Geez he's a remarkable young guy. His growth as a person and leader has been amazing to watch.
Perfect Captain for the football club with where we are at. Hope will inspire the boys for the start of the season. And galvanise the group.

He will inspire the boys simply because he has a mature mind, he's happy, has a positive attitude and he loves us........all that will rub off and the team will benefit.

Geez he's a remarkable young guy. His growth as a person and leader has been amazing to watch.

And you know it isn't all just fluff pieces by the club, you can see it on field, in how he plays and how he talks. Think the move North has been really positive for him overall as a person, even outside of the being closer to his Dad.

Does anyone else find it a bit weird that the Lions captain (D.Beams) and the Broncos captain (D.Boyd) both graduated from Palm Beach Currumbin High School on the Gold Coast? The Titans captain (R.James) also attended attended PBC and even the Reds captain (S.Higginbotham) went to TSS on the Gold Coast.

Just seems a bit strange to me.

AFL is scripted. They figured it worked well for WWE.

Beams steps aside as Lions skipper
DAYNE Beams has stepped aside as Brisbane captain, indefinitely.

Beams lost his father Philip to cancer in March and has been struggling since. Beams consulted with CEO Greg Swann, coach Chris Fagan and general manager of football David Noble and told the playing group on Tuesday.

"I feel like it’s in the best interests for myself and my family that I hand over the captaincy to Dayne Zorko indefinitely," Beams told lions.com.au. "Obviously the last three months for myself, I’m not going to lie, they’ve been bloody difficult, and I’ve experienced some really bad lows. "I think footy’s been hard for me because I associated football with my father. So it feels like a big chunk of my football life is missing at the moment.

"So, I just feel like I need some time to find where I belong in the game. And just find my feet again and find my love for the game again. "I still love coming into the footy club."

Noble said Beams went to the club recently to discuss his leadership role. "He has had a lot on his plate personally the past six months, and with the energy required to support Kelly with the upcoming birth of their second child, we believe it was the right move for him," Noble said. "We are confident that the leadership group that supported Dayne are more than capable to lead this club.

"It is moments like these we are fortunate to have a leader like of Luke Hodge with our club, and along with our leadership group, he can offer support to Zorko and Harris where appropriate."

Beams has played eight of Brisbane's nine games to date, missing round three against Port Adelaide with illness, and will continue to play. Beams took over the captaincy prior to the 2017 season and has been lauded by the Lions' coaching staff and players for his ability to galvanise the young group.

Lions praise Beams for ‘selfless’ captaincy call
BRISBANE has praised selfless former skipper Dayne Beams for the ultimate demonstration of leadership in passing the captaincy to Dayne Zorko.

Beams has stepped down from the Lions captaincy indefinitely after telling senior officials he did not feel he was doing the job justice as he took time away from the club each week for counselling to help cope with his grief at the loss of his father and best mate Philip to cancer in March.

The Lions theme heading into Sunday’s clash with Hawthorn was “selflessness” after identifying the side had started to slip from taking the “team first” option under pressure in matches, a point Zorko made to media last week. The Lions say Beams embodied that team first spirit when he raised the issue of handing over the captaincy to coach Chris Fagan and football manager David Noble on Saturday.

With the weight off his shoulders, Beams produced his best game of the year in the Lions’ 56-point drubbing of Hawthorn at the Gabba on Sunday.

Beams had begun to skip certain meetings as they clashed with treatment he was receiving and although he had the full backing of the club’s senior officials and on-field leadership group to carry on in the role, he became uncomfortable with the feeling he wasn’t giving 100 per cent.

CEO Greg Swann said the Lions viewed Beams’ decision as the ultimate act of leadership. “It was selfless, he felt like he was letting us down,’’ he said. “We were supportive of the time away from the club, everyone was OK with it, we would have backed him for as long as he needed but he came to us and said ‘I’m not doing the job justice’. “It was interesting because we had a theme of selflessness last week and when Fages addressed the group, he called Dayne’s decision positive selflessness, and I think that sums it up.’’

Beams told the playing group on Tuesday and posted a courageous video on the club’s website where he addressed his battles. "I think footy has been hard for me because I associated football with my father, so it feels like a big chunk of my football life is missing at the moment,’’ Beams said. “Obviously the last three months for myself, I’m not going to lie, they’ve been bloody difficult, and I’ve experienced some really bad lows. “I’m seeking professional help. I’ve been getting help for the last two months. It’s an emotion that’s really hard to explain. “I sit here comfortable knowing that I’ve made the right decision. “I still love coming into the footy club. I still love playing the game and I’ll continue to play my role within the side. “I feel like playing will be a big help for me moving forward.”

Lions football manager David Noble was supportive of Beams’ decision. “Dayne brought this to us recently to discuss his leadership role. He has had a lot on his plate personally with the death of his father the past six months, and with the energy required to support Kelly with the upcoming birth of their second child, we believe it was the right move for him,” Noble said. “We have confidence in the leadership group that supported Dayne, and they are more than capable to lead this club. We want to congratulate Dayne Zorko and Harris Andrews on their new roles as captain and vice-captain of the Brisbane Lions.”

Beams sill leading by example: Fagan
DAYNE Beams showed that you don't have to be captain to lead from the front, putting in a team-best performance for the Lions in their 18-point loss to the Swans at the Gabba.

Beams earned plaudits from the football world this week after standing down as the Lions' skipper, putting his hand up to admit that the loss of his father earlier this year was detracting from his ability to lead the club.

Carrying on from a recent run of good form, Beams racked up 38 disposals (16 contested), won nine clearances, laid four tackles and kicked a goal on his way to being Brisbane's best on ground.

After the game Brisbane coach Chris Fagan paid tribute to Beams' effort, saying he was the stand out in an even team performance. "The really good players, they shine when the conditions get slippery," Fagan said. "There's no doubt he (Beams) made a significant contribution tonight, it was a fantastic game by him."
