Also interesting Byrnes preferred as a starting hbf.
Good to see how the team ends up for round one - it's just a practice match but it's so important to work out the best set up for us going forward,
The starting lineup , will be far from what we eventfully field in round one.

Just let those guys play vfl and build confidence , they’re chance will come

Butler
Howard
Clark

Three guys who have been in our best 23 over the last 5 years. All emergancirs. All spots given to youngster.

Shows our depth plus development. Love Ross picking
Hugh And backing in the pups even banners.

Loving that team. Especially Keeler retaining his spot over Doug (better to get some more experience into Isaac, as the one keeping the spot warm for Silvagni, rather than “waste it” on Dougal, who already has ample experience) and the return of Mason Wooooddddd!

This would probably be the closest we’ve been to full strength for a game of any kind since 2020.

Hopefully we stay that way going into R1.
Keeler was named as a sub like Tobie and Collard and benefited from JSOS getting a knock which is why he played back.

Hoping to see him forward with one of the rucks a bit this week. Really feel like two genuine keys is a better structure then just Marshall and a bunch of undersized keys.

I’d like to see that too but I think we’ll want to mainly stick with the structure that we’ll have in OR, which means Keels will play mostly back, and up forward we’ll have Ro/TDK and Sharman, Owens and maybe Wood.

I think this will especially be the case given Essendon have gone tall up forward.

2MP, 198cm May, Caddy and Langford.

We’ll need Keeler on one of those first two.

I actually think he has a lot of potential down back. Especially if there isn’t room for him up forward, if we have Max, and a Ro/TDK/Dodson there, going forward.

Keeler named in the VFL squad so may not be expecting to play minutes. Am sure he will be there in case though.
Banfield the same.

Could imagine Wood on restricted minutes after interrupted pre-season so may only play second half

Grandad: Well Tommy you're just going to have to understand that our mighty Saints have brought in some gun players from other clubs and our youth are really starting to develop nicely so tough decisions will have to be made. Some players will just have to make way.

Tommy: You mean like Jack Steele, Grandad?

Grandad: Yes indeed Tommy. Although Jack was an All Australian and had been our captain for quite some time, unfortunately progress dictates that we just couldn't promise him a spot in our midfield.

Tommy: And Ryan Byrnes, Grandad?

Grandad: How dare you!... go and wash your mouth out with soap you little f*cker and never speak ill of the great Ronnie again or you'll be back in foster care so fast your head will spin.

Bloody Byrnes 😂 😂

Prove us wrong and tear it up Ronnie.

There's only 1 player in recorded history that has covered more ground in a game than byrnes.

Real competition for spots is a beautiful thing- his disposal is no longer the liability it was.
There is a wide open opportunity for him to become one of those elite lyon role players in a top 4 team.

We should be cheering him on- because if he's forcing himself into the team, it means he's performing better than some very good young players.

Did Byrnes play HBF in the last practice? Feel like we will play all around as required but not necessarily as a full time HBF.
