This is good for the state footy.

“Auskick has been refreshed for 2019, including digital resources that will make sure kids have fun and feel part of the action,” AFL Queensland development and diversity state manager Mark Ensor said.

SUNS defender Jesse Joyce says Queensland footy talent is finally taking ownership of the state’s second club.

Gold Coast is a club planted by the AFL but the roots to the state have never been stronger.

Queenslanders now make up a quarter of Gold Coast’s list, with 12 of the current 46 players homegrown talent.

Hard not to like him
I think Dave Swallow deserves the opportunity to be Club captain but golly this bloke bleeds Red Gold and Blue and if he was Captain he'd be great
Either way, the new captain will be our first real one

How Tom Nicholls plans to reignite AFL career after two years off the biggest stage

“I have been doing a bit of vision with Andrew (Swallow) and hearing it from his perspective as a midfielder and what he used to see from his ruckman has given me a few tips and tricks that I has already helped at training.

Nicholls has also been working with forward coach Ash Prescott to improve his game in front of goal while he declared he was as fit as he had ever been after working under national-level distance runner Jacko Elliott’s Gold Coast Run Co squad with fellow Suns teammates.

A great interview with Jordan.

Where do you see yourself playing at the SUNS?

I’ve played the majority of my footy forward and on the wing, but always loved playing back. Since I met Dewy the first day, that’s where he envisioned me. I’ve been training with the backs for most of, or pretty much all of, the pre-season and I’ve been looking to use some competitive aspects of my game — like speed — in that role. But I also think that, with new kick-ins and especially with the ground being open at times, I have the potential to use my assets and break up the game and be an offensive weapon off half back.

He’s gonna kill it in the NEAFL this year.

Dew was glowing in his praise of three players that are setting the tone so far this pre-season: top-10 draftees Jack Lukosius, Ben King and Izak Rankine.
And he said he expected them all to feature sooner rather than later in 2019.
“In terms of coming in, I think there’s a real energy around the whole playing group and I think they’ve added to it,” Dew said.
“One pleasing thing is that sometimes draftees come in and they look like they’re a little bit far away.
“But I think all of the boys we’ve got in this year — not just those three — look like they’re really capable AFL footballers.
“We expect them to play at some point. When that is I’m not sure, but there’s a fair bit of class about them.”

I like Touk and he's obviously committed to the Club and for that reason would make a great leader
My concern really is whether or not in 3 years time he's in our best 22
Had coffee with an insider this morning who would love to see Wittsy get the gig- he's not a Touk fan but says Dew is, and I guess that's what matters

While he’s not the most talented or skilful player, he does the 1%ers all the time, tackles well and leads well. 1st qclash last year he won us the game with his smother and tagging beams. He could become a genuine first class tagged and inside mid

Yeah you look at someone like Brett Kirk who was a co-captain at the Swans. Was never the best player on the list, but his leadership qualities were what endeared him to the faithful.

I can see a co-captaincy of Witts and Miller, with Swallow serving as a vice to the both of them.

NOOOO!!!!
Can we please not have Co-Captains again.

I think there's a reason Touk got 3 years and Witts and Swallow got 5- and it's not because he wouldn't have wanted it
Dave will be in our first 22 until he retires
I can think of 5 guys who can do Touk's job as well if not better within 2 years- and one of them has a Dad who posts here

Brett Kirk was always best 22
I'm just saying you have to be a bit careful about giving the captaincy to a 22 yo honest toiler unless you want the ugly situation of dropping your captain in a couple of years time
If he was 28 he'd be my first choice no doubt

I wouldn't do it given the choice, but the players may feel differently, and Dewy in his interview seemed open to the idea.

I would honestly just give it to Swallow, but I know with his family commitments he may not want that much responsibility and media commitments that may take him away from them.

I understand that, but he was never the most talented or skillful player but oozed leadership. But I do take your point you don't want to drop your captain on form. Though Touk has been sneakily been averaging over 20 touches in his career, so he gets enough of the pill and can tag if required.

Will be interesting who the club end up going with.

I disagree. Most 22 year olds sign shorter contracts because they believe they'll be worth a lot more when they hit their peak around 25-27.

You guys are underrating Touk a bit, he makes an awesome pressure forward too.
