It's highly addictive, that's for sure. When you hit it cleanly and it makes that sweet sounding noise, you forget about everything
I took my son to a driving range and got him a bucket of balls.
His swing would be better suited to baseball.

If it wasn't for Nick and Josh Daicos, Darcy Moore (FS), Isaac Quaynor (NGA) - honestly - our drafting has been diabolical.

These are our outputs from the draft, since 2015.... that are still on our list....

  • Josh Daicos 2016 (pick 57 - FS)
  • IQ 2018 (pick 13 - NGA)
  • Reef McInness 2020 (pick 23 - still unknown quantity)
  • Beau McCreery 2020 (pick 44)
  • Nick Daicos 2021 (pick 4 - FS)
  • Harvey Harrison 2021 (pick 52 - still unknown quantity)
  • Ed Allan 2022 (pick 19 - unlikely to succeed based on desire, gamesense, composure and skill)
  • Jacob Ryan 2022 (pick 28)
  • Harry DeMattia 2023 (pick 25)
  • Tew Jiath 2023 (pick 37)

I won't make any judgements on the last 2 drafts yet, but geez, this paints a horrendous picture of our recruiting and player development departments.

McCreery is the ONLY regular in our side, that isn't NGA or Father Son!

Is there a ladder for this?

thats why we have a new recruiter, hopefully he can do better and start focussing more on talls

We don't have the capacity to break away from sides- even weaker ones.
We don't? This is why I questioned our slow the tempo of the game.

We had it last year, close space on the oppo, turnover and off to the races with ball speed - made our forward entries look good, yet with no better forward talent than now, apart from Checkers and Bobby.

Are those two the difference? Or is it the way we're playing this slow tempo game giving our forwards zero chance?

So what's changed?

Collingwood is going to pay a heavy price if it gets nothing from the last 2 drafts in terms of quality players.

With the draft as compromised as it is and with Tasmania coming in.... this could be quite painful for the Pies in the short-medium term.

For me our Key Backs are more of a concern than forwards, as we at least have West and McCarthy as developing talls who look promising in terms of attitude and ability.

In terms of Key Backs, I am more suspect on Cochrane and McInness. Cochrane has the grace of time, however despite McInness' knee injury, I feel he needs to prove something this year. It's his 6th year in the system.

Moore is great, but he's over 30 now and so is Frampton. The fact that we are still expecting output from Howe is an indictment on our recruiting and player development.

Opposition aren't allowing us to move it quickly. We're also not prepared to just go down the line. They'll work it out

It sounds like a mathematician nerds style of golf. Just tell us your handicap so we can work out if you're any good. No judgement, golf is a very difficult game to master.
Put it this way. He has had a handicap for about 40 years. His wife has taken it up now and got a handicap for the 1st time a few months ago. She is getting ready to pass him and a lot of cheering is happening

I'm honestly just curious what his handicap is. I'll leave him alone. It's probably better than mine ever was anyway

That makes for some damning reading, doesn’t it?No wonder Leppitsch finally had enough and gave Hine his marching orders at the end of 24.

Oppo have never allowed us to, yet we did in our flag year and for more than half a season last year.
We've definitely changed our game plan since then, probably to allow for the lack of talent atm. It's a good game plan and will keep us in most games but we just lack the polish we had

This is an irrelevant analysis unless you have a basis for comparison- it may well be Coll is no worse than every other Club. Drafting is a lottery and when you are constantly contending then you are even more disadvantaged with poorer picks.
At the end of the day the quality of list management is determined by achieving Top 8, Top4, PF, GF and Flags. By those metrics we’ve done very well.

And this is why trading for players of known quality like shoota and Houston is smart business

Lack of talent atm? It's not really a lot different to last year and we've never had the best list in it, even in our flag year, even last year when the comp couldn't go with us.

So I can't justify the change of game.

Titch, WHE, Cox, bobby, Mihochek and probably a couple more. They all played big roles in 23. Sidey and pendles are a couple of years older. Howe is a shadow of what he was. I think we're definitely down on talent compared to 23.
