My issues with this are....he’s not 19......And this ain’t his first rodeo.....And he’s been here A MINUTE. And he’s been here (in trouble on the piss) before....and he was a controversial pick up who had his contract watered down to a 1 year perf based deal......and he told us he’d prove it a good decision.

No one said don’t drink. But to get SO drunk as to break your arm given HIS circumstances is beyond belief. It’s obvious it wasn’t any innocent slip up after a couple of beers - the language of the club was pretty strong.

So enough folks. He’s not just made a little error. It’s a really shit effort and it’s not excusable.

He didn't drink so much alcohol his arm shattered, you peanut :P

Don't know what his BA level was, but at the end of the day he tripped over while play-wrestling with some mates. It's up there with trampoline-gate from a couple of years back. You shake your head and say "maybe avoid doing that in future", but ultimately our players would be in greater peril during a full-contact training drill than they would be while rough-housing in a mate's backyard.

The drinking is disappointing at this point of the preseason. I have no issue with the club making a strong stance on that. But one Charlie Curnow had a little (read: not so little) alcohol-related issue pre-draft and we weren't threatening to burn the club down for picking him up. They're AFL footballers, not MENSA members - they do stupid shit sometimes and should be held accountable, but there's some next-level angst coming to the surface here, most likely as a pent-up release following injuries to Docherty, Pickett, Jones, Kreuzer etc. Frustrating, yes, but perspective is important.

Fasolo should not drink at all, let alone this close to round one when he is on a 1 year K. He is one of many who can’t handle their piss. I am another of these. Addiction and mental health issues. I don’t want to be too hard on him but this is a massive setback. He will be hating himself. He should have either not gone or left early, easier said than done. It’s forgivable but could really set him back. He now has to put energy (mental) into getting EVERYONES faith back. It’s a very big set back, cause he was a lock for round one. The voices in his head will now be saying go for a cheeky line or a cheeky beer. I’m shattered for him.
quality post is quality :thumbsu:

Next you will be telling me theres no Loch nes monster........

Aye hoots mon, and watch out for that dreaded bagpipe spider
I hate bagpipe spiders........

If nothing else, it’s a lack of respect for self (you’ve trained so hard to get fit for the season, so go and partially undo that work by getting on the piss?), it’s a lack of respect for the coaches (coaches lie awake at night trying to work out how to get the best out of their players, whether it’s AFL, or U/10s), it’s a lack of respect for teammates, who deserve to know that their teammates (ie Fasolo), are taking responsibility for their preparation and acting professionally, and it’s a lack of respect for every volunteer, every member, every Carlton supporting parent who’s had to convince their child to support Carlton.

It’s time for us to grow up and get fair dinkum.

I agree and I think we are.

I wasn't fussed about getting Fasolo but he was a free hit and if he stands up he fills an important need.

Important now that he has to really earn his spot and the trust of the group back and by that I mean by working hard for a long long period of time. With any luck others will step up and he will spend a fair amount of time in the 2's.

Needs to made clear these incidents come with major consequences for all to see. If he doesn't then at the end of the year he is gone

Was wondering about that myself. Good explanation :thumbsu:

No it isn't. It's full of assumptions about fasolo, who he is, how he responds, how he handles alcohol and substances, about depression and mental health issues. No one here knows anything about what's going on inside his head or how this will impact him. As a sufferer of a mental health issue its actually pretty well off for someone on an Internet forum to think they can assume anything about what's going on in someone else's head.

my suggestion of quality was as much to do with the poster's willingness to disclose his past mental health struggles as anything he actually wrote - the bloke just suggested he suffered the same sort of condition - as have/do I - less than 100% strong mental health - depression and alcohol ends in blood and tears - any grown person who has done the minimum of research or their own personal long road knows at least that - your pathetic attempts to support this latest incident on carlton football clubs watch say as much abbout you as it does him - pull your ****ing head in

So Fasolo was 'intoxicated' less than 8 weeks out from the start of the season. Not only that he was already in the red with the club. He had a massive point to prove to show that his selection was justified. From a professional stand point this is nothing short of pathetic. I'm sure he said all the right things when he sat down with the club. Now here we are. We are striving like hell to create a new culture and a new breed of players who are hungry and wanting to see the blues back where they belong. Behaviour and outcomes like this completely flys in the face of that endeavour. Get real or get the fudge OUT Mr Fasolo.

