I cannot remember having a B side KPF option of that quality before. Dixon has played as a defender when younger, but surely at Peel he plays forward?

Yes for mine.

Kersten (when fit) and Tobe Watson to go back. We could probably do with another KPD in the squad.

When Sandi goes presumably we’ll replace him with a KPD and we’ll run with the three specialist rucks plus Lobb?

Got lucky today, only had time for a short visit at training and manage to see the Practice match.
Also still excited about seeing Hogan train.
It was a hard hitting match, I'm hoping it was the gusty wind that made it congested footy.
Ross spent a lot time on the field directing traffic, including pulling the back 6 into a huddle mid game.

Billy played well and was very vocal at one stage about the average ball movement out of defence.

Found it interesting that Cox was in defence for the A team while Logue was playing for the yellow team. It was possible that they wanted Logue v Hogen and Tabs. Logue went ok and Cox played well, 4 or 5 contested/intercepted marks.

Wilson, Ryan, Langdon, Walters, Brayshaw and Duman were all good/busy.

Cam played as a high 1/2 forward, then moved a bit deeper when Lobb went into the ruck. some of his running and kicking was good.

While Dixon has a long way to go , he did have some impact.

Love Hamling, did some really hard work and seemed more vocal.

Lobb will make a big difference. A big call but if the couple sessions I have seen are anything to go by he will be in the top 5 in the F&b.

While Hogen looked short of a run he did do a few good things and it was cool just seeing him in a Freo jumper.

Bewley kicked a 50 metre goal and got a bit of the ball but also wasted his hard work with some messy usage under pressure . I'm hoping it was just one of those days or he was adjusting to the speed of the game.

Tabs looked good and should have an impact.

I really do think there is some chance that Taberner and McCarthy become serious weapons for us. They just aren't A grade #1 forward targets, and now, they don't have to be.

I think that Tabs is #1st grade. He was up against the best last year before injury and clunking marks against the best. McCarthy will also benefit greatly ( as will the group ) with his excellent disposal and footy brain. That was when he was at his best for GWS as the 3rd med/tall option.

Exciting times ahead!

Sorry to spoil the Cam lovefest going on here, but I reckon he will struggle to get in the top 22. He will be a relief player at best getting a look in if someone is injured, Bringing in Lobb and Hogan have put him well back in the pack.

If Cox plays back, then I can see a place for him. With Lobb and Hogan up forward and Cox back, I’d favour him over Tabs

Agree to differ on that, I think a fit Taberner is going to be hard to toss.

I See McCarthy differently. I would choose him over a Ballas and play him as a mid rather than small forward. He is the same height as midfielders these days anyway.
His delivery to Hogan/Lobb and Tabs is going to be great. Add a Bennell and Walters into the mix and you have a dynamite Forward Line.
It is just up to the kids to get it there!

I can't really split Taberner, McCarthy and Cox despite them having significant differences. 3 players, 1 vacancy. Fight it out boys.

Turning McCarthy into a midfielder is a pretty ambitious idea I reckon. A bit like turning Taberner into a forward/ruck. Very different skill sets from what they have been displaying, and for me, low probability of success. Both of those boys might drift into different areas of play than the forward line, as happens with every player these days, but beyond that, I am very skeptical.

The biggest area of improvement I would want from McCarthy is fitness and defensive pressure, getting him to play more like a medium/opportunistic forward. And if he actually develops those qualities, then I could be persuaded that he has midfield potential.

From Taberner I think he just needs to focus on becoming a genuine marking/goal kicking KPF.

Cox, just keep developing forward and defence.

After a week in Seminyak, watching the patriots win and generally chilling out I must admit that the emotion most common and thoughts most common were positive and hopeful!

Which as we all know is the most dangerous place to be as a Freo supporter! Still when I get over superstition and look at the list we must improve on last year. Hogan has his prime years ahead. Lobb in his prime and improvement from Pearce - Hamling - Wilson - Ryan - Hill’s - cerra - Bradshaw - tabs and more... the list looks as though it will be stronger than 2012-2015 which is saying something.

So it may be the chilled out, sunned out, Seminyak in me but... I can’t bloody wait!

Although it was an intraclub club in difficult conditions with key players not participtaing, the A team scored 4 goals in 10 minutes then 5 behind in 30. The B team scored 3.5 in 40 minutes. i.e. we struggle scoring and the game had a lot of congestion.

Based on this one intraclub he's come to the conclusion we'll have another sub 8 win season and same old game plan.

Please don't change, crumpet face.

Yes, he said the quick ball movement and high scoring that he saw in the drills the week before has now sadly been replaced with congested, low scoring, defensive, Ross Lyon type football.

So those expecting a better performance this year, or those considering becoming a member or even renewing their membership this year should not bother.

So there's that negative training report that some craved for.

In training sessions, is it likely that the club would practice a different game style depending on the conditions? That is, if it is windy and gusty, would they train for a more congested style? I would expect that in the unlikely event that it was belting down rain they wouldn't be practicing a high marking game style?

Yes I think you are correct here. Of course, reaching that conclusion involves a little afterthought and analysis. Much easier to say something on radio or write a column that backs up your existing beliefs and bias! for all he knows this was a simulation designed to work on how to bottle up an opposing team!
