Did Mclennan look like this when we drafted him? If it wasn't for his brow I would never have recognised him

Cory Ellis looks like that guy in his mid 30's on your touch team who used to be a decent athlete but hurt his back and now shuffles around the field.
Pretty uninspiring!
Benny Ainsworth on the other hand.

I think you guys will surprise a few teams this year and not be anywhere near as bad as people are saying. Who do you think will play in you back 6 this year? and who do you think will take kick-ins?

Plenty of options there. For me Round 1:
Harbrow, Thompson, Murdoch
Ballard, Hombsh, Hanley

Most kick-ins Harbrow, Hanley. Murdoch could have a go for his speed to play on. Joyce if he plays.

I agree that we won't be as bad as predicted.
Definitely still be bottom 4 for this season but would love to be more competitive - stop losing games by 80 points..

In a world with no injuries - Harbrow Thompson Hanley the locks

Collins, Hombsch fighting it out for 2nd tall with Leslie also in the mix after he recovers from injury - Collins certainly not a lock to play IMO if you're asking for fantasy purposes.
Ballard, Joyce, Burgess possible 3rd talls
Weller, Bowes, Fiorini, McLennan, Murdoch in the mix to spend time as a running defender.

For us I think it is the area of the field with the most uncertainty at this stage.

Personally I'd have it

Harbrow Thompson Ballard
Weller Collins Hanley

Harbrow took the most kick ins last year and don't see that changing
Hanley would likely take Stephen Mays share from last year (~25%) - from a fantasy perspective he'll play on almost every time he takes a kick I'd imagine - I think he'll score well when he plays - can't be too confident in his injury history though.

Not asking from a fantasy perspective, although kick in duties will effect my fantasy style. Collins was ok for Freo but he is shut down and not a great fantasy player. Asking more for trying to get my head around how the new rules will change the game, and missing footy in general atm.

We don't really have a big booming kick in the back half now May has gone.
Think we'll got the style of play on most times run it out 15+m & find a short - medium pass and secure possession out toward the 50 rather than run 15 kick 60 and get it up to the wing.

3 wins would be a good result 5 wins excellent.

Wooden spoon favourite by a long way

Exciting draft though

Luk, rankine, King

Looking forward to the future really

Based on what?

we were 2 wins and percentage ahead of Carlton, who are missing their Docherty for the season, had a B&F where 6/10 will be aver the age of 30 this season (2 of whom already retired), and one of those under 30 was Liam Jones.

Half a win behind St Kilda and the only game we played them we lost by 2 point in the last two minutes missing majority of our best 22.

1 win behind Brisbane, again, by 4 points from a kick in the last couple of minutes missing most of our best 22.

and that's after playing on the road non-stop for the first 9 rounds of the year and having the longest injury list in the AFL by some way (we had only scrimshaw left playing reserves out of our listed players in round 23), with the 5 players we traded having only played 44/110 games last year

- Lyons (who was delisted) can be comfortably replaced by Miles who offers more
- Peter Wright is finally fit and can replace Lynchs output (20 goals from 10 games, 9 of which came against Carlton)
- Jack Hombsch can generally replace May in terms of his actual defensive work (but not his offensive drive/kick.)
- Wright, Miller, Ah Chee, Fiorini, Ainsworth, Brodie and Bowes will all be between their 3rd - 5th years and all primed to break out and are already some of our most important players.
- have a new fitness/S&C boss who's actually improved players aerobic capacity (joining a running group in the off season) and they're noticeably bigger this year.
- brand new coaching staff, development staff and have now invested the most in player welfare of any club.
- 2nd year preseason of being able to use our state of the art facilities.
- no injuries this season to worry about YET.

anyone that has us wooden spoon favorites by a LONG way is a fool. It's entirely possible we come last, but history would suggest that we wont.

There have been many exciting drafts and then we watch them go. :-(
We need to be a club that makes really good players out of mid-draft picks (and then a really good team) instead of believing top 20 picks are our ticket to success.
Let's hope 2019 is a better year for us.

You seem very knowledgeable. I can't help my curiosity - what was wrong with Lyons from the Suns viewpoint?? Was he obstructive, disenchanted, arrogant, what??? He seemed to play well when selected but there were obviously issies behind the scenes. Thoughts ???

From a personal view - without any ‘inside’ knowledge from any coaching staff
He had no leg speed and he was limited aerobically. Unbelievable extractor from a clearance only perspective but his decision making often let him down and his disposal efficiency was pretty poor as well. He had little to no versitility if he wasn’t playing inside mid. he wasn’t fantastic as a half forward and wasn’t particularly suited for a defensive role which meant that when guys like Miller, Swallow and Brodie were ready for selection, he wasn’t able to slot anywhere else in the team and realistically fell behind them in the pecking order as an inside only player

As I said favourite to win the least games by a long way

If you win 5 you won't be on the bottom will be close just said goldcoast were a large threat for the spoon

The rookie picks, mature age picks, mid range and late picks are also huge wins for the salary cap.

It's great having all these first round picks, high end talent but also the salary cap takes a hit makes it very difficult to build a list.

Gws were a prime example all the salary unloading requirements that needed to do done just to get them back to scratch

That’s my point though. Not having a go at you, I just don’t get how anyone could have us as a ‘clear’ favourite for the spoon. Statistically and historically we are less likely to be on the bottom of the ladder than Carlton, Brisbane or St Kilda, and I think how bad we are is being grossly exaggerated in the media

It's just a mere guessing game, people look at the list, who you have, who you don't, and how they did last year; but I think the suns can surprise some people this year. They're training harder than ever, and I think this group are forming a bond that's crucial to the field.
