Is there any truth to the story that the VAFA umpires very nearly went on strike in 1998 over a leading field umpire not being appointed by the VAFA Umpires Appointments Panel to do the A Section Grand Final despite the fact he had done the SA v Vic game at Woodville, and was instead assigned to the C Section Grand Final between Beaumaris and Hampton Rovers?

Aren't you advocating for OMs to be kicked off Elsternwick?
It's the VAFA ground not theirs , SWTF has it got to do with Ormond who's been on their ground for 94 years

VAFA are a tenant of the Bayside council. Just like OM’s. No matter what my personal views on the venue, I have no issue with a club (any club) using the ground for football. Just don’t get the angst about OMs using it. Would you rather it just sat idle?

There might be an instance like what might happen in Albert Park this year with footy delayed for a couple of Months , there are always plenty of disruptions at grounds all over the VAFA and there is a facility at Port Melbourne

Ormond are a tenant, just like OMs. OMs needed a new home when cricket took over the Junction.
Clubs hated playing home games at EP so as Jimmy stated, it would sit idle for most weeks.
All government funding for upgrades etc are tied to a local club tenancy not the VAFA. The VAFA do quite well having OMs there.
How many Old Boys clubs actually play at the former school?? I can think of only about 8 out of about 30. Should the other 22 be kicked off as well??

Is this year different for some reason? I ask as my club is playing at Harry Trott Round 1. Yes the GP is a nightmare for Albert Park based clubs, but they have been dealing with that for 30 years. OMs use EP for 9 Saturday’s a year. Plenty of scope to use EP if required but clubs generally hate playing there. If necessary (and I'm not sure it is) I think impacted clubs would prefer playing a few away games early in season and catch up on home games in the back half of the year.

I know all about Albert Park and have for decades.
This year the GP are taking extra time , maybe 2 weeks more than normal and cricket clubs were thrown off earlier , it's getting worse and won't be long until infrastructure is left up
AP was set up for sporting and recreation use due to being no real outdoor space between Port Melbourne and St Kilda

No argument from me about any of that. A nightmare for tenant clubs every year.

Does the VAFA have an issue on its hands with D3? Only 6 clubs will play as a number have decided it is best for them to have a year or two in the Thirds comp.

With the off-field issues at Box Hill North over the summer and subsequent player suspensions, whispers are rife that the club itself will be lucky to field two sides, with a potential of folding or merging.

We already had a lopsided fixture last season and having cricket scores kicked on you each week most likely facilitated clubs requesting to play thirds in 26'.

If BHN do step away, the Ammos surely can't have a 5 team grade.

If it goes down to 5 I suspect it'll be a 12 team D1 and 13 team D2. Or if it goes down to 4 then 12/12

You make perfect sense but surely it can't change at this late stage??
A few on here would start having conniptions if the draw was to change....
Not for this season.

BHN and Eley Park would make sense if both/either needed to merge, they're only 8 minutes apart.
