Build it and they will come. :thumbsu: Get rid of Hindmarsh and or AAMI, build a multi-purpose venue near the city...maybe like Telstra Stadium with the moveable concourse seating to change the shape between oval and rectangle as required. Just not as big. 60-65k would be plenty.

As for the game, loved it except for the result. It was a very poor send off IMO, and the perfect tackle-steal by Djite late in the second half that was called a foul was disgraceful. A goal to him there on the break, and anything could have been possible.

Adelaide Oval is an awesome place to view sport, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Very surprised that it sold out so early - glad I pre-purchased that morning! Im under the belief that SACA members didnt have the right of free admission (as with cricket/SANFL) last night, a majority of that area was for Gold members I think?

Thats sh*t. They do that at most places though, not allowed to wear 'club' clothing and all.

Solution, take your shirt off. haha.

haha I rang my mates to see if any of them had jumpers/layered shirts, but no luck
Are you serious? What a joke. They have no problems letting almost paralytic people in after Christmas parties

That's basically what I told the guard, and how they were stereotyping soccer supporters. There were a lot of very pissed off people I can tell you that.

So why build another football stadium without making it multi purpose...thats why you need to care about the soccer
I don't want us to build another stadium. Just to play AFL footy at an expanded Adelaide Oval. The soccer can stay at Hindmarsh.

Two sports qualifies as "multi" in my book!

Dont remember much of the game but what a piss up just recovering now

Was antone else on the hill? My inlaws were leading the singing, as they do at hindmarsh- which leads to a much different atmosphere to AAMI

Bit of a shambles in organisation thou

Complete push and shove trying to get a beer, leaving was chaos and the only way that i got the train home was running to the train station and a mate with a daytrip went in and ran onto another train, bought a ticket and ran it back out to me (the line ups at the booths were going up the ramp), we then ran to the Gawler line and JUST made it in time

One of the problems with a City sporting location will be Adelaide Rail station. It simply can not handle large crowds. When two trains come in at once in the moring there is a 5 minute line up at t he turnstiles to get out. And that is is for about 300 people max.

Can't say I've used the Train Station before. Has it got the potential to be able to cope with a large number of people though, through upgrades etc?

Now you’re looking at spending another 5 to 10 million on a train station upgrade. Just out of curiosity KC do you pay tax?

But it doesn't matter. Who cares about soccer? If they had another game at Adelaide Oval and only 5000 people turned up it wouldn't matter.

And in my view, that's exactly what would happen.

We know people will go to see the Crows. We know they will go to see the Power. We know they will go to see the Aus cricketers. This is not in question.

I don't believe you can actually use cricket as a good example.
After the first two days of a test match in Adelaide the crowds are always poor. This season is slightly different where days 3,4 and 5 are on the long weekend. But it wont last that long. :)

Are you disputing that crowds (larger than AAMI) would go to Adelaide Oval to see AFL football?

This is probably more of a general soccer question than 'Adelaide United playing at Adelaide Oval', but if Matthew Breeze is constantly being criticised about his performance and constantly being described as 'best on ground', why the hell is he regarded as one of Australia's top soccer referees?

What people have to remember is most people unfamiliar with a sport are bandwagoners - if a team is doing well then there will be more going then if the team is having a bad year.

Our problem in Adelaide is that we have 4 major grass teams - crows, power, redbacks and United. No rugby.

The next problem is that while the crows need a 60k stadium (this would mean no more waiting lists and being able to buy tickets on match day) there isnt another team that needs one. Port will get there eventually but not for another decade.

Adelaide united needs a Central Location stadium that can hold between 25 and 30k.

The Redbacks would still use Adelaide Oval as well as international cricket - but capacity for Cricket needs to increase for internationals.

Cricket and Soccer need around the same capacity, but have vast differences in grass length, shape of oval, cricket pitches and they are both played during the same time.

If we were to move AFL to Town and build a 60k stadum, then United wouldnt be able to use it. Internationals for Soccer yes, Rugby internationals yes - but nothing else.

A possible soloution that no-one has suggested:
Build a 60k AFL stadium in the city. Crows and Power to be permanent Tenants. International soccer to be played here.

Upgrade Adelaide Oval. 40k capacity so that we can hold international cricket and events like Rugby 7s.

Bulldoze/Reformat AAMI. Make this a 30k rectangular Stadium - with buses in place to get there, maybe people will be inclined to go even thoguh its not in the city. Access to hindmarsh has always been a problem, maybe the bus services might help.

Still doesnt get all the parties happy, but the bottom line is you cant have 3 different stadiums in the CBD.

oh.. and to get back on topic.. its so bleedingly obvious that we need a 60,000 central stadium.. the SA government are outdated and although it would cost alot of money.. over the years we would get alot of this back through thousands more people passing through central cbd accessing shops, pubs, hotels, etc.

question.. does the sanfl own aami stadium? if this is the case its obvious why they dont want to move the 2 teams from there as they would be losing out on money!!

SANFL owns AAMI, just finished repaying everyone they owed money too form memory.

Ultimately they will never move unless there is big bucks for them - they own the licenses for both teams as well.

I have a job so yes I do.

Upgrading our main rail station doesn't seem like a 'waste' of money to me. Makes perfect sense to me actually.

I'd much rather upgrade central city public transport then extending a rail or tram line which will only ever be used by more then a few hundred people once a week for half the year.

Well let me spell it out for you then. If they hold another game there that is not during the holiday period and only even say 15000 attend, there goes the ridiculous statement that "they will come". Of course sporting people have an interest in getting the best available facilities for themselves.

Are you disputing that crowds (larger than AAMI) would go to Adelaide Oval to see AFL football?

Now Carl, seriously where did I mention anything like that. Of course that wont happen. Take a Bex and have a good sleep after the Xmas pudding. ;)

My word that was quick just after getting your year 12. Must have passed with flying colours, eh Stan?

But this time I agree with you, in that upgrading the railway station to incorporate a new light rail (trams) to replace our outdated rail rolling stock.

Sorry I thought most people worked after they finished school. Maybe not? You want me to stay home all day and wait for Uni to start?

And my name isn't stan :thumbsu: (fan, stan)
