He had a few 1 on 1 opportunities but just can't clunk them atm. Hopefully that improves

Hopefully with better Delivery makes it easier for him

Did you see Charlie play in VFL games last year?
I'd rather see him playing and getting experience than wait for McStay to sort himself out.
Charlie kicked some bags last year - not sure how much more he needs to do.
I'm sure his preseason this year has focused on his fitness and endurance, but his key strengths are things we desperately need if the showings of McStay and Membrey in particular are anything to go by.

I reckon they'll drop membrey for west

Trouble is we already lack firepower and he is 1 or only 2 forwards we have who have a good history in scoring. Who kicks the goals?

Good point. I'm clutching at straws atm. Hopefully we get more out of our key forwards.

Surely West has to produce some form, take some marks and kick goals, preferably lots of them, before he is elevated. From what I have seen of him in practice games, he didn't look as though he is ready to step into the team and be the instant answer to our tall forward problems. We need to temper our expectations, then be pleasantly surprised if the player produces more than we anticipated.
Not sure why? Buller has no runs on the board either. Let buller go back and show he has something, West demonstrated his wares last year

I'm more surprised that people think Buller was going to make a difference.

Occasionally a reject turns into a decent player, but in most instances, they go the way of Cameron Cloke.

Maybe the optimism stems from picking Cameron up from the Swans i.e. the hope that Buller will be Cameron Mk2, going from rags to riches as a player in a couple of years. Which is what we need to happen if we are to enjoy success in the next few years. Someone to exceed expectations of them and go to another level. Like perhaps Steel at times is threatening to do.

Maybe Buller needs to be individually mentored and monitored by an acknowledged legend of the tall forward game. We'd have to import one. We don't really have any of our own. I wouldn't want to pay Travis to be his coach and mentor, but I suspect you are right that Buller could as easily be another Cameron Cloke as a Wayne Carey. Much more easily really.

If only people had realistic expectations like this on most of the late picks we have as kids. The screams for us to “just give them a run of games” might stop

Some of you… Jesus we are two games in.
Jack will be fine, he can play and he’ll get much better game by game.
I reckon Wayne Carey would struggle in our side with the putrid delivery and dysfunctional system going forward.
The real worry is McStay who’s is glacial slow.
The 3 years Checkers wanted was not realistic and still isn’t, Cox I would have kept.
West shows plenty and Howes too.
I dont think it’s the doom and gloom some predict.
We have always been unconventional in scoring but always found a way.
We will be fine.

We usually are for all the sound and fury. Fine, that is.

Why are some so worried about this kid this early. He's competing pretty decently and showed some promising signs at the swans.

Are we forgetting how hard it seems to be to adapt to Fly's system? Both Houston and Schultz struggled, now imagine being a 12 gamer and having to adapt to that new system at a new club. Take a breather guys, lol. Hopefully the selection panel are more level headed and give him a solid chance to settle in and get some games under his belt, it's gotta start somewhere. Do we want to see development or not?

Exactly! It could take one or two games where our forwards get a lick and he kicks a couple of bags and then gets going. Sometimes that’s all it takes.

Because he might be holding back West who has had a year in Fly's system.

Are we better playing West and having Buller play VFL to learn the system?

Bizarre isn't it? Everyday people complain about Fly not giving players enough games to adapt to our system, whilst simultaneously writing off a player in his 2nd game with us.

That's a fair way to see it, you'd just hate to see potential experience and development of Buller going by the wayside in favor of an older, under performing forward staying in.

I'd prefer to see McStay or Membrey given a rest for West to have a shot, we're going to have Buller at the club for longer than either of them (McStay/Membrey) so I think he needs more time to gel with the team and system as a whole. If he's still providing contest, it might be more fast tracked for him to adapt to the system in real AFL games
