It probably won’t, but Jake Waterman’s goal from 60m out should win goal of the week

Cleared the goal line easily and should at least be one of the nominations

And Jobe should make it b2b mark of the week nominations for that defensive clunk
Well the bounce made him mark of the week

you know how when you like a song, then it gets overplayed and you get a bit sick of it.

Only one day to hear it again and you remember what a good song it is and you want to hear it again?

That’s our club song at the minute. Hope you boys enjoy watching it again as much as I did.

Great to see Yeo moving comfortably. Could it have just been precautionary?

This should be more permanent. Baker up front provides a hard contest, much needed leadership and accountability.

The biggest gain for our team will be not having his turnover game occurring in the corridor. He is actually decent shot for goal as well.

That leaves Duggan as the only obvious turnover merchant in defence and he needs to polish up his lockdown defensive role and hand pass to simple targets. Oh, and no kick ins please
Murdock provides this up front when fit and healthy.

Baker is a mini swingman, can go in the middle or up forward as needed.

There's a part of me that hopes that they're being overly precautious with Yeo. There's another part of me that knows that Yeo is made of glass.

Both can be true at the same time, dear Boo.

If we have pulled him as a precaution it would be a cateclysmic change from the Simpson run into the ground days
Fully on board

Why? He gave away one free kick today which was against Butters who did his routine flop and otherwise appeared to be a typical jumper push and should've been play on.
Is there another incident I'm missing?

I've only watched the game once so someone might be able to clarify this...

Last quarter a few mins to go we have it locked in our forward 50... There's a stoppage and the pressure relief valve is released with Port being gifted a free for something off the ball.

The commentators at the time said Harley decked someone and I was pretty wild about it. They might have just been showing some bias, either way wasn't happy.

From memory Port didn't do much immediately with it, they turned it over not long after but was still a very costly and stupid error from us, whoever it was.

One free against to Harley for that game does seem fairly low.

Was that the season that Dwayne complained incessantly about us tanking the season before to get Darling (who all but Collingwood could have drafted)?

Too right. And why not, have a look at that in the equivalent fixture, away at Port after a win against North at home. Was a real moment to go ‘oh ****, we’ve got one here’.

Shanahan had his moment today, Duursma added one as well. Something about the youfff putting their stamp on things away at Port setting up the next generation just feels so right.

Harley was a good boy on his best behaviour today. Even Dwayne who made the basketball “five fouls to give” analogy kept sadly having to bring up that he hadn’t used any of them yet.

I suspect that was the free against and the 50m penalty on Butters doesn’t record as a free against but a seperate stat. So call it two, plus however many dumped late after kicking (had one in the late fourth that would have iced the game and naturally didn’t get it).

On the flip side, he offered us immense physicality channeled at the footy, dragged the team to the win, brought teammates into it, kicked the cover off the thing, didn’t fight, made Horne Francis his bitch.

Deadset if there are Eagles fans watching today and having the gall to ask for more from Harley, I think they’re just too cooked by content brain to be saved.

Yes just watched it. There's a high contact free with 3:33 left on the clock but it isn't really clear who does it - though Ol' Kenny immediately just says "Harley" simply coz he's in the vicinity. You can't even see the incident due to graphics on the screen.

Remember in 2011, off a spoon, we started the season with a home win vs North then an away win against Port and finished top four?

I bring that up for no reason at all.
Wait we play Sydney next week.
Is fixturing as easy as taking a 15 year old season and doing it again.

Just a lil shoutout to Mini McQualter. Blokes been through it all. He jumped into probably one of the most dire positions when he joined the club and we officially hit rock bottom as we experienced the worst AFL season in history last year. This game plan and structure has him written all over it. Scrappy and committed and he’s had buy in from every youngster and experienced player playing today. The footage of him clapping when Cripps took that mark to ice the game - you could see meant a lot to him. There will never be a question in the future that this isn’t his team and he created the foundations for what will hopefully be premiership worthy in 4-5 years time. 👏

If Shanahan becomes a 290 game All Australian premiership winning KPF with us I'll take that to the bank.

The positives have been covered ad nauseam and I’m here for every single one. Weekend just feels different when your footy team is winning!

Negatives are Yeo’s injury and the fact that nothing is surer than that farcknuckle Michael Christian giving Dev a week for his sling tackle on Butters.

Hopefully Hewett is right to replace Yeo and perhaps Hall or Macrae come in for Robertson?

Look at the leading clubs, they have 3 or 4 playing the role each week.

Put simply, and assuming Starcevich gets on the park, we do not need Baker defensively. And the fact is he turns the ball over when down back.

It's legit blowing my mind we've come from 5 goals down two weeks in a row to win at this stage of our development.

This is the kinda shit that builds belief. Geelong and Carlton back to back in 06. After the siren against Port (lol) 17. Not at that level as a squad yet but these kids will remember this.
I agree.
Countless rebuilds over the years have never gotten off the ground, not through lack of talent, but because the young players never learnt how to win, or lack the drive or resolve to lead the club out of the doldrums. I think we've seen with this young group the last two weeks that they can forge their own path.
Now I've completely pulled this out of my arse & have nothing to back it up, but I think its a nice theory.

+ Thought Lindsay was good defensively. Boys got around him a couple of times after his efforts. Good to see as this was a question mark on him because he's clearly a weapon with the ball.
Got it 19 times & didn't notice him much, which tells me he wasn't butchering it out of the back half (with maybe one exception) or losing 1v1s. Good signs.
