I hated the Saints so much after the 2009 prelim, and the diving that won them that game. But..they have been in the VFL/AFL longer than us for one paltry flag, which they won by a solitary point (sorry for the cliches).

For those rusted on supporters, who could look across to the Hawks in the next suburb and not jump ship, respect. As much as I imagine their supporters will be as insufferable as the Tiges were, I hope they win another flag soon to restore some respect, not against us of course.
Nah.
They were a dominant team for many years not that long ago but couldn't convert that into flags. They had their chance and blew it.

Plus they're embarrassing for rehiring Ross after he left them at the alter.

Only just turned the game on.

How do watchers think we'd go on current form v these 2 teams?

Did the hawks put some of the essendon sauce in Gunstons protein shakes when he came back from Brisbane.

He looked cooked.

Everyone thought he was cooked. Even his first year back at the Hawks was pretty rough. They were just subbing him and Breust most weeks and barely played a full game

Everyone also thought Tex was cooked about 5 years ago. Unbelievable that they are playing their best footy at this age

1.Hawks pressure is so much better.

2. Swans cannot stick a tackle to save their skins.

3. Umpiring has largely been governed by the crowd.

Great game in spite of strange circumstances.

Felt like a classic Dogs game we're all used to, with all that bombing to tall defenders and sloppy inside 50s.

The umpire being too much of a coward to call Ginnivan's duck HTB ruined what should have been a great finish.

That was a one of the few rule changes in recent years that I was pretty excited about. Barely seen it paid in the games I’ve seen. Not sure if I’ve misinterpreted it but none of the ones I’m expecting to get paid are getting paid

Yay Hawks! Tipped them by 17. A rare double for me.
I needed the Hawks to win by 12+.
Thank God for The Wiz, never thought I’d say that !!

I can't recall seeing it be paid yet, maybe because players are chosing not to duck so much just because the rule exists so perhaps it has helped indirectly.

That one was as blatant as it gets though and maybe would have been paid anywhere else around the ground then 30m out in the defensive 50 with 3 minutes to go, because the umpire was too scared to make the right but unpopular call.

They definitely aren’t ducking/shrugging any less but they seem to have ignored the rule change for the most part

You’re right about the defensive 50 bit because they paid one against Papley about 5 minutes later in the forward pocket. Thats the first one I remember being seen paid

I thought we'd lose to both in the first quarter, ball was moving up and down the field at a crazy pace and would not be a good match up for our slow starts to games.

For the rest of the game we'd stack up well against both I reckon, at least with their current outs. Getting back and defending the corridor should get the better of Sydney if tonight was anything to go on and I think we win the midfield battle against the Hawks, though their rebound out of back half could still give us trouble.

Thought last night was about as good as you'll see a defender play. Barrass was awesome, smashed Curnow when he went to him. He's a star.

Also thought it was another poor night for the umps. Most games I've seen this year there seems to be a 10/15 minute period where they lose control of the game.

If you put our forward line into either of them.they'd be out of sight. Though Gunston is a master.

Barraass was a level above anything we had.

I'm starting to warm to Watson, he's less a novelty and more an excellent player. An excitement machine .

Overall , hard to say . There's not much between any top 8 team this year . We're on the leader board, but it's a long way to the clubhouse.

Is kicking in danger no longer a rule? Been noticing a heap of kicking the ball off the ground whilst players are attempting to grab it.
There was a blatant one in the 4th quarter not paid.

Curnow gave up after half time. Against Naughton or Darcy, different story.

Watching last night I feel like it would still be a shootout, end to end all night. I'm confident against both, noting the Swans had two stars out and were coming off a 5 day break.

Why even bother listening to anything the AFL says these days? Make a big song and dance about concussion and HIA, Watson gets his head knocked off and is allowed to stay out on the field. The AFL is lucky footy is a product that sells itself because they couldn't run a bath let alone a footy league.

Funnily enough we seem to match up better against the Swans in recent times but not so great against the Hawks.
