BB is amazing turning others people's trash into treasure, Shelton and Dorsett other first round busts also.
Good coaches coach, not try and fit players in to systems.

Also throw in Jason McCourty getting stuck on an 0-16 Browns team and winding up winning a SB with his brother
And having arguably the best play of the game, he came from nowhere to disrupt Cooks in the end zone, absolute desperation.

Its a great point. Stan Kronke is a real piece of shit when you hear about some of the things he did to people in the past... Kraft on the other hand seems like a great guy, the kind you dont mind being rich, his interview post game on ESPN was fantastic.

I'm happy for Robert and glad Stan is miserable.

Which makes it all the more difficult to swallow that he is perceived to have rolled on protecting Brady in Deflategate.

Well after drinking all day. Got home and managed to watch the replay and review.

Bill Belichick. What a game plan. All the 21st century plebs saying how bad the game was. No that was an actual game.

Brady. Not his best night by a long way. But when it mattered most in the 4th the surgeon went to work.

Defence was huge. Time after Time they came up big. J McCourty legging it to the end zone for that breakup to cooks. Shows the intelligence of the players we had. Yeah there is talent. But football smarts play such an underdog role.

Rams. Did all they could on D. They really did and just kept going all day. But really the saying all season of no run no go showed up again today. Regardless of Gurleys injury. Shutting that team out of the end zone is the true story of this Superbowl.

Obviously ecstatic about the day. But also good to reflect afterwards and see the game for what it really was without the emotion.

Home from work now........... TBH a very unproductive day it was at that.
Morning was sidetracked spent monitoring the game on the computer ....... afternoon wasted in pure joy and looking forward to getting home and watching it.

Game for the old timers a defensive slug fest at its best.

The Patriots D was simply amazing, so much pressure and juice on Goff .

Belichick was at his best this fortnight ( cunning and detailed bastard ) and I could not help but remember back to those games years ago where he as the Giants DC, he picked apart the Donkeys star studded O line.... Pepper Johnson and Lawrence Taylor.... scary shit that combination.

This win belongs to the Coaches and their ability to get the players to implement and execute the masterful game plan.

Just about to get dinner on the table ......celebrations tonight in the Monocle Household ( Adult daughter a fanatical Patriot like her Dad...... wife doesn't give a toss about NFL but is relieved because it means Husband and Daughter are not in a shit mood tonight ) .......... so its crayfish and champagne for dinner.

Mr Kraft.............. thank you......... and also to my brother who tried to get me to become a 49ers fan when Montana was King ........ I declined and chose a total'y shit team "The Patriots" so that I would not be accused of being a bandwagon supporter......... roll forward the clock...lol ..... oh the ******* irony in the fullness of time all the jealous envious ***** that have accused me on being a "Jonny Come Lately" to The Patriots ..... its what has made this Dynasty so extra rewarding.

Always have a soft spot for The Browns and would like see them have a run at the Lombardi some time soon ......... I mean the Browns Fan base, what they have had to endure .......... as for Art Model ...what a piece of :pileofpoop:.

Yep, same here. I know that same feeling. Glorious two decades of existence for me and the rest of my Patriot blood-brothers.

Btw, you're so right about master-coaching. Was having this same argument pre-SB with someone, he reckons talent supercedes coaching, and really belittles coaching. Today was a victory for me in that argument as well. Double celebrations at House of Exe.

Let the champagne flow all over my body and rub it in all night yeah.

...

Not just the end zone, the red zone. Can't quite remember, but did the rams even have a snap inside the Patriots 25? Rams didn't even get close and never looked like it - well, Goff started to get a slight whiff when Chung went down.

It was a bit of a frustrating game as a Pats fan, especially early, but a joy in the end. The frustration was points left on field when it was quickly shaping up to be a tight game (Brady's int in the 1st drive, the 4th and 1 - maybe I was alone, but I was screaming at the TV for them to take the FG) and other little moments. But credit to that Rams D, they did not make it easy and but for failing to stop Edelman, they were reading a fair bit of the Pats play and it was hard work.

