Top 6

Lloyd 103.6
Laird. 102.8
Blakely 101.9
Whitfield 97.4
Simpson 96.2
Mills (if he gets the mid role) 95.2

Next 6 (just outside, av. of 85-95)

Witherden
Sicily
Hurn
Hanley
Newman
Wiliams

Just a prediction, haha
I think this is a really hard way to gauge the scoring of some defenders this year, defenders like Lloyd, Sicily, Hurn, Simpson & Short who take really large percentages of their teams kick outs will surely get an average of at least five to ten extra points a game.

With the new kick in rules I think we'll see defenders always kick it out of the square, the player will want to get the extra meter or two and just about every player will deep down know they get that extra cheap stat which they'll want to capitalize on. A lot of these defenders will already play on before they take the kick in however now they'll play on close to 100% of their kick ins. With out changing their game they can now get a cheap extra two or three kicks a game. That doesn't make it very difficult to get the extra five to ten points per game on their averages.

Smith's a reigning Crichton medalist, can't see them taking his mid time away. Especially when that was his main reason for leaving the Giants and going to the Bombers. Think it'll be Zaka and Heppell that will have their mid time go down. Most likely Zaka.
Could they try Heppell off the half backline again?

Essendon midfield time will be very interesting to watch. (Langford, Parish etc...do they get more mid exposure?)

Then again the short chips into the pockets from kickouts are now likely out of action which will affect Laird's scoring at least and Lloyd a bit too I guess.

At this stage it's all just a guessing game though, hopefully teams approach the kickouts in the JLT like they will come the real deal. Would've been a lot easier if the normal rules were kept.

Yeah I was thinking that. They'll definitely want to give more mid exposure to McGrath and Parish, so I think Zaka goes to half-forward and Heppell goes to half-back. One thing is certain though, there'll be a lot of players going through there this year.

Just a random guess based on previous years and estimated ability with new rules and players returning. Don't expect it to be that close.

I do think the new kick-in rule is probably being over-exaggerated. A lot of players will just play on now, instead of using the short kick. This could be via a handball or a kick, and then they might not receive the extra plus six from the return kick to get out of the defensive 50. I also think that the new rule will lead to faster players (Saad, Murdoch, Rohan, Atley etc.) taking the kick-in's, as opposed to the designated kickers. If it doesn't matter about them pin-pointing a target, they can take more of a risk and use that pace to clear the lines.

We'll see a bit during JLT, but I definitely think the defenders will be the most interesting aspect when it comes to fantasy this year.

My perspective on Kruezer is simple. I've selected him and will keep him there, already been mentioned he's fine for R1.

Kruezer to start, Mumford for the downgrade in a break glass in case of emergency. Enjoy your 150k and beef somebody else up you inevitably c*cked up

For anyone that was backing in Kreuz as a nice 'cheap' option, here's the exact reason why you can't trust him this year:

Was gonna take him off my 'never again' list, but he's just too risky.

A knee cleanup and 2 freak medical issues dont really scare me off. Its not as if a concussion or heart rate issue are going to slow him down all year. I'm keeping him in for now unless his surgery recovery lingers on somehow

Nah that's fair enough, but I won't be taking that chance. Got burned last year and he's on my 'never again list.' Unless something drastic changes, it'll stay that way

Kane Cornes has stated that Ollie Wines will need a shoulder reconstruction after a water skiing injury.

So where does everyone stand on starting Macrae? Can he back up what he’s produced? Is it better to go down to a Kelly/Treloar type? What do we actually see him averaging with at least 2 more mids coming in (Libba/Smith).

I’d say he would be near top mid, just producing 115+. Hard to backup what he did.

I think he’ll be the number 1 mid, but May only be 2-3 points above the likes of Kelly/Cripps by average, rather than the 10-12 he’s priced at

with Libba & Picken good chances to resume this year throws a lot of unknowns into the bulldogs basket, I'm in the wait and see camp.

Any love for Matt Suckling with the new kick in rules?

Ollie Wines injury could open up a spot for Mayes?

Yeah I’ve just added Atley to my watchlist. Of more interest to me right now is how Wines’ reported injury might impact Rocky and Robbie.

Im now considering both and have locked gray into my SC team. Will monitor JLT for fantasy. Someone also mentioned rocky has some personal issues atm. Not sure if true but his instagram has been very quiet makes me wonder if him and his wife are all good.

I see him as an attractive prospect. Here's why:

Q1: Will he finish in the top echelon in his position?
Yes, very likely top overall.
Q2: Is there any reason to consider him underpriced?
Yes, if you take out the injured game he averaged 127 instead of the 123 he is priced at.
Q3: Is there room for improvement?
This is where I might differ with some coaches. Scarily, I think he still has further room to improve. His first half of the season went at 127, and the last 5 games at 135. He is only 24 years old, so still very much entering his AFL prime. He got tagged a couple of times but he works like a machine, with tackles and outworking his opponent to mitigate any tag (keeping in mind there is also Bontempelli and others who may be tagged instead).
Q4: Is he a set and forget captain option?
You bet. Although if you have Grundy in your lineup as I do then this is probably not as relevant.

To me the 4ppg underpricing due to injury game, plus room for natural improvement makes him more attractive (and safer) than some of the alternative options.

Fremantle half-back Connor Blakely has reportedly suffered a serious hamstring injury which could see him miss three to four months.

6PR’s Kim Hagdorn this morning declared Blakely would undergo surgery this week after tearing his hamstring off the bone on Friday.

“Connor Blakely has suffered a very serious hamstring tendon tear, I think it was last Friday,” Hagdorn said.

“He’s been training all summer with personal best numbers. It was not only devastating for Connor Blakely... but it sent shockwaves through the rest of the group.”

Well throws a serious spanner in the works for many teams, I really thought he’d get some good midfield time this season.
At the very least he should be a good upgrade option by the time some of the cash cows are nice at fat.
