Review R1: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Collingwood

It was either 3 years at $500K for RoB (likely on less for this 3rd year) or 6 years at $700-750K for Draper. I recall reading some Brisbane posters wanted RoB over Draper. McAndrew was good in the SANFL last year so he was always a chance to overtake RoB especially with the rule change suiting how he plays so the 3rd year was bad but then would you prefer 6 years at $700K for Draper instead????
I guess there's that - things could be SOOOOO much worse than they are now!

Maybe Soligo out Rankine in?

Solly to get some more run back into his legs in the SANFL trial against South?

Darcy appeared to play the chop out ruck role for English in the bit I watched of the Doggies game?

It wasn’t either/or, we were actively chasing Draper long term whilst offering ROB 2 years. We caved to ROB’s demands once Draper was off the table. It won’t be cheap either, he had leverage.

Ugly: Fox commentary whinging about the tightening of the 50m penalty, after telling us for three years how important it is for the game.
Collingwood players tried to game the rule by running an extra man back instead of standing the mark, the exact reason the rule is in place, and got caught.
Emotions got the better Kingy, but he a commentator that lives off big calls so he can't back down when wrong, so will probably keep up the whinging all week.

So Toby Murray was given 32% game time. The next lowest out of the other 45 players on the ground was Soligo with 60%. McStay with 62% was the lowest time on ground for Collingwood.

Can we really afford to have someone sitting on the pine for 2/3 of the match?
Reckon they were just easing him in. The kid is super raw still

Murray for mine, or Pedlar who just looked like a guy who'd lost his role when the others came back in.

I thought we only offered RoB a 2 year contract when Draper was gone which was why he was able to ask for the 3rd year??? Pretty shit list management to have 2 Ruckmen on $500K and $700-750K of your salary cap.

Can anyone explain why Collingwood got rid of Mihocek? Their tall forward stocks are now abysmal and they got nothing for him
He was getting slow. What continues to blow me away is Collingwood’s decade long refusal to spend draft capital on key position players.

Just on that how did Draper of the Lions variety go against the Swans?

And any news on Draper of the Crows variety as to what his injury was sustained against Central's in the SANFL hit out! Looked good early before that.

till will tell. but you have been surprised already this year with stretch over rob havent you?

Absolutely I have, it’s unbelievably refreshing. But it is a rare situation with the rule changes. Laird is still doing what he’s done for a while and his replacement isn’t as obvious. Yes, Hinge might come back in, but that is more likely to see Bond out as it stands.

I think its a horses for courses thing..itll work sometimes and sometimes theres no need for it.

I'll be very interested to see who comes out for Rankine.

The Dogs have enormous run from defence so even 3 talls might be too many, let alone 4.

Pedlar out, lazy, ineffective, doesn't present enough. What does he actually do? He's been around long enough to perform at a lot higher level. I'm sick of people sticking up for him and saying he's got potential, it's rubbish, we want a consistent high level performance. I know people say he plays on a starvation H/F flank, but if he showed more endeavour he would be rewarded with better opportunities. Definitely not in my best 23. Can't wait for Rankine to replace him.

The fact there hasn't been a report hopefully is good news. If we could get Sid going second half of the year our side look better.

Charlie West will be a very good KPF capable of chopping out in ruck....they just need to get games into him at AFL level.

Must be minor, no mention of it on the report.

We had the 2 years on the table for ROB for most of the year. He wouldn’t sign because he wanted 3. We were still into Draper a long way in.

Given he no longer has the 300 games to aim for, he should be getting plenty of rest this year.

Why?

He’s arguably our 2nd or 3rd best key forward. He plays every game until someone comes along and shows they are better.

We are up to our eye balls aiming for a premiership and we must play our best 23 every week.

He had a decent pre season without the Ah Chees, Peatlings, etc of the world but last night he looked off again

Id give him another week even with Rankine

Not sure they'll drop Bondy.

We tend to go like for like, therefore its probably Soligo or Pedlar.

Don’t see the point not playing Soligo. If we played him off the back of his preseason, surely you play him off it plus 1 game. And he was pretty good in his 60%. Dialling him up at AFL level is surely better than cruising around in an SANFL trial. Had Pedlar been good, maybe there’s an argument.

Do you think he will be better than Toby Murray? As I said preseason, I'm not convinced he's an AFL player.
Yes I do, I think Charlie West is going to be very good but unlike you I think Toby Murray has an AFL future as at least decent depth especially with Tex nearing the end and ROB's age. Ludowyke may eventually be Tex's replacement but that's likely a few years off yet. I thought Murray when in the ruck was more than competitive last night considering his experience at the level.

Why don’t you just say, “I hate him” and be done with it instead of inventing a bullshit reason that just shows you have zero idea what you are talking about.

Pedlar played his role last night and kicked a very important goal at a key time.

Leave your personal bias at the front door.