With the dust settled, just stoked. What a fantastic play-off run. As a package of three games, one of the best I can remember (might have to give that some thought), but to do it in such different ways in different games and with expectations (well mine at least) fairly low coming into the late season, then to get it so right when it matters ... just phenomenal.

Watched the replay this morning (without the blinkers of Super Bowl intensity on) and a few things stuck out.

  1. Wade Phillips and the Rams D played one heck of a game but the reality is, the Patriots left at least 2 TD and 2 FG scoring opportunities on the field.
  2. The Patriots controlled the line of scrimmage, love what they did with Donald which operated like clockwork, moving him from his point of attack.
  3. Pats obliterating play action with simple disguise. They showed Goff a pre-snap read then changed the look so when he came back around, what he initially saw was different. This suggests to me the Pats saw a guy reliant on McVay's playcall in and brought it up as a weakness.
  4. Flores and Belichick need to be bronzed for that game plan. The team played with aggression, speed and literally gave the Rams WRs no chance to separate. That all started by shutting down the run game.
  5. Our front seven, specifically the Defensive Line played the best game I've seen since the early dynasty years.
  6. Brady missed easy throws but when it mattered, he came through. Not his best game but he's been so good for so long it was nice to see the D pick him up.
  7. The Rams were never in this game. It should have been over by half time and as 13-3 scores at 3-3 in the fourth go, the Pats always looked like they were in control of the contest.
  8. Our high paid players all performed. Gilmore, Hightower, Gronk were immense.
  9. Kyle Van Noy looked like the second coming of Tedy Bruschi.
  10. As entertaining as high octane match ups are, I admit, a return to oldschool defensive football brought a tear to the eye. It "felt" like a Patriots win.

I enjoyed this SB win as much as any other.

Simply because I don't see us going to another SB with a TB/BB combo.

So being able to savour those moments in a game that after half time I never felt like we were going to lose was special.

The most disappointing thing of the day was that Gordon never made it to the final to experience it.

Great post. On that one point. I had a look at the first half myself in calmer conditions - and yeah, really could easily have been 10-13 pnts up at the half, if not more.

Having said that, I wonder if it kind of worked in our favour that Pats didn't skip away too early. Not that I could see Rams coming back from a few scores down, but the low scoring perhaps kept them a bit conservative. If Pats had have got a couple of scores away from them say early in the 3rd, McVay might have started trying really different things with a 'nothing to lose' mentality. They never really tried anything too dramatic or different - not that we gave them much of a chance either I suppose. With McVay not doing (or able to do) anything too out of the box, Pats always looked in control.

That was play of the game for mine. A little help from Goff who could have thrown it a touch earlier. Though it's not overly clear, McCourty could have come across fraction earlier too because nobody was even close to entering his zone.

But either way, he was sensational to vacate his zone when he realised what was going on and the closing speed - man that was impressive. From what I can see, looks like he bailed out his brother who should have picked up Cooks as he came through.

When it became apparent the Pats had throttled Gurley and Anderson, the game was effectively won.

This was as fine a defensive performance I've seen from the Pats in a long, long time.

Sure was. Talk about chalk and cheese - this time last year, we were bemoaning a non-existent defence that couldn't find a 3rd down stop to save its life. One year later, and the defence basically controlled the two most potent offences in the league two week's running in the biggest games of the year.

On the other side, took a quick look at the stats for the game - not something I do often. White was targeted 4 times (one of those was basically a throw away off memory), caught 1 for 5 yards on top 2 rushes for 4 yards. That's 3 touches for 9 yards - not too many would say White has those sorts of numbers and we still win. But that's BB for you, he just finds what works and works it.

The unsung hero of this thing is 100% Duron Harmon:
  • Replaced Pat Chung almost seamlessly
  • Along with Gilmore made the crucial PBU of Cooks in the endzone
  • Put the pressure on Goff on the zero blitz that led to Gilmore's INT (although this is mostly scheme he still got there)

Jason McCourty should get more acclaim. He made some big, big plays.