Fas was a controversial pick up who had his contract watered down to a 1 year perf based deal......and he told us he’d prove it a good decision.

Collingwood got a compo pick for him, no way is he on a 1-year deal.

Not making a link to his incident, just thought I'd put it out there to counter what I think is a misconception.

Pffft don't act like you don't know.

Tell everyone the story about the time you had a wild night in with Craig Bradley. Stayed up past 10pm and he had TWO milk arrowroots with his herbal tea. Two!

No one could keep up with Bradley on OR the field! Machine....

Not all assumption, has had documented behavioural issues and time away from the club (Collingwood) with mental health/depression related issues. To presume to know the inner workings of his issues would be presumptuous, he probably struggles with that himself. However to generally assert that it is non constructive or downright self destructive to indulge considerably/heavily in stimulating substances such as alcohol when predisposed to issues is accurate.
You are not alone with first hand experience in such matters.

I have no time for apologists condoning heavy alcohol or substance abuse as being normal behaviour and pretty much the right of individuals, regardless of circumstance, commitment or employment restraints is totally wrong and majorly symptomatic of the issues destroying values in society.

Okay … bearing in mind there are approximately 46 on a list x 18 teams at the elite level, that's 828 players in the national comp. According to the AFL 2017 Annual report, there were a total of 1,547,915 Australian (Rules) Football participants, with 371,311 participants in club football, 300, 567 participants in school football competitions and now 463, 364 female participants in Australian (Rules) Football competitions and programs.

So around 5% on the total playing population make an AFL list (being generous due to the list extension to 46 for this purpose).

As a FAN, (ie paying member that follows the game and supports a club), the numbers would suggest a fairly thin narrative of those that play v's those that make a list. Given, IF, you make a list, one would assume a different mindset to actually make it. IE, those that have rolled up their sleeves and decided to take the minimum 371K per year pay day.

So again, the critique goes up. The stakes go up. The responsibility goes up. If they bomb out, which many do, that is up for us to debate and discuss.

FYI 828 players out of 1.5M = 0.05% (not 5%). Roughly about 1 in every 2000...

Even without the extraneous nes, it isn't a word.

That would be duplicity.

English Nazi over and out....

We're discussing Fasolo's incident. Not sure now is the time for Laphroaig ;)

Who says he was drunk?
There was alcohol involved yes, but it could have been three beers.
Has anyone said he was staggering drunk yet?
Im saying that people seem to latch onto worse case scenario and run with it.
Then it becomes truth. People even quoting a Twitter comment saying it was a pub brawl.

It aint the end of the world. Maybe this will make him turn the corner. Sometimes it needs more than just verbal assertions of change and a basic intent to do so. Often it needs an incident. Maybe the penny never drops who knows.

But to suggest the club is down the gurgler over it is just plain over the top.

The issue is this. Of all the players on our list it had to be him didn't it?!

No coincidence in my opinion.

I think SOS right now will be thinking it was a mistake getting said player.

Given our need for & difficulty attracting senior talent, I don't think SOS will be losing any sleep over the Fas signing.

Someone with supposed connections at the club reckons he "was pissed". Couldn't be bothered checking strike rate of said poster, but if I recall correctly it wasn't spectacular. Regardless, easy for a story to grow legs within the club and by the time it filters out via someone in Marketing or Membership or Finance who knows how exaggerated or simplified it has become.

My take on it - Fas had a few drinks at a private Australia Day celebration at a mate's house. The lads got a bit silly, he fell awkwardly while fooling around, and broke his wrist. Alcohol may have played a part, but it was, seemingly, an innocent accident and could easily have happened irrespective of alcohol consumption. He could have been out at a club doing lines and gotten into a punch-up, or knocked back a bottle of rum and tried to fight a tree, and I'd have been much more scathing. But, at face value, he got unlucky while partaking in some relatively low-key shenanigans with friends. Disappointing, hope he can bounce back and earn a spot early in the season as I still think he's got a lot to offer our young forward line.

"He acknowledged he had consumed alcohol and while remorseful of his actions, he is aware his behaviour directly contradicts the elite standards demanded by his teammates and the Carlton Football Club"

"He fell outside the front of the property and used his arm to break the fall"

>> Fasolo admitted to consuming alcohol and to behaviour that contradicts standards.

I'm guessing wrestling with mates probably isn't the behaviour thats in question.

Now let's discuss William of Ockham......
