’ll be looking at an ex-agent or someone that’s been involved with player contracts at a couple of clubs.

He showed some promising signs with us, but we don’t have a lot of patience for inconsistency from developing mids. We revert to the Keays, Laird and Sloane’s whenever the opportunity arose.

You do know that with Reid leaving with 9 months in the soft cap year it may open up even more money.

He was list manager for 11 years, wouldn't have been on rookie money.

Unless we bring in someone who would demand the sort of money Reid was on. Which I wouldn't rule out as it's a job that Reid did from Melbourne.

Are you suggesting Reid resigning now impacted a decision made months ago? To be honest, it’s largely an administrative and negotiating role. Agents with players that are prepared to leave will be contacting the club, any idiot can field those phone calls and add the name to a list that the LM committee considers. We can go most of the season without a replacement.

With respect to your front loading crusade, have you taken into account that we added a high value coaching director to the group without anyone departing? Maybe we had to backload him to fit him into the 2025 soft cap.

Front loading decision is unrelated to Reid leaving, just saying more money has opened up.

Good point about Davis., though the other thing that I also missed initially was the soft cap went up 400k in '25, no one needs to leave to fit him in. Doesn't mean he wasn't backloaded as well. Starting in '26, 20% of Davis' salary does not fall under the cap, so we are actually getting better bang for your buck by doing this.

awful to begin with, did some good work in the past few years, even with some rolled gold that fell in his lap

has it been said what he's doing at the AFL?
That's my take... the first couple of years were pretty rough (deserving of a "Sack Reid" avatar), but after that he's been damn good as he's grown into the role.

This will be a loss to the club... and I never thought I would say that after his first 12 months. Being poached by AFL House is a pretty good addition to his CV.
