Soccer @ Adelaide Oval Friday Night

I went all the way to Adelaide Oval about 1 hour before kick-off and it was sold out. :( So I just went to a pub and watched it there, doesn't look like I missed much. According to Foxtel though it was only about 25k full, so what was all the empty seats as its supposed to be about 34k capacity...SACA members or Adelaide United members not turning up? It looked packed on TV but I guess they didn't show the main grandstands.

I'm pretty sure it was the United members who didn't show up. Chappell Stands were packed and there wasn't much free room on the grass.

Um no sorry wrong, the Northern Chappell stand which was PACKED was the Adelaide United members seat allocation

What an absolute joke of a referee!!!
Cost us so many oppurtunities/goals.

Sat in the north chappel stand and got my tickets before hand. That area wasnt reserved for members. "First in best dressed seating". Excellent atmosphere and enjoyed the game. Pity bout the result. Hopefully they do it again when the victory come!

Big crowd. Caught everyone by surprise. They were expecting 20,000 and I imagine they capped numbers at 25,000. There were heaps of people being turned away at the gates too. The ground holds 32,000 - no reason why more couldn't have come in. Apparently the SACA didn't open the gates for free for Lehmann's last one day game because of catering concerns - they didn't think they had enough pies  Perhaps they got the jitters again.

The people of Adelaide have spoken. Bulldoze AAMI, sell off the land, pump money into bigger grandstands at Adelaide Oval and we will have the best sports stadium (outside the G) in Australia. It was so easy to get in and out compared to AAMI. Parked just off Hindley St, 10 minute walk and I'm there. An absolute pleasure.

Some of my relatives, who are United members, got their tickets in the Giffin Stand, so a portion of the member's side was allocated to United members :)

They would be gold members, there are too lots of season ticket holders gold which is the premium who get undercover reserved seating at Hindmarsh and red which is basically anywhere else in the stadium at Hindmarsh, I am a red member and the ticket I got supplied with said Northern Chappell stand or general admin. Anyway that's semantics was a great crowd.

Can I just apologize to any people who don't regularly watch soccer and went tonight that the FFA in their wisdom put Breeze in charge, he is an A grade ass clown fool of a referee.

I had 8 of my mates turned away at the gates - SACA, go **** yourselves 25k is not a sell out.

Performance was shit.

And gets, i think i saw you after the game - have you coloured your hair black?

Had 10 mates turned away, just lucky I got my ticket earlier in the day despite the result.

Oh and I'd like to add SkyCity is a disgrace, me and my mates weren't allowed in after the game because we were wearing soccer gear and according to them "were likely to start fights", what a ****ing joke. Apprently we were likely to be drunk and causing trouble (dont't forget most people in normal shirts who go in there pissed)... all we wanted to do was meet our mates who couldnt get in to see the game

I knew this would come up

Did people turn up for the event or did they turn up to watch soccer? Will they turn up fortnight after fortnight?

Carl, do you regularly attend soccer at Hindmarsh , if no would you attend every second week to watch it at Adelaide Oval?

Had to laugh when Val Migliaccio (soccer writer for the tiser) blamed Adelaide Oval for last night's defeat, then by extension Adelaide's chances of playing finals and finally winning the title. And there I was thinking the trifling matter of results - y'know losing and drawing games that could've/should've been won - played some role. No, apparently Hindmarsh could've delivered victory here, like the game against the Mariners a couple of weeks back ... oh hang on, bad example ... Anyway, go stand in the corner AO.

Whatever Mr I don't want a stadium in the city for some strange reason.

Thats sh*t. They do that at most places though, not allowed to wear 'club' clothing and all.

Solution, take your shirt off. haha.

Who cares about soccer? Not me. It doesn't matter if people turned up at the soccer yesterday as a one off event or not. We know people will turn up to AFL games - the Crows regularly get 42,000+ and the Power 20,000+. These people turn up every week.

That's what I am interested in. The fact that a large crowd went to Adelaide Oval for a sporting event, it took about 10 minutes to drive there and about the same to park/walk to the ground to me = an absolute no brainer. Last night simply showed what is possible. Let's play our major sports at a ground that is central and everyone loves rather than a ground that isn't central and everyone hates. And don't build a new stadium for christ's sake. File that under MFP.

Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane manage to get by with one major stadium for cricket and football. Much easier for state governments to invest significant dollars when their investment is for 12 months of the year rather than 6.

Are you serious? What a joke. They have no problems letting almost paralytic people in after Christmas parties

Until you know why people went you wont be able to accurately represent crowd figures
But it doesn't matter. Who cares about soccer? If they had another game at Adelaide Oval and only 5000 people turned up it wouldn't matter.

We know people will go to see the Crows. We know they will go to see the Power. We know they will go to see the Aus cricketers. This is not in question.

So why build another football stadium without making it multi purpose...thats why you need to care about the soccer
